Argus Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 I missed them myself. And apparently, the only video recording made has been transported to Zurich and buried deep beneath a mountain lest anyone who hasn't paid the proper licencing fee show it on the internet. CTV has a few still pictures on its site, but that's about it. So I hear there were Indians. Did they take over the field and refuse to let anyone else on? Shady Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 So I hear there were Indians. I dvr'd it, and watched much of it on fast forward. Yep, there were tons of Indians. I can't believe how a population that composes a microscopic portion of Canada, gets so much face time. Quote

I can't believe how a population that composes a microscopic portion of Canada, gets so much face time. OH the horror... There were Indians... And a lesbian singer... And people speaking French... And a Black woman officially opened the Games... Anything else I'm missing here? Wouldn't want for any whiner to feel left out. Quote
Smallc Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 Yep, there were tons of Indians. Yep, and it was a great show. It did an excellent job of showing off our country from coast to coast to coast. Quote

Smallc Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) You're American. We just get a message saying that international viewers can't watch it because international and US law. There are excerpts of it on ctvolympics.ca, but I don't see the whole thing there. I'm sure it will how up somewhere eventually. Edited February 13, 2010 by Smallc Quote

I thought anything on the web was "world wide" unless the government blocked it. Does that mean Canada is blocking it from Canadian servers? In other words, is it due to Canadian law? I suppose not, if no international viewers can watch it. I find that odd. Quote

It is world wide, but we can't watch anything from outside of Canada...though I think that's usually because of CRTC regulations. This doesn't seem to be...at least not completely: Due to Olympic broadcasting regulations, NBC is only allowed to show Olympic competition video on the internet to users in the United States and U.S. Territories (including Puerto Rico). Users outside of those locations will still have access to an extensive set of non-event video content on NBCOlympics.com including the video listed below. It seems that other countries can watch the opening ceremonies there (they show up on international videos), but it seems that Canadians can't. Quote

BubberMiley Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 It's because NBC has a licence to broadcast in the U.S. If they see a non-U.S. ISP, they block it. It's sort of like how the Daily Show is blocked from Comedy Central so you have to go to the Comedy Network to see it. But Hulu is different. I think that's just blocked in Canada because of the CRTC. Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet
kimmy Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 It's not being blocked by the government or the CRTC. Canadians can't watch this for the same reason they can't watch SNL videos or video from Hulu.com. The source website won't stream it to addresses outside the United States, for reasons relating to licenses or copyright. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
Guest American Woman Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 This is all news to me. They say you learn something new every day, and I just did, because I assumed unless a country chose to block something, everything on the web was 'broadcast' "world wide." Thanks to all for the info; I appreciate it. Quote

Well when you think of it, it kind of makes sense since those whining dumb rednecks were the result of prison camps and losers who were sent here to build the railways then they became children of incest--the very whiners you see on forums like this Quote

Thanks to all for the info; I appreciate it. It's all nonsense, I can't watch it on the NBC website but I can watch NBC coverage in high def from Seattle on Starchoice, a Canadian satellite company. Griz Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 What the hell was that actor from California doing in the relay? That was a bit dozy--you know the actor with the big muscles and little rod bulging on steroids? What a poor choise that was--that was an insult as far as I'm concerned Quote
Smallc Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 Why was that such an insult? BC and California do many green initiatives together, and he wasn't the only foreign national to run in the relay. Quote
