Given all of the allegations and problems with the electoral process that has been going around, I'm curious to see if politically engaged people, like those on this forum, still trust the electoral process.

Canada's electoral process is still one of the best in the world.. maybe top 10-15. I would like to see an end to robocalls and more social media being used. I say get rid of election expense limits since they aren't followed anyway and they are given a light tap on the wrist when caught. Other than that sure I trust Canada's electoral process. What I don't trust are Canadians. Apathetic, cowards who do not vote.

Unfortunately, C-38 Budget Bill is taking money away from Election Canada and not sure yet if they will be able to do their job but then again, perhaps that what the Alliance/Tories want.

Elections Canada is a waste of money anyway. Takes them years to investigate and then the only punishment are small fines. Why do we need them?

Soooo, by your rational, too make it 100% FLAWLESS... Should we incect 1 or 2 Billion dollars into them... Or do you "Maybe" think that there could quite possibly be some waste there??? Hmmmm

Yes, More money for them it is!!!!!!!!!!

Can you please post the link you found on where the Elections Canada Cuts are? I cant find them..

And, I find it interesting that Mark Kelly and that "connect" show is still on. It was supposed to be last aired on June 1st? Hmm, Maybe the CBC found some waste and can now allow him to proceed?? Interesting indeed how much waste a company can find when the purse strings get shaved....

Thanks

I'd say the biggest risk to Canadian elections (and government) is becoming more like the American system with two camps just cursing and spitting on each other day in and day out.

It might be just me, but I've recently seen a small but growing movement that is becoming more radical in their approach to politics. Examples include calling Stephen Harper a fascist/Nazi, referring to Canada as a totalitarian regime, etc. I just hope it doesn't spread as I don't want to see ridiculous election campaigns as in the USA.

As long as the first-past-the -post system is being used with single-memeber constituencies, or ridings as you call them, the system is open to manipulation and corruption. Do the people in Canada trust the commission and its impartiality when the boundaries of those ridings are drawn and are they redrawn often enough to correspond the changes in population?

I don't.

But more because of corporate lobbyists/wealthy elite who fund bogus news articles and studies to suggestively slander anything that isn't pro-corporation and anti anything beneficial to regular people.

People vote with those lies in mind.

I just want a government that actually governs for the people... regardless of ideology.

Ideology does not make good policy. Good policy comes from an analysis of options, comparison of options and selection of one option that works best in the current situation. This option is often a compromise between ideologies.

Getting rid of expense limits is a REALLY bad idea. We shoudl enforce them more vigorously, and stop special interests from donating completely.

I question things because I am human. And call no one my father who's no closer than a stranger

Yes and no, I know a lot of people that always vote Conservative, that always vote Liberal, or always vote NDP (with a couple who have gotten into the habit of voting Green because they don't want anyone else to get their vote). It doesn't matter what the media runs, these people are stuck in stone (like the lifetime Republicans vs Democrats but no were near as severe).

Another hilarious comment.

Typical.

I think it's funny (sad...) how our little poll is shaping up, anyone noticing a pattern?

I think it was fairly predictable.

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

What I find interesting is how it stacks up to the exact same question asked in an online poll recently.

I think it just proves that this board is full of propaganda mouthpieces...
