Moonlight Graham Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 (edited) Fair enough. However, I doubt you have spent much time with an iPad while travelling. I haven't. Balls to iPads. dre Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Anything beyond that, and it may as well be a laptop in my opinion. The 6-10 inch screen size range just does not seem useful. Thats what I always thought as well. But someone bought me an Android Tablet for christmas... Its a $200 dollar Chinese jobby. I like it and use it quite a bit. I use it for reading books and manuals, and its pretty damn nice for viewing any kind of media. It will run for about 7 or 8 hours on a charge and it makes no noise, and generates no heat. I guess if I bought a small laptop I could get the same kinda thing out of it... My laptop is to big and the fans and disks are too damn noisy. Quote I question things because I am human. Neither are really good for productivity, but that isn't the point of these devices. Netbooks/Mini laptops just aren't as comfortable to use. There will always be a place for a computer workstation but, it could be simply hooking up your tablet to a larger monitor, mouse and keyboard at a desk. Michael Hardner Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 PC Magazine (maybe they should rename this magazine ?) The iPad Wins Because Android Tablet Apps Suck: An Illustrated Guide I just gave the new iPad an Editors' Choice award for large tablets, but frankly it was a foregone conclusion. The iPad doesn't get the award because of its hardware, lovely as the hardware is. It gets the award because its apps are generally better than the apps available for Android tablets. Just adding fuel to the fire here... Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner
MiddleClassCentrist Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 (edited) PC Magazine (maybe they should rename this magazine ?) Just adding fuel to the fire here... Most apps are garbage in general. You don't need access to 1000 apps when 1 will do. The argument made there was purely based on quantity and subjective aesthetics, inspite of the author claiming that it was about quality. But I'd assert that for categories other than games, Android tablets' problem isn't app availability but app quality. with only one app from ABC compared to the iPad's 12 and nine from Disney compared to the iPad's 32 402 games to 176. Now, a lot of that seems to be Big Fish spewing 166 games into the iTunes store. 166 games! But even with that outlier out of the way, the iPad still wins 236-162. The sheer number of apps can be attributed solely to the first mover advantage. Way too many Android apps fall back on a design that looks like a late-20th-century WAP site: a stack of modules designed to look good on narrow screens. Unfortunately, that design is completely inappropriate for a tablet. Quality of apps was measured purely on the space usage? Really??? What a garbage article. How much was he paid by Apple to write that? Edited March 17, 2012 by MiddleClassCentrist Quote Ideology does not make good policy. bush_cheney2004 Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Apple's detractors are trying to compete with the iPad's real and perceived higher quality. It continues to dominate the market despite the higher price premium. In the primary and secondary education markets, just as before, Apple has created a game changer for hardware and content. My company is no longer satisfied to just convert print media to a digital format; it has shifted to direct content development with amazing graphics design to take advantage of the explosion in tablet sales, and that means iPad over all the other pretenders. For portable productivity reasons, I prefer a real keyboard and more storage, hence netbook. But just for the sheer fun and indulgence, make mine an iPad...please. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Boges Posted March 21, 2012 Author Report Posted March 21, 2012 Apple Quality http://ca.news.yahoo.com/apple-ipad-investigated-reports-excess-heat-161323564.html SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Apple Inc's new iPad throws off a lot more heat than the previous version, lending weight to complaints on Internet forums that the hot-selling tablet computer could get uncomfortably warm after heavy use, an influential consumer watchdog found after running tests.Consumer Reports, a widely followed group that reviews everything from electronics to cars, found that Apple's new tablet racked up temperatures of 116 degrees Fahrenheit (47 Celsius) after 45 minutes of running an intense action game, up to 13 degrees F hotter than the previous model under similar conditions. Using a thermal imaging camera, it ascertained that the front and rear of the tablet could run 12 to 13 degrees F hotter than the iPad 2 after running Infinity Blade II, depending on whether it was plugged in, Consumer Reports said.
