cybercoma
This is serious news. Jack Layton was found lying naked in a bed in a suspected bawdy house with a suspected Asian hooker Oh, shut up already. He was found in a licensed massage clinic on a table with an Asian masseuse that told police nothing sexual had occurred between them. Keep spinning. Mr.Canada
You guys don't think that it speaks to his character at all? Remember Jack is the champion of women and against them being objectified then he is found lying naked in a bed in a massage parlor. Notice I didn't say suspected bawdy house. I'm asking a serious question, no spinning. Edited April 30, 2011 by Mr.Canada

Mr.Canada
You get naked when you have a massage. Have you ever had one? Yes, a few times, legit places no funny stuff, licensed people. I wasn't completely naked lying there spread eagle, I had a towel on. But I'm not a politician trying to run the country and I wasn't found in a police raid either. Edited April 30, 2011 by Mr.Canada
cybercoma
I don't think it speaks negatively against his character at all. He went to a clinic that was registered. You don't get a massage through your clothes. I think this speaks volumes about the character of those that would try to use this to attack Layton on the most successful campaign the NDP has ever had. If it was such an issue, why hadn't it been brought up over the last 15 years? Why didn't they bring it up when he won the leadership in 2003? Why didn't they bring it up in any of the last 4 elections? You know why. I know why. Voters know why.

Sounds to me like you are letting your imagination get the better of you. I assume when the police bust down a door that you jump up even if you have a towel on. Thus you become naked. Hydraboss
NO if they imply it, it is Libel in Canada. Again we live under a British system of Libel not an American one. I cited a law text. You cited nothing. SCC Canada’s highest court ruled Tuesday in two decisions that publishers can escape liability if they can show that they tried to verify the facts and the published material is a matter of public interest. (CBC) Defamation info decision of Grant v. Torstar Corp., 2009 SCC 61 (“Grant”) and its companion case, Quan v. Cusson, 2009 SCC 62 (“Quan”), the Supreme Court of Canada sought to strike a more appropriate balance between freedom of expression and the protection of reputation by creating the new defence of “responsible communication on matters of public interest” (the “Defence”). The Defence allows defendants in libel cases where statements of fact are at issue to evade liability if they can show that they acted responsibly in reporting on a matter of public interest, even if the statements of fact are untrue. Prior to the decision, defendants could not avoid liability in these cases unless they showed that the statement was substantially true (the defence of justification), Go ahead punked, make my day. There have been plenty of rumors around about Harper and his family the progressive media in this country haven't touched it.
Sandy MacNab
You get naked when you have a massage. Have you ever had one? Yes, I have. Only those areas of the body that were supposed to be naked were naked. I was allowed to, and encouraged, to keep my shorts on and my hands to myself. punked
SCC Defamation info Got it if they tried to verify the facts? So they must of called Layton about this before they published it eh? If they didn't welcome to Libel land baby.

I was allowed to, and encouraged, to keep my shorts on and my hands to myself. Plenty of people wear a swim suit to shower in the mens room at the pool. Doesn't mean I do. Again people get naked for massages. It is quite common place.
KeyStone
Seriously, Digging up a "scandal" from 15 years ago, is considered breaking news? Sun News has shown that they really have no class, and no taste. This is a new low for Canadian politics. No wonder people are sick of Conservatives. Hydraboss
Got it if they tried to verify the facts? So they must of called Layton about this before they published it eh? If they didn't welcome to Libel land baby. Wrong again skippy. They don't have to verify a damn thing with the plaintiff. If they took their information from duly filed police records (which they will show), then the only ones who have to answer are the cops. All the cops have to do is pull their signed statements from officers (nightly report) and voila! They're in the clear. Listen, if I want to know something about socialism I'll call you. If you want to know about libel and slander defence (defamation cases), call me.
Mr.Canada
When people here say he just got a massage, it sounds very innocent but once the facts are interlaced into that massage it changes the picture dramatically. He wasn't just getting a massage in a normal place but in a suspected bawdy house where Asian sex workers were known to ply their trade. When police arrived the Asian who was massaging Jack Layton left the room with a wet tissue as well. It doesn't look good. Please stop leaving out the complete facts. They took them from a note book a police man had at his house. Says right in the article the only thing the police officer filed was his name and place of birth. Sorry. Again they have to show they tired to VERIFY the action. Right now they have a note book from a police officer who says he has an ax to grind with Jack. So if they wanted to verify they would really have to find another source.

mikedavid00
This man can be Canadas next PM and he's found naked lying in a bed. What sort of example is this man setting? This is an outrage!!!!! First we have Liberal and ex NDP going nude on the Mercer Report infront of the whole country. Now we have Layton at a message parlor which is huge here in Toronto with our massive asian population and illegal sex workes. Yes.. illegal sex workers. Who remember 'stripper gate'? If only people in the G8 could hear about some of the stuff that goes on here.. wow.. All brought to you by the Liberals and NDP of course...
