Boges Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 No. Why do you ask? Because that was a topic of discussion in the Toronto media yesterday. These people were allowed to do what they did because Ford doesn't have security people around him during public events. Quote

These people were allowed to do what they did because Ford doesn't have security people around him during public events. I don't see the problem with a little security. [Freud]I think Ford likes the spectacle though. Makes him feel important, makes up for all the attention he obviously never got from his father. [/Freud] Quote
Argus Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Not nut jobs, but reasonable people with their shirts off, yes. As BD said, Ford is a special case. Any other politician would have had the decency to resign long ago. It's time for people to lose patience and not just passively accept his behaviour. Ford is hardly the only politician where we've seen this type of shout down behaviour. I don't approve of it for anyone. If you don't want to hear what some jerk has to say then don't make a point of going out to his events. cybercoma Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 So do you think if, in the future, a security detail would keep the shirtless horde a little further than 5 feet away from Ford, that would be completely offside? Because other politicians usually ensure that.Have they threatened him with physical violence? Quote
jacee Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 These protesters should be sanctioned by the government. They are discriminating against females joining their protest. Are they not? No. Women can go topless too, and have ... in protest of sanctions against breastfeeding in public. But it might distract from the purpose of the protest in this case. . Quote
jacee Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 The point is the best candidate is in the lead and I hope it results in his election. Maybe Tory's low key approach is working. I hope so. Never has there been such a clear choice, a bafoon, a la la land socialist and a moderate. Gee its a hard choice. John Tory is moderate ...-ly flaky, imo. He has ideas ... many many ideas ... but not the patience or presence of mind to organize them thoughtfully, communicate them effectively, or implement them at all. But he has the suit look down pat. I think Olivia Chow is probably the most pragmatic and best manager of the bunch. But I don't vote there. . Quote
jacee Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Do you believe political discourse is aided by nut jobs standing by a politician trying to give a speech screaming Resign! repeatedly so no one can hear him? Anything that keeps RoFo from talking is an improvement. . Quote
guyser Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Have they threatened him with physical violence? The only violence came from RoFo's handler. He kicked a protester. And please, no topless ladies, RoFo might take his shirt off. His boobs are bigger anyhow. Or should I say moobs? Quote
jacee Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 (edited) I think he wants a venue where he can give his speech, accept no questions and not allow anyone to heckle or comment while he is talking. I do not know where he would find that kind of outlet and still get TV coverage.Stephen Harper manages to do only such 'closed' outlets. He just makes sure the room capacity is taken up with early arriving invitees, including invited media, so no 'random' members of the public can get in. eta ... update: you-have-to-invite-everbody-council-bans-selective-press-events-on-toronto-city-property Edited July 10, 2014 by jacee Quote
jacee Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Just read some of the reports from fellow "clients" and a counsellor at the clinic. Does not paint a pretty picture of RoFo. This does not appear to be a guy I would want tom share a beer with. http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2014/07/08/rob_ford_disruptive_in_rehab_sources_say.html So now it's clearer ... RoFo loaned his car to the woman so she could 'supply' him in rehab. . Quote
jacee Posted July 10, 2014 Report Posted July 10, 2014 And this is clearer too ... Mayor Rob Ford claimed he was not homophobic Wednesday, but refused to answer why he was the only person in city council not to participate in a standing ovation for city staff for their work on the World Pride Festival. Im not. You guys have asked me this question for 14 years and you know the answer. Im not homophobic. Im not homophobic, Ford told reporters after trying to slip past them and into an elevator. Ford was then asked, again, why he didnt stand in the chamber. Were your legs a little tired today? one reporter asked. Is your mouth a little tired, the mayor responded. It never stops. ... In an interview after returning from rehab, Ford blamed his use of alcohol for his homophobic comments. On Tuesday, he used a procedural measure to delay a council motion asking city staff to explore the possibility of creating dedicated shelter beds for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer/questioning and two-spirited youth. On Wednesday, Wong-Tam rose in council and asked him directly to release the motion, allowing a vote to go forward. He refused. http://ww2.nationalpost.com/m/wp/blog.html?b=news.nationalpost.com/2014/07/09/rob-ford-says-hes-not-homophobic-wont-answer-questions-on-his-refusal-to-congratulate-pride-workers Well, he's still himself! . Mayor Rob Ford claimed he was not homophobic Wednesday, but refused to answer why he was the only person in city council not to participate in a standing ovation for city staff for their work on the World Pride Festival. What was this standing ovation for? They organized pride events? Don't people do that every year? Was this enormously better than anyone else had ever done? Was it fantastically more impressive than anyone had thought they could possibly achieve? Or was it pretty much like last year and the year before? I suspect all those politicians jumping to their feet to applaud were doing so more of a desire to be seen as enthusiastic supporters of gaydom, ie, for their future political hopes, than any real desire to congratulate the organizers. Fords administration successfully pushed to appoint company owner Darius Mosun to the board of the city-owned Toronto Parking Authority in 2011. oops. . Ford's been on a tangent about Waterfront Torontono's "out of control spending" of late. Of course, he had a seat on the board of the organization between 2010 and 2012 and never attended a single meeting. When confronted with that little detail, he simply denied such a postion ever existed. Quote
Black Dog Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 Open Streets Toronto set to close roads For two Sunday mornings in August, pedestrians will rule some major roadways as the Open Streets pilot program promoting physical activity begins. On Aug. 17 and Aug. 31, about five-kilometres of Toronto’s downtown core will be closed to all vehicular traffic and will, instead, welcome pedestrians from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. ... Mayor Rob Ford has been a very vocal opponent to such closures for festivals and marathons over the years and said he would not support Open Streets TO because he saw no benefits to closing major roads to vehicular traffic. “People are going to get very upset when they find out the streets are closed just to walk on street we weren’t meant to walk on,” Ford said. “They’re made for cars and buses and bicycles.” One week ago: Mayor Rob Ford says drivers will just have to have “some patience” as they navigate the city amid a slew of road closures for the Honda Indy Toronto and several other major events this weekend. ... “It does cause congestion but you know what people are made aware of it and they just need to have more patience,” Ford said after taking a ride in a pace car at the Indy. “People like the festivals, we only have five months of the year to have these festivals and there is just no magic solution.” Quote
Boges Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 Open Streets Toronto set to close roads One week ago: Closing a small portion of the road for a race is different from closing that length of a major road. That being said it's on a Sunday morning. That's probably the one time of the week that there'll be very little traffic. Towns all over the place close down a small portion of their main streets for Farmer's Markets every week in the summer. Quote

cybercoma Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 I've had a change of heart about Ford. He's the only candidate interested in saving the taxpayers of Toronto any money whatsoever. He's a relatable working-class guy that's been victimized by the left-wing extremist media, particularly the Star. After saving Torontonians a billion dollars in his last term, he should be a shoe-in for the next election. Too bad so many voters are too stupid to see past The Star's lies and slander. Quote
