nicely said.

Then please tell me why the people who hate the US for its imperialism want us to cozy up to China.

I'm curious about why this so-called 'blowback' hasn't affected nations like Russia or China which have been just as heavily involved as the US in interfering in third world countries affairs, in supporting guerrila and terrorist movements, and in undermining either governments or opposition movements. The Chinese are quite active right now in a variety of third world nations in efforts at securing resources - at any cost, and no one seems to be making any efforts to blow up their airplanes or buildings.

the central cause to everything, the issue that gave rise to Islamic extremism...Israel...both China and Israel have supported the Palestinian rights to a homeland the USA gave a blank cheque to the settlers and turn a blind eye to their activities......and traditionally China and Russia supported the people that were oppressed by dictators the USA was funding...and the Chinese aren't really interested in controling anyone's government they're businessmen...

Historically economics has been behind the creation of most empires. The British Empire was almost entirely built by guys out to make a buck.

Ask that to the USSR. They got affected the most by guerilla warfare.

China has a reputation for killing 200 million of its own people without delay, then there is Tiananmen square. How do you think a Chinese response to terrorism would go?

So Israel has something to do with, say, a bombing at a volleyball game in Pakistan?

So Israel is now your pro-Palestinian hero nation? Or have you had one too many?

So you're saying that China and Russia are shining beacons for support of democracies? Or Democratic Republics?

Here is what the problem is. "You can't get good help these days." As we see justification of huge payouts in the form of bonus money for high ranking buisness executives...under the pretense of "We must pay top dollar for top talent." THEN in the same quiet breath they hire the most stupidest people they can find to do security at airports for as cheap as possible. Of course that is going to be a problem...why not solve this problem by perhaps paying the executives minimum wage and THEN hiring some highly intuative and intelligent people to do the security for huge bucks. At least you would have people guarding the interests of western nations that would have the diligence and common sense with a dash of intelligence...that would have the abitlity to press fu*King record on the security camera system...You can't have some transplant who's last job was flipping burgers shifted into the capacity of high level security. What do you expect? Dummies manning the castle walls because our rich elite are to frinking cheap to pay for good help.

You've got to be kidding.

Russian terrorist attacks

Chinese terrorist woes.

I guess if you've seen one super-rogue you've seen them all.

No. It's too simple for you to see the obvious. A barbaric 7th Century world, armed with modern weapons, now confronts advanced civilization.

That's obvious enough, the bone of contention though is why. That answer of course influences how we respond which obviously causes things to get more complicated.

but those are home grown movements...

It seems obvious there is a far stronger cultural propensity for revenge in the region around the ME and Central Asia than other regions in the world. Contrast this with the influence of Buddhism for example around Vietnam which has largely forgiven if not forgotten past abuses.

In any case I fail to see why it's such a stretch to conclude that sometimes bullies just bite off more than some people are willing to put up with.

Terrorism occurs against them from their own people. But who is out there in the world that is angry at the Russians and Chinese for their economic imperialism and they way they have supported local insurgency operations - or dictatorships as the case may be - around the world for decades? Nobody. I've seen some eye raising reports of Chinese actions in Africa, for example, which, if done by Americans, would have all the Lefties up in arms screaming bloody murder. But the Chinese don't seem to register. It's not the Americans helping to sustain and protect the brutal regime in Sudan, you know, but the Chinese, but no one cares about that either.

I guess people just expect this sort of behaviour from the Chinese and Russians. The moral dissonance just isn't as piercing.

The other side of the coin you're trying to flip here argues that the terrorism being levelled against the U.S. is based on a hatred for freedom, so why hasn't al Queada attacked Iceland or Jamaica?

It's a two way street. The barbaric ones are also confronted by our modern men in positions of authority who long for the old ways. The macho male still lives in the boardroom and in government. They want to show these primatives that they are the head clan..It's still a very tribal confrontation..and what makes us think that we are advanced? The problem with men of modernity in the west is that they equate power with money and are not willing to part with any substantial part of that money to either bribe their advesary or hire proper and intelligent security..they are just plain cheap.

yes, which is why 911 shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone, but most people live their lives with blinders on not paying attention to what their governments are up to... Edited by wyly

WHEN a father sends you a message that his wayward son is going to do some damage to an aircraft..that message should have been in the presidents office within the hour...How hard can that be? When a couple of aircraft are heading for the twin towers that have no buisness at that altitude or air space - that information should have been called in within minutes - Maybe they should keep it simple and have the embassies have a direct number to Obamas cell phone..the one he has on his body...not a number to call a number to call a number to call a number to call someone who is going to judge and evaluate the process of further calls to another number to call a number...and so on and so on...The commander and Chief has to many chiefs.

Everyone likes to suggest conspriacy..sure they conspire..but not about things like 9 11 . It might be as simple as being plain stupid and inept..remember those of privledge really don't have a lot of empathy...nor are they observant of the needs to keep others safe other than themselves. This loss of good character is one of the sad by products of American success..with utter selfishness comes utter stupidity in time.. The problem still persists to this day. They all sit their using fancey language attempting to look statesman like but no one is really thinking. For instance - the problem in Israel could have been sorted out by sending the right people there to communicate and instruct in and honest way,,, but no - they all pander. You can not please everyone - sometimes you just have to tell the truth and let the dummies sleep on a bed of sharp facts.
