Boges Posted July 29, 2011 Author Report Posted July 29, 2011 Interesting discussion last night on McKown's show on Sportsnet where they discussed the CFL vs NFL with their American based business editor. Points made were... -if played by CFL rules , CFL team would win more than lose, and vice versa if NFL rules. Reasons for that are the 1 yrd rule, 3 downs, size of the field. Seems the agility of linemen in the NFL would be a downside for the 1 yrd and for the size of the field. The biggest problem would be the American coaches would be lost. What a stupid debate. Cleo Lemon and Ricky Ray would beat Peyton Manning and Drew Brees because the rules are different? That's laughable. Quote
guyser Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 What a stupid debate. Between well informed knowledgeable broadcasters. Cleo Lemon and Ricky Ray would beat Peyton Manning and Drew Brees because the rules are different? That's laughable. See my first paragraph. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 The biggest problem would be the American coaches would be lost. Is that because all the CFL coaches watch so much NCAA and NFL football? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Shady Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 What a stupid debate. Cleo Lemon and Ricky Ray would beat Peyton Manning and Drew Brees because the rules are different? That's laughable. Yep, completely laughable. The NFL teams would kick the shit outta the CFL teams every time. The only issue would be allowing the NFL teams to practice the new rules before games were actually played. Quote
guyser Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 Is that because all the CFL coaches watch so much NCAA and NFL football? I would think so. The exposure one way far outstrips the view north. Quote
guyser Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 Yep, completely laughable. Sopmething tells me McKown, Shannon and the Yank guy know a bit more about it than you do. And yeah, they would laugh at your assertion, which really you must be quite used to by now. Quote

Great he's American and has a hard-on for the CFL, he'd be an expert in both leagues. Are we really going to have to go through this again. The best players go to the NFL because that's where the money is. It's not an assessment of the game (though I believe the American version is better) You can't compare the two leagues. Quote

Ask Jake Long that. I doubt coaches that put in 80 hour weeks during the football season would be lost because of simple rule changes. Quote

It's not an assessment of the game (though I believe the American version is better) Agreed....the NFL is considered to be the pinnacle of professional football. It was the NFL that rescued the rival CFL from insolvency, not the other way around. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Shady Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 The idea was how would one fair if playing the others rules. Unless the new rules included the CFL teams starting with a 4 TD lead, the NFL teams would completely destroy the CFL teams. Quote
Shady Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 Exactly what throws can Anthony Cavillo make that Petyon Manning can't? Exactly what runs can a CFL running back make that Chris Johnson, who by the way has Olympic type speed, can't make? What routes can a CFL receiver make that Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, or Reggie Wayne can't make? What blocking schemes do CFL offensive linemen run that offensive linemen in the NFL can't run? What receivers in the CFL can't a Revis or Asomugha cover? What CFL corners could even cover an NFL wide receiver? Quote
kimmy Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 It's a ridiculous notion. The NFL has much higher calibre athletes. End of story. However, that's not the only thing to consider when you're deciding who to watch. For example, the Bengals or Bills could handily whip whatever teams end up playing in the Rose Bowl... but the Rose Bowl will matter to a lot more people than any game the Bengals or Bills play in this year. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
Jack Weber Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 It wasn't a cheap shot at all. Stop being a baby about it. All he did was push him to the ground while Culter was trying to run for some yards. Are all Bears fans pussies? Or is it just you? Really? So playing in the NFC championship game in the 90s isn't a sniff of a champtionship? Get real. You're just upset that the Bears will probably finish last in their division this year. Their old, and their quarterback throws more interceptions than completions to his own team! How many championships have your Detroilette Permalosers won since 1930??? That what I thought... The Bears are pussies??? Ask Charlie Sanders and Chuck Hughes about the Bears...Two Detroit Permaloser bodies sacrficed to the great Chicago Bears defence!!!! Hey..in your case, being a fan of the Detroit Permalosers shows everyone that the phrase "Birds of a feather flock together" definately apply... Chumps (Lions fans) backing chumps (the Detroit Lions)... Quote The beatings will continue until morale improves!!!

kimmy Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 I'd just like to point out that Jay Cutler is a big sissy. He's an Emo QB. The Bears just traded one of their top receivers to the Panthers yesterday too. Well, he's no Rex Grossman to be sure. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

Jack Weber Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 Well, he's no Rex Grossman to be sure. -k He's no Jim McMahon,either... Put the quality of the players aside, it's a debate that doesn't really need to be had. There are many parts of the Canook game I do not like. 3 downs is first and foremost, the rouge is second. But I just like the way the American game is played better. The playbook is far more varied than what you see in the CFL. BTW I should stop watching the Argos, they keep choking away leads. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 Put the quality of the players aside, it's a debate that doesn't really need to be had. That's part of the problem....the CFL actually does put the quality of the players aside, with yet another version of limiting CanCon rules and smaller salaries dictated by market realities. Considering their injury situation, and being someone who bleeds Black and Gold it makes me want to puke saying this, the Argonauts could have won that game last night. And they may have inadvertently exposed the Edmonton defence's weakness... The Edmonton D is very fast but very small...The Argo's O-Line pushed them around more than a few times last night. This will probably show up for Edmonton as the season wears on and these players get worn down.... I don't think the Eskimos are as good as their record nor do I think the Argonauts are as bad as their record. But the Blew team definately blew it last night seeing as Hamilton beat Montreal and had the Argos won, they would have been only 2 points behind... Shady Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 (edited) The Bears are pussies??? Nope. Learn how to read Jack. I clearly asked if all Bears fans are pussies. Your complaining about Suh pushing Cutler is ridiculous. This is football, not ballet. Anyways, enjoy Roy Williams! He's so good that even the Lions didn't want him. But it's a perfect combination. An emo QB throwing to an emo wide receiver! Edited July 31, 2011 by Shady Quote

At least you tacitly admit your Detroillette Permalosers did'nt Williams... Frankly,I don't want him either...But such is life under the money grubbing Halas/McCaskey cabal of money grubbing scum that control the Bears...Trade away Greg Olsen for draft picks...Pick up a seriously underachieving receiver...Pass it off as an "improvment"... At least we never went 0-16,though... Only the Detroillette Permalosers own that distiction... Quote The beatings will continue until morale improves!!!
