overthere Posted April 14, 2016 Report Posted April 14, 2016 He came on at the end of last season. It's also partly because of where he is in the lineup, being 9th he's sort of protected by the bats coming up behind him, he'll always get pitches to hit, no one wants to walk him with the big boys coming up. He is a far tougher out now than before, when he was nearly automatic. If he keeps hitting the ball hard, they'll start having to finesse him. If he really has improved at the plate, that means a higher OBP and sets the table for the start of the lineup. Bad news for opponents. But does not address their weakness, pitching. When is Travis back? I think at this point he has lost his job. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

Travis' comeback is still uncertain, but yeah he's not stealing the job from Go-Go. In fact Barney has been decent as well. Their bullpen has been their weakness, Sanchez got two no decisions off of Cecil meltdowns, Happ got a win last night but his first start was lost to another bullpen meltdown. Dickey is Dickey, he's been better than last April. Estrada picked up right where he left off last October. I'm curious to see how Stroman rebounds, tonight, after a below par home opener. Boges Posted April 15, 2016 Report Posted April 15, 2016 Sans a .500 start, the Jays starting pitching has looked very good. The offence may be waking up, but I'm worried about Collabello's place on this team, if he can't hit, he's useless. I'll take Smoak as a Lefty if neither are going to hit well. Quote
overthere Posted April 15, 2016 Report Posted April 15, 2016 Both Colabello and Smoak have been crap at the plate so far. Given that EE is in the lineup every nigh as DH or 1B, and Smoak is easily the best fielder at 1B..... the Jays should send Colabello to Buffalo to get 4 or more at bats every game. If his game returns, he can step back into the platoon role with Smoak. He is not going to get better with spot duty and occasional at bats in the bigs. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted April 15, 2016 Report Posted April 15, 2016 Is it possible that JoDo is better than he was last year? We could be watching the best player in Blue Jays history. Quote

I'd have to look to see if Bell, Fernandez, Delgado, and Joey rate higher. Quote

Lots of time to prove it either way. Quote
overthere Posted April 17, 2016 Report Posted April 17, 2016 My vote would go to Alomar. He was an extraordinary player at every part of the game, for a long time. Is it only me that wonders when the Jays will wake up? Or if they will? There are some major holes in their game right now. 3-7 in their last ten games. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 Let's just hope it's because Boston has their number or something. They have until August to flounder around .500 until they have to start winning. Aaron Sanchez is AMAZING!!!! Saunders moves up to leadoff. Pillar immediately starts hitting. Quote
Boges Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 Pillar goes 3 for 3 again today. Happ goes 8 innings. Back to .500. If they can start scoring at the clip they did last year, they'll be unstoppable. Quote

Boges Posted April 20, 2016 Report Posted April 20, 2016 It was AA's worst move . . . in hindsight. Dickey has eaten innings like no other Jay since being here and history would indicate that he gets better as the season goes on. Quote
Guest Posted April 21, 2016 Report Posted April 21, 2016 He's been a lot like a Mark Buhrle in that regard; mediocre but chews up innings. He's a weird dude, so at least he's an interesting interview. Quote
Boges Posted April 22, 2016 Report Posted April 22, 2016 No one would have guessed that the Jays #1 problem would have been their inability to generate offence. The starting pitching has been great, the bullpen has been aight, Osuna has been amazing. But outside the 2, 3, 4 hitters, I don't then there's any confidence in the ability for this lineup to deliver a clutch hit. Quote
Guest Posted April 22, 2016 Report Posted April 22, 2016 (edited) Performance enhancing drugs haven't been helping Colabello's physique or performance at the plate. Now he'll have half a season to work on his skills. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/toronto-blue-jays-chris-colabello/ Edited April 22, 2016 by Guest Quote
overthere Posted April 22, 2016 Report Posted April 22, 2016 Well that solves the dilemma at first base. Saunders has been a pleasant surprise. Pillar has reverted to his form of a few years ago, swinging wildly at most pitches. Here is hoping somebody in the bottom half of the order(Russ Martin!) can find their groove at the plate. Boges Posted April 23, 2016 Report Posted April 23, 2016 Actually it makes perfect sense that he was on roids. He was a journeyman minor leaguer and suddenly he's hitting .300+ in the majors. Quote

Boges Posted April 25, 2016 Report Posted April 25, 2016 Started hitting this weekend. And against a team that's had good pitching so far this season. Still just a .500 team though. I'm happy that Hutch came up and pitched a quality game. If Dickey doesn't come around, perhaps he can step in. Kind of disappointed that Sanchez got beat up a bit on Friday. But that'll happen to even the best pitcher. Look at how David Price is doing. I think the Jays should keep Ezekiel Carrera in the lineup for awhile. As long as he can keep hitting. He seems to be the perfect leadoff man for the team. Quote
Boges Posted May 2, 2016 Report Posted May 2, 2016 I guess it could be worse for the Jays. Mediocre to below average April, but start May with a win in Tampa which is somethings that's always been tough for them. This team could easily have won 5 more games had Brett Cecil not been awful. He's gotta start performing. Storen ain't much better. Stroman, Sanchez and Happ are all pitching very well . . . mostly. Quote
Guest Posted May 2, 2016 Report Posted May 2, 2016 Carrera has been good at the top of the order, but I would like to see him be a little more selective and patient at the plate. He has some speed and a good avg, now we just need him to make pitchers work a little harder and up that OBP. Quote
