The story is back. cbc news

Foreign interference continues to pose an ongoing threat to Canada's sovereignty and national security, the head of CSIS says in a confidential report.

"These clandestine efforts by foreign governments to influence our officials, policies and communities have the potential to undermine our ability to make independent decisions in Canada's national interests," CSIS director Richard Fadden wrote in a report to Public Safety Minister Vic Toews.

Fadden also writes in the heavily censored report, obtained by The Canadian Press, that those targeted may be "subject to threats, coercion or potential blackmail."

Fadden wrote the report following his interview in July with CBC News. Fadden had told the CBC that foreign governments hold influence over at least two cabinet ministers in two provinces, and are also involved with municipal politicians in B.C. and federal public servants.

He did not provide any names, but implied that China was one of those foreign governments.

...

But he concludes that the "manipulation of Canada's government and ethno-cultural communities through foreign interference poses an ongoing threat to our sovereignty and national security."

Pretty scary stuff, but not surprising. China makes sense. So would Israel. But speculation is beyond the point.

It is also rather odd that the head of CSIS would go public with this info. A deliberate political move maybe? To let those know CSIS is watching them?

We deserve exactly what we get for allowing special interests to lobby our government behind closed doors.

Turns out stupid things happen to stupid people!

We'll probably only ever know as much as wikileaks is able to get it's hands on.

In the meantime, about the last thing I worry about anymore is who's trying to influence my politicians. I mean c'mon, that ship left port a long long time ago.

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

CSIS - has my full support - we in this stinking liberal democracy invite our enemies into our house hold - those who do not come to give but to take and incrimentally destroy and conquer.

This is nothing new. The Americans have been conducting clandestine activities against us for decades. Kennedy and the CIA brought down the Conservative Government and installed a Liberal Government in 1963 with agents of influence such as Doug Harkness, George Lamay and Lucien Rivard.

You can be sure they are still at it. Rene Levesque was also a CIA informant.

So that's why my hats are so expensive.

Levesque felt it was better to keep the US informed than make them guess.

Kennedy arranged for large contributions to be made to Pearson's campaign in 1963 after carefully leaking Diefenbaker's refusal to arm our Honest John tactical missiles with nuclear weapons. The conduit for American money to the Liberals were George Lamay and Lucian Rivard. The latter gave $50,000 to the grits.
