Then you have the bullying issue. Much less of it for children to face in the private schools. Kids being what they are, I can remember kids wearing turbans being given a hard time in the public system. That is simply not fair. Then too, the teachers are given more authority to deal with situations that may arise.

They also do the job of teaching these students for less than it would cost in the public system. The kids have to be taught somewhere, and by carrying out the government service of teaching these students from k to grade 12, a significant savings is made over them being in the public system.

Good. Pay for it yourself.

It is paid already, with a lean mean budget and a fair contribution from government revenues. Sorry, as taxpayers we can't pick and choose what we want our tax money to go to.

There is nothing fair in a situation where one group gets funding and others do not, which is what is happening in Ontario. Those who want schools outside of the public system can pay for them themselves.

I don't know how things are in Ontario, but since this story is based in BC, I'll inform the reading public of how funding of schools work out here. School boards are given their budget based on how many students they have, like a head tax. Now if student A goes to a public school, the school board receives so much to educate that student. But if student A goes to a Catholic school, then the government does not pay that amount, but a much smaller amount to the Catholic school.

So the government saves a significant amount of money for every student that goes to a private school. Those that would have these schools receive no funding to train these students miss the fact that these families pay just as much taxes as everyone else, and penalize their bank accounts to send their kids to such schools. They would mostly not be able to afford paying the amount that the government does on top of what they already pay, and the kids would end up in public schools.

Thus the end result would be the government paying much more to educate these students. Funny how that works. No doubt Ontario is completely different.

She wasn't fired. She was on a one-year contract to fill in for someone. Contracts almost always say that duties can be changed as long as they remain in the sphere of their competence. The school is paying her up to the completion of her contract. So I can't really see how this could end up in court....regardless of the valid innuendo.

BC HRT has 'supreme authority', they just told the BC Supreme Court to piss off, can't imagine they'd watch out for a little thing like the Charter or the Constitution.

Really ? HRTs are above the Supreme Court now ? Says who ? That's really a new idea, I think.

BC SC specifically ordered the HRT to establish whether or not they had jurisdiction over charter grounds and freedom of expression, prior to conducting any sort of hearing.

It's the same reason the defendants lawyer walked out, feeling that the HRT was in contempt of a real court of law.

BC HRT explaining why they don't give a F what the BC SCC said

http://www.bchrt.bc.ca/decisions/2010/pdf/april/128_Pardy_v_Earle_and_others_%28No_3%29,_2010_BCHRT_128.pdf

They also decided he's not allowed to appeal their decisions at a real court of law.

It's a really interesting case, could carry some precedent implications.

Could care less if they help 1000 people per day, I personally will never again support the kangaroo court garbage ever again.

EDIT:

Looking for actual transcript of the SC ruling, in the near term:

Two years ago Earle tried to have the complaint dismissed, saying the tribunal lacked jurisdiction, but the tribunal refused.

Last year, a B.C. Supreme Court judge ordered the tribunal to reconsider Earle's arguments. The tribunal ruled it will carry out the hearing, then decide if it has jurisdiction to make a ruling.

This is confusing. The SC ordered them to establish whether they themselves had jurisdiction ? It seems that the SC would establish that.

what are these non Canadian non tax payers giving back to Canada exactly?

The Catholic system is much better then the public one by far. Better teachers, students get better grades and the structure is superior.

You might be quite right on your last assertion since the answer to your first question is: permission to use the land, water and air which were established by treaties no doubt written, and signed, by British Protestants.

In other words, if you need to reply to the lesbian teacher told to work from home, blame the British Protestants. They started it all...

Catholic schools are protected in some old documents, that will never change so get used to it. Some of the same old documents that the Native Indian non Canadians like to use. Natives being non Canadians and non tax payers they should have no say at all at what Canada does since they don't pay taxes and aren't Canadians. This doesn't stop them from taking billions of dollars each year though...what are these non Canadian non tax payers giving back to Canada exactly?

9,984,670 square kilometres of land. Have we ever given anything of remotely equal value?

Catholics used to have to pay for their own education each year in order to go to Catholic schools. The Catholic system is much better then the public one by far. Better teachers, students get better grades and the structure is superior.

Yeah, on my tax dollars. What? Catholics have no money of their own?

Yeah, and between the two of you I bet you don't pay enough net taxes to buy a box of pencils.

First of all, you know nothing about me, and plus you're dead wrong.

Second, and more importantly, those with low enough incomes that they pay little tax still are citizens with as much right as you to offer opinions on public monies.

You've betrayed your insupportable elitism here, your hatred of democratic principles.

What I have to mention ever single group I want to have funding cut for by name? I'm going to try to make this perfectly clear.

This specific incident is about Catholic's so I'm going to mention Catholics specifically but that's a far cry from mentioning them exclusively. Just because I was only talking about one group doesn't mean I think all other groups should get a free pass. This isn't just about context this is also about you being an ignorant ass.

Wrong. You see, on every subject, on any thread which is focussed on a single organization...you have to preface each post with an expansive list of every organization that you believe falls into a similar boat. Each of your posts should be at least two thousand words in length, so that your blatant "hypocrisy" doesn't get in the way.

:) Don't worry about it, TM. He doesn't believe what he's saying anyway.

Now capitalism is important? Sharing the land is what the Natives were about. Now it's all about receiving equal value? I guess we taught them something - greedy capitalism. They have learned our ways well.

So is it okay with you if schools want to fire child molesters or porn viewers? They are discriminating too. Many businesses won't hire convicts for cashier jobs, how moronic is that, eh?

What's wrong with porn viewers?

I don't approve of two lesbians having a baby. That kid is gonna end up f*cked up.

That said, althogh we should all have the freedom to send our kids to a school where they are not exposed to this kind of crap, I will concede that perhaps they should not get funding.

Although on the other side of the same coin, since when should lesbians have access to funding and Catholics excluded simply for their beliefs?

We all have beliefs. It's telling about where our society is headed when the Toronto Gay Pride Parade gets heaps of money but people want a Catholic girls school in Vancouver cut off.

Ok can we get back to the laws at hand

You can not discriminated against a person's orientation EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....

So what do yah think of that new lady that Obama has appointed to the Supreme Court...kind of a man woman, wouldn't yah say? Wonder if she is married? I rather doubt it..rather go to hell and burn than mate with that diesel doink....Maybe I am cruel but ...she is a man...and Jewish to boot..wonder what kind of strange rulings she will make once she comes out of the proverbial closet?

Of course. They thought they were sharing the land, not giving it. We taught them well indeed.

She is not married.

According to those who have personally known her for years, she is straight.

As if this matters at all.

And I can't imagine how her being Jewish is of any significance.
