i wasnt into the whole gossip business .. that has nothing to do with religion. its just something that occurs in congregations

Ummmm. You said "religious people," which would have everything to do with "religion." But I'm sure you and you alone among all Christians weren't "into the whole gossip business." ;)

Have a great day. :)

Groups of young people gossip and get clichy?

NO EFFIN' WAY!!!!!

olp1fan I hate to break it to you: Water is also wet.

People who base their opinion of people of faith by experiences as a youth group are hilarious to me.

young people? there was barely any young people in my congregation

So maybe you should have found a church that had a youth group then.

Or a church that wasn't full of gossipy busy bodies. They all aren't that way you know.

Again nice sweeping generalizations from you.

Why cuz we're both engaging you in your shitteh cake thread that turned into making broad claims about Christianity.

Below are opinions that are similar to the opinions you're putting forward about Christians.

All Occupy Protesters are Lazy Hippies!!!

All Gay People play the victim card!!!

All Muslims hate women!!!

Prove me wrong!!!

Didn't you guys see Charles come onto the other thread to address insults ?

I'm just visiting this thread now... too much name calling.

Other than Troll, what other names have been slung at other posters in this thread.

I apologize for calling his thread shitteh. That was unfair of me.

I'm referring to slurs against religious groups among other petty name calling that has happened here.

Please refer to the forum rules with regards to insults.

I would hope that you're referring to false accusations, too. I've never made any false claims against Muslims, in spite of the accusations that have been made about me in that regard - while we're on the topic, I would hope such accusations are also against the rules.

Oh so you're talking about what olp1fan was posting then.

I thought AW's comment (way up in the thread, before it degenerated) was apt: statements with regards to religious beliefs are more protected by law than statements around racial prejudices.

For example, you can't refuse to serve people based on race (that's a civil rights violation in the US) but you may be able to based on religious beliefs. Of course, this is different in the US also as same-sex preference is not protected as an identifiable group as it is in the US.

The other question is whether there is a niche market, or some kind of commercial support for people who share these views.

I would think it would also depend on the law regarding gay marriage, since all states don't even recognize gay marriage as legal. It is legal in Iowa, but I haven't been able to find out if clergy who don't believe in gay marriage are required by law to perform marriage ceremonies for gay couples. If not, surely the law wouldn't require a shop to bake a cake in such circumstances?

I don't agree with the baker's viewpoint, her refusal to bake the cake, but I'm speaking strictly from a legal standpoint.
