rizy Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 Guys you have to give more credit to Apple with all their faults, take away Apple and substitute it with Microsoft and we would be at the end of DOS age, most likely switching to to a user friendly operating system by now. Thanks to Apple we are progressing, thanks to Apple, Samsung to actually good now. You have to realize Sony had a device similar to mp3 player back in the late 90's yet they have chosen not to do anything with it, and when Apple had similar device they had the guts to try it first for the masses, the same with the smartphone, ipad and there is gonna be more coming. Apple is not perfect, they are in the business of making money, but at least they are brave in the technology world. Quote

Apple is not perfect, they are in the business of making money, but at least they are brave in the technology world. I've been a windows user for about 16 years now and there have been two failures with OSs with Microsoft. Millenium and Vista were both failures in many aspects. Both were radically different than previous OSs and had compatibility issues and just plain issues period. However, Microsoft does take into account a lot of other hardware out there that you would connect to your PC. When dealing with Apple, you are limited in the type of peripherals you can use with a MAC OS. Apple might have been the first to mass market MP3 players but with every new version of iTunes you are seeing more and more restrictions on what you can do with the media you purchase through something like iTunes. The iPad is a nice device, but so restricted in what you can actually do with the device unless you purchase an app. We saw the crap with iPads not supporting Adobe Flash at first, but then got supported, but still to view something like Youtube, you need the app instead of just going through your browser like every other device out there. However, Microsoft is now going the Apple route in terms of locking down their systems that you will end up having less and less control over your own devices. With Windows 8, 3rd party applications like Valve's Steam gaming application may not work. With the online store you are forced to participate in and have all transactions and programs go through that method (like an app store) you are not going to be able to use Steam. Main reason why Valve is making the push to support UNIX type operating systems because of the less restrictions. It's also a direct threat to Windows Live gaming/friends system. Steam is also the front runner in digital distribution for video games where it has allowed it's software game competitors and even independent developers to have their games distributed on a mass scale with little investment from the indie studio. But this is all part of the new cloud systems that we are being forced to participate in. Some cloud applications work great like Steam where they actually concerned about security and privacy. But with cloud systems, you will end up having less and less control over your own information. Since nothing is held on your PC anymore, it ends up to be a simple dummy terminal which just allows you to connect to the cloud where all your information is. Quote

Microsoft does a decent job with it's XBL system for distributing indie console games. I don't play games on my PC so I can't comment on Steam. An App Store or Google Play system for Xbox or PC gaming would be great. I hate buying stuff on XBL because it has pre-set denominations for purchases. Things might cost 800 points but you can only buy points in of 700 or 1400 point increments. It's pure BS! The reason I didn't go the Windows Phone route is because it looks way to simple and the ability to customize looks very limited. I just downloaded a new launcher on my Android phone and mixed things up on how my apps/widgets are laid out. Things you really can't do on iOS Windows Phone. Edited September 20, 2012 by Boges Quote

Fletch 27 Posted October 12, 2012 Report Posted October 12, 2012 Apple has missed the mark all together with the Iphone 5. First off, the agreement with Foxconn for Manufacture and sub-assembly has crashed. The labour revolted 3 weeks ago and 2000 of the employees rioted. For months prior, poor quality and rework items have made it to the shelves. Thousands of them. Apple muscled JDI to manufacture the thinnest display possible and adopted in-cell touch (There is no touch panel on the iphone5, Its array and cell structure in the RGB cells IS the touch medium. with thye display at 1.3mms, Please dont drop your new iPhone5,, or place it on the table to hard. DisplaySearch predicts that the idead screen size for consumers will be 4.7 inches... The Iphone5 missed the mark. To add, JDI (Japan display Incorporated, a merger between TMD, Hitachi and Sony), The company that designs and develops the display tried to encourage apple to increase the size but it did not get accepted. Also on the Diaplay, An innitial 3Million units have made it to consumers with "Light leakage" and really results in an odd looking phone in low-light conditions.. The embedded Memory (eMMC) is based on a suido Jedec spec or a "quasi" Jedec spec 4.41. There are MAJOR compatibility issues with a number of apps developers and the eMMC has created a back-door for hackers and actually raher simple "viruses".. Not in the news as of yet.. give it a few weeks.. In efforts to entertain iPhone 4s users to the iPhone 5 (docking cable missmatch for any past iphone accessories), AT&T and i think it was cingular, offered a 250 dollar "bring us your iphone4s for a 5" promo.. Apple would back-end the Carriers as they predicted that the new cable (to sell at about 20 dollars and was patented and encrypted with an Analog Devices encrypto chip) would sell about 70 million units at a materials and package cost of 4.00 (16 dollars profit). Well, the Analog Devices chip was cracked last month and you can now but a NON-Appler docking cable from another company. THIS hurts Apples revenur projections MASSIVELY! To add, the voice-coil (VCM) within the Semco manufactured module has too varied coefficients of expansion in the materials between the VCM and Barrel.. The Camera freezes while focussing in temperatures under 10 degres and above 30... I have an iPhone5 and tred to take a picture this morning of my dog on our walk.... Yup, my camera teature was non-existant... Piece of crap.. The phone to get? The Blackberry Londor or "L series".. or the follow-on "N" series... IT will revolutionize the Smart-Phone... Lots of nay-sayers but the unit i have (pre-Release) is SPECTACULAR! There is a video of it on Youtube but in Spanish.. Its the real deal and not the Dev-Alpha shown in the media. Have looky : Quote

Boges Posted October 23, 2012 Report Posted October 23, 2012 Today Apple released the iPad Mini. I wonder how many iSheep think the iPad mini is the pinnacle of innovation and will need one the minute it comes out even though they already have a traditional iPad and an iPhone. The thing starts at over $300 and the Google Nexus 7 goes for $200. I can only see iSheep wanting to buy this thing. This iPad mini doesn't even have the latest processor or a Retina display (whatever that is) Quote

Boges Posted December 14, 2012 Report Posted December 14, 2012 (edited) If that was true then why was the return of the Google Maps app news yesterday? http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001_3-57559166-92/google-maps-rides-to-ios-users-rescue-week-in-review/ Banished from Apple's iOS earlier this fall, Google Maps returned to the mobile platform in the form of a standalone app. The official Google Maps app returned to Apple's App store Thursday evening with turn-by-turn navigation, as well as public transit directions, integrated Street View, and a 3D-like Google Earth view. Google Maps didn't take long to capture the top spot among free iPhone apps. The release came a few days after Apple again became the subject of ridicule when police in Australia issued a warning discouraging iPhone users from relying on Apple's map app after rescuing several people who became stranded in recent weeks in the wilderness following the app's directions. msj Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 If that was true then why was the return of the Google Maps app news yesterday? There is this thing on the iPhone called "Safari" which is a web browser and you can go to googlemaps and then press a button called "add to homescreen" so that whenever those Apple maps were not working you could go to the Google quickly and easily. Apple had no choice but to cut the cord since the Google was not allowing for turn by turn directions anyway. Yeah, they probably should have waited another year but so what? Follow the instructions above. Anyway, in Honolulu I tried Apple's maps and they worked just fine. Got to the ranch for the horse ride on time, got to the Buddhist Temple, found the outlet malls for the wife (damn you Apple!!!!). BFD.
