I'm OK with that.....I don't live in Japan. The USA is not trying to be like Japan or Canada. This is something some members here refuse to accept. More people come to gun toting America each year than to Japan or Canada, combined.

Gun homicide rates are at historic lows in the U.S.

Fine, you accept the price. Wonder if those parents in Newtown are thinking the same thing.

So now you want to ban MyFace and Twit too ?

Maybe we should just lock em up. Take my kids and lock em up if you think they might be a problem but don't you dare touch my guns.

Off hand I do not know. But I would expect them to be quite similar for the activity they are active in.

But the colour of the boys may be moot . They could quite easily be all canuck born and bred for all we know. There isnt much in the way of jamaican youths immigrating (yes with their parents)

Im not debating the whiteness of any of them. The ethnicity of them has to be determined through other means. What it did say was that in Ab Sa and Man, it was aboriginals, the original canuck I suppose.

I just wouldnt put it down to immigrants (not that you did per se but alluded too) as the problem, we had that convbersatyion a while back and CSC reported that immigrants werent the majority in jail.

I never suggested they were the majority. However, I did believe their numbers were far greater than their numbers in the general population. This proved to be incorrect, except in Ontario, and specifically with respect to Blacks. Native numbers in prison are also much higher than their numbers in the population. In both cases the reasons are the instability of the communities and the poverty and cultural factors involved.

In this particular case, though, we're talking about criminal use of firearms. I think most of us agree that's due to drugs and street gangs, and most street gangs are ethincs/immigrants/natives.

Now it’s been reported that the School Principle, on hearing the gunman start shooting through the locked security door, heroically ran off to confront him……….unarmed…………If she, or a member of the staff, had of been legally entitled to carry the days events might have been minimized………

The more guns in the hands of amateurs the more shootings there will be. There is simply no answer to this and you guys haven't even tried to make one.

Lock who up ? My "guns" are legally owned and stored. I don't care what you do with guns in Canada, so why do you want to ban guns in my country ?

I don't want to ban guns in you country. I don't post my opinions on this subject on any US forums I belong to. I just don't understand your cold blooded, cavalier attitude to the carnage they inflict on your country.

There are about 132,000 schools in the US. So you would need 132,000 cops, plus extras so some could be off sick, on holidays, etc. So you'd need about 160,000 say.

By comparison there are about 13,000 FBI agents.

Why not....is it different to post such things in US Politics on MLW? There is lots of carnage in my country...and yours, but I don't pretend to tell Canada what to do about it. Let's see, based on recent trends in Canada, knives might need to be banned.....so many decapitations per capita.

For me, it is and I think it is for you also. As you say, you don't pretend to tell Canada what to do about it. I'm not telling America what to do about it, I'm responding to an American on a Canadian forum.

Yes, knife = assault rifle. We've already heard that one.

I don't change my stripes when posting on US forums. There is no difference for me.

So you can't ignore U.S. policies, while most Americans can ignore what happens in Canada ? Let me guess...."what happens in the U.S. will creep across the border to Canada so we have to care".

Hey, StasCan says that assaults with knives is up in Canada from 2011, while gun homicides are down. You guys have a serious knife problem ! rolleyes.gif

We all love how you ignore us. Your solution to our "knife problem" would of course be, more guns.

In my city, stabbings are far more common than shootings. Gangs have made guns rather common place, though. When I hear a pop or a bang, it is usually some idiot shooting a weapon...or it's the ubiquitous bear-banger...also a common piece of gear around here.

Gun fire is common in urban areas and interestingly, rural areas. Some people just can't afford to go to a proper gun range ! It got so bad in one area, Honeywell designed and built a gun shot locator based on sonic timings. It's still used today in several cities.

Knives are pretty quite in comparison, but not chain saws !!biggrin.png

We have some great ranges around here...many of them thanks to the efforts of this group.
