bjre Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 (edited) Watched "Lay and Order" last night on OMNI2. It shows how a father full of happiness when he was cheated by a police that his son have get great academic achievement. But the editor makes the father as a murder at last. I think the culture here is just to destroy all nice / kindness all over the world. Their logic is: Because there are some bad guys, we need defense, we need to check everyone to see if he can bring us danger. That means everyone is on the suspect list of police or other national services. If you are a nice person, they just want to prove you are not so nice, sometimes you can bring danger because when others people treat you not so nice. What kind of reinforcement this is! If you still believe you are a nice person, they want to prove that your nice will may harm to people who near you, for example, your child(ren). You still could be arrested. When you try to help others with good will in emergency case, the system make others possible to sue you for lot of strange reasons, you'd better do nothing and just leave. As a result, the system and the culture are going to destroy every last small piece of kindness from everyone to make everyone selfish, bad, and evil. So that everyone can enjoy living among evils. That is what the law makers happy about. I guess they are already all evils. Mr.Canada Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 Well I don't know. I think that the left wing wants to make everything in the western world to their vision while the right wing resists and pushes back. To be honest I think that the left wing will ultimately get their own way as they have been. Since the 1960's. we've been becoming more and more socialist and it shows no signs of slowing down. The right may win some of the battles here and there but the left is going to win the war. Almost everything is set against the right wing as the right wing represents everything the western world was prior to the 1960's. While the left wants to blow all that up and build something new we're trying to hold on to what we know and trust. Will the new world be better? It's too early to tell the revolution only started about 40 years ago. The left is winning though, I'll make no bones about that. It's too early to tell the revolution only started about 40 years ago. The left is winning though, I'll make no bones about that. Not necessarily! Every so often a society has to be reminded of reality, the hard way! It's been said that one of the reasons the Roman Empire fell is that once they gave the vote to the 'rabble' they immediately started voting bread and circuses for themselves, until there was no more bread and no more money for circuses. I believe there's much truth to that! Man always wants to take the easy path. He instinctively is more of a 'grasshopper' than a 'worker ant', like in the old fable. However, in the end there are always enough of him around to escape the hole Man collectively digs for himself and rebuild. One constant is that Man only smartens up when he is at the end of his rope! As a society, he's just not pro-active. When a society starts from a frontier there are so many reality factors that things tend to be reasonably practical and sensibly run. That's because the common baseline of the people that make up that society for practicality is much higher. John-Boy Walton has to deal with reality every day. He knows instinctively that if the seed doesn't get planted the family starves over the winter. He gets a rough idea of physics from everyday work on the farm, learning very quickly that you need to put the fulcrum close to the rock you're trying to move and not the other way around. People stop respecting the tradesman, who understands how things actually work. Everyone wants their kid to be an accountant or a lawyer. If he or she just isn't smart enough they become 'politicians, beauticians and telephone sanitizers'. THESE are the people who eventually are running things! In their haste to politically be in charge they WILL throw the only man who knows how to bail out of the lifeboat, as it is slowly filling with water! They don't know enough about practical things to even recognize the danger! Once a society matures people as a whole don't have to worry about such things anymore. They start to believe that if you have an electricity shortage you just need to put more outlets in your house, or that if there's a lack of bread you just need to open more variety stores! As the baseline keeps falling things so do services and institutions. Sewers and infrastructure start deteriorating. They may have been built well but they haven't been kept up. Those big electrical generating stations now are insufficient to your needs. You can play games with yourself about conservation being the answer but that only works for a short time. Conservation in that application is really just another word for efficiency. You may reach the impossible goal of 100% efficiency but if your demand keeps increasing you just won't have enough! So things eventually fall apart but just before the worst happens some folks are always smart enough to get the hell out of Dodge! They go up in the hills and come down when its all over. Or they spread the word about the 'B Ark', if you're a fan of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy! So never fear, Mr. C! Man always survives! 3 steps forward and 2 steps back but he keeps progressing. Sometimes he stops for long periods but always progress starts up again. It's just a shame for most individuals who are still in that deteriorating town when things go boom! Marginal tax rates have been in decline since the late 60s, and we've been on a Law & Order agenda (not the series) since Reagan despite dropping crime rates. Of course, the right is never content with their victories - nor is the left for that matter. I'll concede that the left has won the case for considerable (and positive in my opinion) social change by capitalizing on the injustices that were prevalent in America from the mid-20th century onwards. I'll concede that the left has won the case for considerable (and positive in my opinion) social change by capitalizing on the injustices that were prevalent in America from the mid-20th century onwards. I think its more accurate to say that left-wing politicians have been slightly better at hitching their wagons to a simple trend of human nature to evolve towards justice. The right on the other hand seem forever bent on moving forward backwards and returning to some imagined point they think was better or ideal. I think I'll always have trouble accepting the idea that human advancement should always be credited to some ideology politician, political party, government, religion having lead us there. Its the other way around. Edited October 8, 2009 by eyeball Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

Explain how I'm wrong please. Western society has become more liberal and socialist since the late 1950's and is showing no signs of slowing. The left always wants more and more and more, it never stops. I don't see how this is wrong. I conceded that you guys are going to win in the long run, I really know that and believe that. I just try to slow down the inevitable as long as I can. One day Canada will be fully socialist, I firmly believe this. Free everything including higher education at the cost of very high taxes like Denmark has. They have free University there but their taxes are about 50% of their income cheques. The same thing will happen here eventually. Our taxes will be 50% of our gross income. I just don't look forward to what I call the "Mad Max" world where anything goes. Prostitutes are legal, Cocaine, heroin and any drug you can imagine all legal, all prison and jails being shut down because they're deemed medieval and barbaric so criminals roam free without consequence, etc, etc, etc. Total lack of government because people deserve to be free and roam the Earth at will. Only roving bands of thought police remain to enforce the Chairmans rules. Corporations outlawed, Capitalistic ventures outlawed, all farms will grow food that is free for the people. Sounds like hell. This is as far as freedoms will go, this is what we're moving towards eventually because the left pushes for more and more and more they never give up. So it's logical to assume that this will be the reality one day. It may take 200 years to get there but if we keep moving in the direction of "anything goes" then how can it be helped? When will the push for freedom from everything end?
