Judging by the number of South Vietnamese that got the hell out of there, I think maybe a lot of them weren't too thrilled about unification either. It's hard to defend the South Vietnamese regime, but what you wrote sounds like the beginning of a rather ridiculous form of historical revisionism.

Al-Qaeda have not repelled this invasion, the Taliban has. And as i stated before, no my knowledge the Taliban have not attacked the West other than on Muslim territory in defense of their own country. Yes they did harbour al-Qaeda, but the Taliban did not hijack any planes on 9/11 or attempt attacks any other Western cities. The Taliban has shown little to no sign of being a major threat to launch transnational terrorist attacks against the West.

They are nonetheless a terrorist group.

I'm familiar enough with the Vietnam conflict and its roots to know that you're oversimplified description is patently absurd.

So much for you being second to none historian around these parts.

He/she didn't refer to "every attack" in the world, but was referring to 9/11. 9/11 occurred partly because of blowback, but also because of wacko radical Qutbist beliefs.

If that's the case, if he/she wasn't referring to every attack in the world, then his/her statement was an incorrect statement.

It should be noted that allegations of dumping include European, Asian and other African companies...not nations. It's something like 1000 Euros plus per ton to get rid of waste in Europe...less than 3 Euros the illegal way.

The nations that harbor these companies are no better than any nation that harbors pirates or terrorists. If you've seen one rogue network of fill-in-blank-here you've pretty much seen them all.

Ah...I see...so in the highest levels over in Washington DC and Ottawa there's 'Let's Dump Crap Into the Indian Ocean' committees hard at work. Makes sense.

No, there's no one hard at work ensuring their countries companies aren't dumping crap into other people's oceans.

If you insist...lol.

Why don't you? Do you think it's funny that nuclear waste is washing up on Somalia's beaches or that other countries fishing fleets are illegally pillaging Somalia's fish stocks or do you just not care?

Perhaps you just don't believe it?

No...I just think it is funny how James Bond has to enter into the picture with your every post.

Indeed they are a terrorist group, Al-Queda evolved out of the Mujaheddin. :D

And if history repeats itself, some of the guerrilla fighters trying to repel the current occupiers of Afghanistan may be tempted to expand to transnational terrorism after we leave just as members of al-Qaeda did after the USSR pulled out.

lovely.

Notice how we in the west often call for moderates around the world to do something towards reigning in their rogues while our's are free to roam the world without any meaningful moderation, oversight or enforcement at all.

No, I do not notice that as a reality. But, I'm sure after talking to 005, you might perceive that.

I don't know about "rare", but yes there are definitely many foreign muslims/arabs/persians etc. who fight in the Taliban, similar to foreigners (ie: bin laden) fighting with the Mujaheddin in the 80's.

Either way...we don't get to hear much about the Taliban's losses. Not very PC, afterall. But you can bet it is in the range of 10-1 or so.

"PC"?

Yep...the Leftwing media, who hates the West, is downplaying Taliban deaths in the hope of a Taliban victory.....all in the name of Political Correctness.

Of course hes got it exactly backwards. Where PC comes in here, is the underlying suggestion that its unpatriotic or wrong to question the mission or the ability of the troops to be successful at it.

I question things because I am human. And call no one my father who's no closer than a stranger

We get an up-to-the-minute update if one of our troops gets bagged. But you don't see a lot of stuff like 'NATO ambushes Taliban: over 200 dead'. Unless there's a f-up of some sort...civilian deaths, etc.

I doubt you're qualified to tie a soldier's boots much less comment on the mission.
