From the "status box discussion" about these things.

I think that Canada would work best as 4 countries, with all 4 western provinces as a single country.

The_Squid says BC would never join such a country.

Argus says that Ontario and Quebec should be split into 3 or 4 provinces each

I agree somewhat.

Here is my plan for Ontario:

And I'd be willing to settle for this:

And this would be the Province of Vancouver Island, Regions by Population:

I think at the very least, Northern Ontario would benefit by seceding from Southwestern Ontario. By having their own government, Northern Ontario would be better able to deal with its particular issues, since it seems like Queen's Park isn't the least bit interested.

Where do you draw the border? South of Parry Sound? South of North Bay? South of Timmins?

About French River.

The share of fortune that filters to the north gets smaller each year.

I don't want no freekin breakup until Ontario get out of its financial mess. I'm entitled to my entitlements and if Ontario goes it alone I might lose some cash.

If Ontario was it's own country, it would be in surplus this year.

If Toronto was it's own country, we could reduce sales taxes to 0, and, still be in surplus, this year.

That's how much we contribute to Canada in corporate and income taxes. In return they insult us.

"-leafs" takes out all search results with that word in it.

I purposely disincluded it because even I think the leafs suck, and I don't even follow sports.

oh... right. Sorry, I immediately associated Leafs and Toronto Sucks. In any case, let's try again... dissing your fav city is enough to break up the country!

It goes beyond "dissing"

People honestly think that Toronto somehow gets billions upon billions from confederation when the opposite is in fact true.

I say that Toronto, and/or Ontario should separate, just for a year, to show people the reality of the numbers.

Actually the leafs are one of the most successful sports teams in history!

They have made billions of dollars!

Its funny how die hard capitalists become communists in a freekin blink of the eye when it comes to sports!

.... Here's Q&A's of what could be for North America and like it or not it includes ALL of NA not just changes within Canada.

Not going to happen....just a bunch of Canadians trying another way to bitch and moan about your government, regionalism, and paranoia. Canada is for Canadians.

I guess these conversations about the break-up of Canada must be very popular in your country especially when most people realize it will never happen in real life but toying with the idea and drawing imaginary borders must be fun.

"Toying" being the key word here.

I disagree about that completely---- Toronto no longer has Miller, the mayor that taxed the townspeople on everything from real estate fees to Car Registrations and if, even after all that extra money from that will be operating at a deficit.

Toronto is actually a huge tax sinkhole---- no matter how much the people are taxed it will never be enuf.

All those tall bank towers pay corporate taxes. Their workers pay income taxes. Ontario and especially Canada (which charges higher rates than Ontario) benefit from this.

The City of Toronto levies no income or corporate taxes.

You shouldn't.

Toronto is actually a huge tax sinkhole----

If by sinkhole you mean cash cow....then all good.

Ontario, sends $80+B to Ottawa, gets back $59B .

You're welcomne Canada !

As long as My Canada doesnt include Toronto, Im good with ANY re-structuring plan. Toronto is the thorn in Ontario's side and keeps the "same old, same old" in power provincialy. Get Rid of that armpit and lets move on!

no, not really... usually it's just a small dedicated, 'fringe of the fringe' element that's always hot to talk about western alienation/perceived disparate taxation/"unfair" equalization payments/perceived Quebec favouritism/blah, blah, blah. On the other hand, occasionally, an unthinking neophyte will start up a nonsense thread like this one.

When you pay the bills, you call the shots.

Assuming you live in Ontario, you really want to live where there isn't any money? (If TO left)
