There will ALWAYS be the lazy left who expect to be coddled and baby-sat by the federal government. Some people simply just refuse to work. Thankfully, there have been changes to the employment insurance that will curtail the lazy ones back to work sooner.

The rush to strengthen our economy via our resources is simply anoher plus.

no there is an intellectual arrogance that rewards higher pay to someone tapping away at a keyboard more money than someone who does physically demanding work...you have to be insane to work for minimum wages in the agricultural industry when you can make more as a food server with far better working conditions or an equivalent amount working in retail...hmmm let's see now, work for minimum in retail at walmart or work a farm for minimum in the blazing heat or freezing cold while swatting mosquitoes and blackflys. ya that's a real difficult decision to make...

the days when you worked farms are decades past, work options were few and horrendous working conditions were the norm but canadians have more options and way smarter now, if you want them to do crappy jobs you better be ready to pay them the true value for their labours...of course that will mean higher food costs and then you'll be whining about the good old days when food was cheaper...

Farms don't pay minimum wage anymore, wages have to increase to compete with the oilfields and potash mines.

If those unemployed Canadians are so smart, why are they unemployed and protesting. Simple logic states that some money is better than no money, and that might mean those entitled occupy type protestors might have to get their hands dirty. For all the education they have and how smart they think they are, they really lack in thinking and decision making skills.

really...go visit the orchards in BC and ask the migrant Mexicans how much they're being paid,... it's piece rate or minimum wage...and as tree planting(piece rate) still seems to a popular(and back breaking) summer job with canadian students I can only assume fruit picking(easier) is not a well paid job...

Since this is about China, I was wondering if any of you watch C-PAC Monday night and Elizabeth May was on and she was concerned about the Trade contract the Tories are making with China. Apparently, with the NAFTA, we have a 6 months out clause but with China, the Tories are agreeing to 1 year notice of cancelling then it will take 15 YEARS to get out of it. She also said the all three level of government could be sued by China if THEY thought they were being singled out. China is now suing the government of Belgian. May doesn't know what the Tories were thinking but she said it goes against Canadian democracy. Anyone know about this?

People do not pay attention to what she says. That is why she losing so much support.

I tend to believe that much of what is said about this is overstated and hyped. Will have to write my MP to verify that.

My understanding is that both Canada and China have the right to regulate in the public interest and that Chinese investors in Canada must obey the laws and regulations of Canada just as any Canadian investor must.

At the same time, Chinese investment in Canada will continue to be subject to the Investment Canada Act, but decisions by Canada under the Investment Canada Act are excluded from challenge under the provisions of the FIPA.

According to the gov't, it's about ensuring greater protection against discriminatory and arbitrary practices and will allow Canadians to invest in China with greater confidence and protection.

The intent is to remove Chinese trade barriers and increase exports such as lumber, grains, beef and other Canadian products.

China is now suing the government of Belgian.
This got my attention, Here is the case: http://www.wunscharb.com/news/chinese-insurer-files-first-investment-treaty-claim-icsid

This appears to be the problem:

It is reported that a special fund was established by the Belgium government to indemnify the shareholders’ losses. However, only institutional shareholders in the European Union are covered by the fund.
The Belgium government appears to have bailed out EU shareholders but left non-EU shareholders to suck up the losses. The real problem in this case is a government bailing out shareholders of failed banks. If they had not done that China would have no case.

And go and read the classified section of the western producer and key in on the help wanted section.

A report out today, says that there are Canadians that CAN do those jobs but the company id not hiring them. One of those Canadian workers had 30 years experience and this just shows how the company is hiring and I would hope the that government will do something about this, since the Human Resource Minister stands up everyday and says they are for jobs for Canadians and rather have them working than not. http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/rejected-miner-had-30-years-experience-unions-reviewing-004317314.html;_ylt=AqGTkOpJX8DFMt3Ug0wAm44iTZtG;_ylu=X3oDMTRmZjdiaGUzBGNjb2RlA2N0LmMEbWl0A21vc3Rwb3B1bGFyIGhlYWRsaW5lcwRwa2cDNjA3MzU0NTEtMzMzYi0zZTVjLWI1ODctMGMwZjlkNDljNjRmBHBvcwM0BHNlYwN0b3Bfc3RvcnlfY29rZQR2ZXIDMGU1Y2IyODAtNmVkZC0xMWUyLWFjYTctYzE1NWJhYjY2ODkx;_ylg=X3oDMTNhNjV1dmdiBGludGwDY2EEbGFuZwNlbi1jYQRwc3RhaWQDNDdhODQzMzEtZmNlNy0zZWIxLTkzNjQtZTFlMWUyZTViMjY0BHBzdGNhdANwZXJzb25hbGZpbmFuY2V8Y2FyZWVycwRwdANzdG9yeXBhZ2U-;_ylv=3

Bit of a red herring. The company has had at least 5 years lead time for this project. There is a school in Pennsylvania that teaches long wall mining. It would have been no problem to train Canadians for this job. Blame the Federal and Provincial governments who allow this sort of thing to happen, while blabbing on about the great job opportunities they are creating for Canadians.

Don't worry these jobs get counted as "jobs created" for the government event if not one Canadians will benefit from them.
