One year since Jack's death

One year later? We still do not know what finally took him and Olivia Chow and Mulcair need to show openness and accountability to the last 2 months of his life. Im just saying... with him busted in a rub-n-tug and a few shady moments (live by the sword,, die by the sword"??) , and his appearnace in the last interviews, would "Aids" be far fetched??? We need an NDP party that will show clarity and accountability to the promisses made and hopefully not what was a desperate grasp for power of a dying man. At the moment, that is his legacy..

Yesterdays "display" was a podium for Olivia Chow and Mulcair.. Mulcair has been NO EXISTANT in the media for half a year and now pounces on a tear-jerker... That is the NDP's legacy! The John Lennon song plaid in the backgroud?? WTF really? The legacy of the NDP and Jack? "Smoke and mirrors"... Nothing has been accomplished...

I my heart goes out to the family.. but the public display is really making my respect slide...

Any death is a tragedy, except perhaps the death of disco! There was much to respect of Jack Layton and it is understandable that so many mourn his passing.

However, with this issue I truly believe that the NDP are being hypocrites. Personally, I would respect their desire to keep secret anything Jack's family wants about anything to do with his death and its cause or causes but the Left has lost the right to do such a thing long ago.

You see, the Left has shown no such respect for privacy with its political rivals for generations, if ever! If it had been a Tory or even Liberal in such a position they would have been howling like wolves for "transparency" and "the public's right to know" and "what are they hiding?".

Hell, look how they treat Rob Ford, the mayor of Toronto, for not being available for the Gay Pride Parade? Or virtually any aspect of that man's life, for that matter. The Toronto Star has become Mayor Ford's "Spanish Inquisition",

So the Left has set the precedent. As far as I am concerned, what's sauce for the goose...

There simply is NO transparency with the NDP... If that were to change,, may open my ears to what they have to say... Till there is transparency, im not listening..

yes, MLW members have seen your hate-on for Layton many times over. Perhaps if you came out from under your rock more often, you'd realize that Mulcair has been very visible.

respect for the family? BS, absolute BS!

transparency? Because the actual type of cancer hasn't been stated? Hey genius, in all your petulant posturing and wild-assed hate filled speculation about AIDS, did you know that the cancers most associated with AIDS also occur within the general population not afflicted with AIDS?... did you know that most AIDS sufferers inflicted with cancer don't actually die from the cancer itself?

nice, beauty... I note your proclaimed respect, 'for the family desire'... while you quite easily blend and package together your respect, the family and the party.

I did not "Hate" Jack Layton.. I hated his politics and his style...

Without the facts... All Canadians can do is speculate.. Transparency eliminates that. Pretty simple..

If he is to go down in the history books like all of our other leaders, the looming question-mark will be the legacy...

Waldo, I stand by my words! I have always liked Jack as a person. Anyone who plays guitar can't be all bad! Still, his supporters have long shown a double standard. They would never have accepted keeping the details of the death of anyone among their political rivals a secret from the public.

I just think they have no right to demand of others a respect they never show themselves!

The NDP and its supporters are people just like the rest of us, not some self-appointed elite who think they have a monopoly on morality.

They just don't want to disclose anything because Saint Jack might not approve. The pope commented--- "Jack was a hell of a guy--- we even did the rub joints together" All investigative work of course.

On the more nauseous side of things--- Just couldn't escape seeing parts of the 1 year memorial on TV--- his widow making all sorts of claims-- better health, free education, more roads, hospitals, services etc but she didn't mention the other side of it--- with that comes Rae's NDP legacy --- more deficits.

It is to gag--- a political party making hay with the deceased, with the blessings of the dead pol's family.

Tilter, you shouldn't be too hard on them! The Left are heart people, not head people, as a rule.

I have seen the face of the Left - and it is Oprah! :P

Why exactly do you feel the party needs to say what happened to him? I find it odd not to say but it's nobodies business.

uhhh... and here I thought Layton died of cancer.

Didn't you know that new information has revealed there are multiple kinds of cancer? You can have prostate, breast, lung, skin, throat and the list goes on and on.

the list goes on!... of the blood... of the cells... Clearly, cancer... of the body... doesn't cut it for you - oh wait, sorry... you did say, "it's nobodies business".

Wow PIK....just wow.

No WOW to it at all. I am tired of the BS that gets printed by the media and on boards about harper and the cons. So it is one of those "be carefull what you wish for" moments. They started it and I am all for equal rights ,so it is coming back. Maybe it was aids and maybe jack and the wife had a swingers life style. Who cares if they did, but lets be upfront about it. Canadians want to know.

Are Canadians demanding to know what the second type of cancer Layton had?

Of course this is in the correct forum, Politics...The NDP is using Layton still. There are those that would deify him or call for his beautification when after all, he was simply another politician.

He changed the parties direction. He modified the policies to avoid the word 'socialist' so as to appeal to the middle of the road socialists. He certainly went in the right direction pricisely at the right time. A good political move by an astute politician, not by a strictly beneficent apolitical mensch.

A politician with an agenda. No more no less.

Had the Liberals not been imploding and Quebec not been in a mess politically, The Orange Crush would have been lemonade.

The NDP is presently at it's zenith, but in a couple of years...blooooie!

As for Jack, how many times will they drag his body out for political gain?

It gets just a bit macabre don't it y'all.

You brought it up. So can you address the rumour Harper and his wife are separated? The media wont talk about but I am sure someone like yourself would want to know believing personal lives are in bounds.

I am surprised she has accepted what truly must be a most difficult task - putting up a daily false family front for the sake of the CPC party.

(waldo caveat: assuming the rumours are true... I just wish Harper and the CPC would put this to rest, once and for all)

ya punked... any update on Baird stating his sexual preference... I'm not sure why he's so hesitant to officially come out - I thought we lived in more enlightened times!

And my understanding it was just a lefty shot at the harpers. But lets get something straight here if there was any evidence of them 2 being split it would be all over the news, everyday, all week long for a month. Speaking of harper it seems now he is in trouble for a photo op on a ATV in the yukon. It seems alot of people drive bikes in this area, but when harper jumps on one for 10 minutes , he is all over the news for destroying plant life. Sorry people ,but you will have to live with what you started.
