Another Obama First Pitch

Recommended Posts

Anybody else see this from monday afternoon?

However, the best part of this is when he's asked who his favourite Whitesox player was growing up and He can't answer the question! It's hilarious. He brings up Hawaii, and then the Oakland A's, and then brings up Comiskey Park in Chicago, which he mispronounces as Cominskey Park. This guy's such a phoney!

Here's the AUDIO

That is what I would call, "File under who cares".

If I ever attained high office and someone asked me about the Blue Jays I would misprounce Rogers Centre and call it the Skydome....and when asked about the players I would concentrate hard and give my best blank stare.

Obama hates baseball because he hates America. My aunt Fern from South Lahoma emailed me that he's trying to make Jai-alai the national sport because he's a socialist and a witch.

I tend to agree as well, except that this behavior seems to be a part of a pattern. Just as his census form. It lets us all see a little into who this person really is, and really acts like.

I guess it would depend on how much during your campaigns, and time in office, that you played up your love of baseball and love your hometown Chicago White Sox, or in your case Toronto Blue Jays. See, if you didn't play it up, you probably wouldn't be asked about it.

Looks like the mainstream media is even taking notice now!

Obama swings and misses at Sox lore

Dibble: "Who was one of your favorite White Sox players growing up?"

Obama: "You know … uh … I thought that … you know … the truth is, that a lot of the Cubs I liked too."

Ouch. The silence between the stammers was excruciating. America's No. 1 Sox fan couldn't name one Sox player

But you would expect a Sox fan to know the name of the ballpark.

"When I moved to Chicago," Obama babbled to Dibble, "I was living close to what was then Cominskey Park and went to a couple of games and just fell in love with it."

What's that? Come-in-ski? Is that how Obama invites the Russian foreign minister into the Oval Office during a diplomatic crisis?

A panicked Obama tried to escape by using an old standby I've used myself, ripping on Cubs fans for delicately "sipping their wine" at ivy-covered Wrigley. Then it got worse.

"I did not become a Sox fan until I moved to Chicago," said Obama. "Because, you know, I was growing up in Hawaii, so I ended up being an Oakland A's fan."

The Oakland A's?

Wow, you really do hate the fact that there's a black man in the White House, don't you?

Ah yes, more of the anti-intellectual 'if you criticize Obama you must be a racist' nonsense. It makes me laugh though!

What's next? Let's ask Obama which foot he puts his sock on first and if he takes more than two second to answer it let's have him impeached and thrown out of the White House?

This is beyond pathetic.

Nobody's saying he should be impeached. Just be genuine and not fake. That's not pathetic at all.

Apparently, Shady would feel better if Obama claimed to be white and knew more about baseball.

Yes, if by that you mean tell the truth and don't be a complete phoney. He's as bad as John Kerry pretending to be a Packers fan back in '04, while referring to Lambert Field in Green Bay.

Oh come on. Obama obviously doesn't know sports. If I had known that, if I had known he doesn't know White Sox players in particular, I never would have voted for him. Who in their right mind would have?

Shady's right. This is a national embarrassment. An international embarrassment. I'll never be able to show my face outside the country again.

Given the choice between a President who knows a lot about baseball or one who reads a lot of books, I'd choose the guy who reads a lot of books, all other things being equal.

I don't think Obama is trying to deceive people into thinking he's a big baseball guy. I think he's doing this because it's traditional and expected and he's being a good sport about it.

I also think it's a charming tradition, and I kind of wish we had a comparable one here in Canada.

Finally, I recall during the election that some of the board's prominent Obama supporters were challenging people to find a way to make fun of Obama without mentioning race... and you've gotta admit, watching him attempt to baseball is pretty hilarious.

In case you didn't realize it, I was making fun of the fact the you hate the man so much you'd use anything to criticize him. And that's what make you pathetic.

What's next? Gonna check if he flosses?

Well, we do have this little game here that everyone is expected to like, including the Prime Minister...they play it with a stick, and a puck...or something.

Well, I did say "comparable". I didn't mean we should drop hockey and take up baseball. However, it's hard to imagine a Prime Minister strapping on the blades and taking a ceremonial First Slapshot.

In hockey, you usually drop the puck. That's the similar tradition.
