Canada recognizes the Lybian rebels

Recommended Posts

Offically the Canadian government has given it's support to the counter government that is waging a rag tag war in Lybia. Pick up trucks backing up while a heavey machine gun fixed to the bed fires away at nothing...never have I seen such a useless bunch of so called rebels. What I would like to know is WHO the leaders are and whether the Canadian authorities are in communication with them? In order to offically recognize what might be the potetial new governement it might be wise to put a name of a few of the top faces that may eventually be in charge ........Frankly I beieve the recogition of the rebel forces is strickly a formality because we are members of the Nato alliance....and I totally doubt if Canada has a clue what's going on.

Will the new government be worse than the present regime? Is it a monster ready to hatch as we slide down the slippery road of mission creep? You would imagine before giving your formal international approval of any potential power force that you should know accurately who they are and what they stand for...but we do not.

You are right we are just dropping humanitarian bombs on civilians.

Yes of course we are. We are not bombing artillery, tanks, weapons depots, we are bombing civilians...

..I know this cause you say so...

Oh...shall I refer to you as 'idiot', too?

You can, but you'd be wrong. And I know where it's coming from, so really does not have much weight.

Listen, NATO and the UN are calling these shots, and dragging both Canada and the US into this. Neiter Bush or Harper got any government approval for this new conflict, which is a horrible situation in of itself.

So why Libya and not any other country that is going through essentially the same thing? Syria anyone?

I know you guys don't see it the way I do, and that is fine. I am not here to convince you two of anything, only because your heads are buried in the sand or in your ass, I can't tell which. But whatever. Go with whatever the government tells you, because they never lie right??

But who are the rebels??

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/libya/8407047/Libyan-rebel-commander-admits-his-fighters-have-al-Qaeda-links.html

Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi, the Libyan rebel leader, has said jihadists who fought against allied troops in Iraq are on the front lines of the battle against Muammar Gaddafi's regime.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/03/29/us-libya-usa-intelligence-idUSTRE72S43P20110329

(Reuters) - Intelligence on the rebels battling Libya's Muammar Gaddafi has shown "flickers" of al Qaeda or Hezbollah presence, NATO's operations commander said, but U.S. officials said there were no indications militant groups are playing a significant role in Libya.

http://www.jpost.com/MiddleEast/Article.aspx?id=212003

A senior member of al Qaida urged Libyan rebels to continue their fight against Muammar Gaddafi and warned of the consequences of defeat, in a videotaped message posted on Jihadi websites, the Qatar-based Gulf News reported on Sunday.

The message from Libya native, Abu Yahya al-Libi, marked the first time a top ranked al Qaida commander had commented on the uprising in Libya. Gaddafi has repeatedly blamed al Qaida for inciting the unrest against him.

The rebels are Al-Queda.

Ummm, yes, Obama and Harper got government approval. In the case of Canada, parliamentary permission is unnecessary when it comes to making war, but they got it anyway...again. The power to declare war or to send the CAF rests solely with the Crown.

The United States has a long and mixed record of supporting rebels in internal conflicts, so it should know that helping out anti-government forces can sometimes backfire. However, history may be about to repeat itself.

The international community permitted intervention in Libya to protect civilians from Colonel Gaddafi, but Washington wants to go further than that and is considering arming the rebels.

While officially denying that toppling Gaddafi is the objective of its involvement in Libya, President Obama has reportedly signed a secret order authorizing covert American support for rebel forces seeking to oust the Libyan leader.

U.S. intelligence agencies believe ragtag rebel forces fighting Col. Moammar Gadhafi in eastern Libya include some Islamists with possible ties to al Qaeda, but the number of Islamist fighters is relatively small and their role in the opposition is limited, according to U.S. officials.

The roots of al Qaeda were famously planted in Afghanistan in the 1980s, fighting the Soviet Union. Many current al Qaeda fighters, including Osama bin Laden, were then mujaheddin rebels that benefited greatly from American arms and covert military training against a better-equipped fighting force.

Today, in Libya, a ragtag group of rebels fight a seesaw battle against Muammar Qaddafi's better-equipped forces, and a debate rages over whether to provide them arms and training.

However, whispers are growing that al Qaeda may already be among them, complicating the current debate over arming the rebels.

Officials cautioned Sunday that it's too early to determine whether the United States and its allies should arm the Libyan rebels, saying the coalition is still trying to assess the influence of supposed "flickers" of Al Qaeda in the opposition.

Several lawmakers, however, made clear that it would be unacceptable for Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi to stay in power, with one top official warning his weapons stockpile makes him a potential "terrorist threat."

Canada went into Libya with lofty ideals and little knowledge

Jeffrey Simpson

Libya is a country of sorts, an authoritarian state overlaying a multiplicity of tribes, some of which are loyal to Colonel Gadhafi, others fiercely hostile to him.

It'a a deep quagmire in other words, a post colonial hangover who's effects are finally starting to register. Another so-called country cobbled together back in the day by people who had no more of a clue about what they were doing as people today do. Like many in the region surrounding it Libya is coming apart at the old seams that were often capriciously if not maliciously woven together - probably woven by people much like those who like to mock any doubts Canadians might have about our government's wisdom.

There is not a damn thing our interference can do over there except make things worse.

Anyone ever wonder what it's really like to face a deficit that's been left behind by previous generations? Just wait until the environmental and economic bills start coming due. They're probably in the mail as we speak.

An outright theft of Libya. We need to pull the hell out of Libya right now.

That might make common sense but as the good people had fun and slept the ambitious idiots took over the world. In strange effect we are leaderless. Our systems of election are now only geared towards those with money and material power...no one has mentioned that just because you are rich and powerful you are intelligent. I will say that now - the evidence shows that those making the decisions are totally out of their minds. Cream rises to the top as they say and so does scumb.

I don't believe that anyone really knows why the Americans are still in Iraq and making sure that they stay in the new stone age..because that seems to be the effect of this envolvement - Same can be said of Afghanistan - they with the influx of more international money are MORE corrupt - Opium production is up - A large number of the locals of all ages are drug addicts including some of the children...so the proof is in the pudding. Were intelligent choices and decision made regarding these places? I really don't see any sign of that! Lybia should have been handled the same way as the belated murder of that villian Bin Laden - America like Israel have shown they if they WANT can dispose of any percieved villian at any time.

BUT - in order to get rid of villians and seeing evil and stupidity are kin - Villains can not and will not do a proper job getting rid of the sinister jerks - because they are inept - If our leaders were competent they would not be politicians...and politicals are all fools - why else would you take such a dumb job unless you were utterly stupid.? This will get worse because as we languish and wonder more stupid and ambitious people clammer at the throne of power.
