I'm sure the government doesn't want to start a panic for people livng around the gulf but this could be as bad or worse than when US dropped the Nuke on Japan. Watch the video.

No big deal...it isn't going to happen. The USA has exploded hundreds of "nukes" just for fun!

Gee...it must be frustrating to be in Canada with "solutions" that nobody is paying attention to. But then the USA wouldn't be your favorite train wreck to watch on cable TV.

Like I said, there are solutions.

It wouldn't be the US government, it would be "mother nature" releasing bubbles of methane gases.....then boom!!!

So says another voice from the wilderness...we all know what Clinton was doing in the White House.

Or, more accurately, we all know that you Republicans were so obsessed with what Clinton was doing, you were willing to bring the nation down with him. Way to go.

Wrong on two counts...I'm not a "Republican", and the only one going down was that woman, Ms. Lewinsky.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/07/07/gulf-awash-abandoned-oil-gas-wells/

Maybe the oil naturally leaking into the gulf is not so natural leaking after all. According to the article the Texas government has plugged more than 21,000. California has plugged and the resealed a whole lot of wells.

Companies that have abandoned wells in the gulf.

BP - over 600

Apache Corp - 2100

Chevron USA - 2700

It also seems that BP was ready to abandon this well where the Deepwater Horizon was.

Regulations for temporarily abandoned wells require oil companies to present plans to reuse or permanently plug such wells within a year, but the AP found that the rule is routinely circumvented, and that more than 1,000 wells have lingered in that unfinished condition for more than a decade. About three-quarters of temporarily abandoned wells have been left in that status for more than a year, and many since the 1950s and 1960s -- even though sealing procedures for temporary abandonment are not as stringent as those for permanent closures.

As a forceful reminder of the potential harm, the well beneath BP's Deepwater Horizon rig was being sealed with cement for temporary abandonment when it blew April 20, leading to one of the worst environmental disasters in the nation's history. BP alone has abandoned about 600 wells in the Gulf, according to government data.

Updating regulations for the oil industry are way over do. Looks like it's been neglected for decades and left up to the oil industry to police themselves. It's not working.

Shady, if you are not pissed already (and you are with good reason) this should just about set you over the edge.

The AP analysis indicates that more than half of the 50,000 wells ever drilled on federal leases beneath the Gulf have now been abandoned. Some 23,500 are permanently sealed. Another 12,500 wells are plugged on one branch while being allowed to remain active in a different branch.

That is a lot of potential problems. And what BP paid for already for the clean up of the DeepWater Horizon would have paid to revisit the wells and reseal all abandoned wells in the Gulf of Mexico.

Now if you look globally, how big is this problem?

Why didn't they implement an oil spill clean up plan that's been on the books since 1994 as soon as possible after crude began pumping into the Gulf of Mexico?
What are the details of that plan?

They completely dropped the ball. And now this oil spill is going to end up being much worse than it had to be. Perhaps spending Saturday evening telling jokes wasn't the most suitable use of a President's time.

His name isn't even real. It's an Acronym for One Big Ass Mistake for America.

....Also, there is a video on CNN about where BP is dumping the materials from the clean up effort. I can't make a direct link to the video, but the title is 'BP dumping waste in Mississippi".

Well, all those bags and haz suits have to go somewhere. Is Ontario still sending "materials" to Michigan landfills? ;)

I am discussing the topic, even with your off-topic divert....what's wrong with Mississippi getting a piece of the action? Where are the "materials" suppose to go....BP's corporate offices?

How about as part of the "junk-fill" part of "top-kill"?

You've not discussed anything really here at all. And I'll keep posting here in this thread regarding the oil spill, to make it easier for you to continue trolling.

But dumping it at BPs corporate offices would be a good idea.

It's the best I could do with your half-assed reference to what "might" be happening in Mississippi. Please cry for the Gulf of Mexico, and keep it in your non-denominational prayers each night.

I knew you would like that.....

The only think half ass'd about it is that I could not link the video directly.

Hey guys remember when Shady endorsed Jindal's idiotic sand berm proposal in this thread and talked about how Obama wouldn't lend money or time to it? Well after 2 days and many hours of man power and money going into them anyway they washed away like every expert except Jindal and Shady said they would. Here are the pictures showing you Republicans jump on silly ideas to throw at problem instead of claim rational thought the president puts in.

http://www.americablog.com/2010/07/jindals-artificial-islands-are.html

It might also interest you to know that the person who built these were awarded the contract by Jindal to the number 3 contributor to his last campaign. Seriously. Did I mention these cost 360 MILLION DOLLARS to wash away?

Right. You just religously defend and apologize for the Republican Party, and call yourself BushCheney. Of course you aren't Republican.

Wrong again....apologizing for American policies is the last thing I need or want to do.

No, actually it is natural. Seepage throught the ocean floor is scientific fact. However, the abondoned well is a different issue. And that certainly can cause oil leakage on its own.

Hey guys remember when Shady endorsed Jindal's idiotic sand berm proposal in this thread and talked about how Obama wouldn't lend money or time to it?

It's not idiotic, despite what your leftwing blog might say. Sand berms have been used regularly to prevent delicate coastal ecosystems from oil and or other pollutants during disasters or accidents. I'm sorry you find Jindal's effort to actually try to keep oil from the wetlands as idiotic. Perhaps he should have followed Obama's lead and golfed several rounds on consecutive weekends.

Anyways, looks like the Obama administration has now made reporting on the Gulf oil spill a Class D felony, punishable by a fine of up to $40,000.

This from the supposed most open and transparent administration ever! Imagine if Bush did this?
