Guest American Woman Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 He didn't seem like the type to do that. So you figure someone reported him? That just doesn't seem right. Sounded to me as if that's what others were figuring, so I was just sayin' ......... Quote

Scotty Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 Well, we've both see the inside of the Cooler enough to count the bricks...and M.Dancer's forum bones continue to bleach in the sun. Seems the tactic works well enough. Losers. I report people for the pure and simple reason that if I don't I know I will wind up responding in kind -- and then getting suspended, as I did last time. So if I can't do it, then you can't do it is my basic philosophy. Guest Manny Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 What is it with the repeat temporary bannings anyway? I mean it's one thing to give people a warning and a cool off period, but to have someone who habitually needs to be given a "vacation", I think that tells you something. This person is a problem, and requires more attention from moderators. Seems to me if you've "seen the inside of the cooler" enough times, somethings wrong and you just don't know how to behave yourself, even with warnings. Such persons should be banned after a couple of times. The forums are better without them. Quote

That is, everyone knows the posted limits, but nobody actually goes by them except a few old people. The unwritten rule is as long as you keep to within 20 kilometers of the posted limit you're okay - usually - unless the cop is in a bad mood or needs to meet their quota or something. I mean, hell, if you actually drive the speed limit on the highway you're causing a traffic backup! Everyone is having to pull out to get around you and giving you dirty looks! They think you're weird or stupid or something! But of course, that means you can get busted for speeding at any time. If you tell the cop "But everyone's going that speed!" He doesn't need to care. "You know the limit. What others do doesn't excuse you," he'll say. And if you say you've been driving that speed for years without any hassle that still won't buy you any sympathy. You just got *kcked by the fickle finger of fate. That's life. The moderation here is kind of like that. If they actually enforced the rules two thirds of the membership would be banned. Moonlight Graham Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 The late, great M.Dancer was known to hit the "report button" himself. May he RIP. I noticed that Oleg Bach got banned a couple of months ago too. I remember he got suspended, but then I guess he just kept it going or something. I don't think so. They shouldn't need to police the thing or read every post, daily. But when someone reports it, it comes to their attention and they usually step in to remind everybody how to behave. What are we, little kids or what. Quote

You see something done again and again and again, day after day, multiple times, and it never seems to be punished, it's very easy to fall into the same behaviour pattern yourself. True that, and I think the mods have to ask themselves, is the poster really going to get "the message" and changes their attitude after a 30-day banning, particularly if they've been banned multiple times already? Not likely. Those people who come here primarily to provoke and habitually troll should be permanently banned, for the betterment of these forums. Perhaps there should be a 3-strikes policy. Or put it to a poll. "Should _poster name_ be Banned? Yes/ No". That would be democracy in action. Quote

Or put it to a poll. "Should _poster name_ be Banned? Yes/ No". That would be democracy in action. And who would be left? I bet a lot of people are already annoyed at YOU. I was suspended last month. It wasn't for harassing people, or trolling. It was for being politically incorrect. I insulted the band council of Attawapiskat. I don't think it was the word 'incompetents' which got me suspended, or even the word 'dumbass' but the combination with the word 'natives'. If I'd insulted the town council of some white place I doubt there'd have been an issue. The previous time I was suspended because I referred to an RCMP commissioner of a decade past as a lackey to then PM Jean Chretien. I didn't use the word 'lackey', though the word I used was a synonym for it which originally, a century or so ago, had a homosexual connotation, kind of like 'suckup'(bumboy). This was taken as some sort of gay slur, though I honestly had no idea it would be taken that way, nor did I mean it that way. I was honestly surprised on both occasions. I try not to violate the rules of course but the rules are so broad that if you choose to, you can find a reason to suspend almost any frequent poster unless they're very, very careful about every comment they make.
