He admitted to taking money

I admit to taking money from my spouse for groceries every week. If I set aside 5 bucks to buy milk next week because we don't need it yet, does that make me a thief?

he also committed tax fraud by not claiming it on his income tax all those years.

Mulroney disclosed the income through the voluntary disclosure program. I agree it looks sinister but our system allows what Mulroney did, and many Canadians use it.

You must not be aware of his testimony. There wasn't much doubt of his guilt left among anyone who was paying attention.

Well, since you claim to have been paying attention. What crime has he been charged with?

1) Tango said that Mulroney accepted bribes when he was Prime Minister. He only accepted money after he left office - and he admitted having done so. Nothing has arisen in the enquiry to alter those facts.

2) The "tax fraud" you speak of doesn't exist. Mulroney's accountant worked out a deal with Revenue Canada to voluntarily pay taxes on the amount he received from Schreiber. Many Canadians may not like how Revenue Canada handled it but it's a done deal.

3) Mulroney has not been charged with any offense - so far.

There many, many people out there - Conservatives and Liberals alike - that are saddened and upset by Mulroney's involvement in the Schreiber affair. Regardless of the inquiry's findings, Mulroney has embarrassed himself and stained the office of the Prime Minister - even though his acts occurred after he left office. Every PM symbolizes the Office until they die - or at least that's how they should act. Having said all that, there has been a media and partisan vendetta against the man dating to the Airbus fiasco, with most accusations being nothing more than innuendo. His reputation has taken a beating for years - there is no need to exaggerate or make things up.

I watched the whole thing and I clearly came away with the Mulroney KNEW exactly what is was doing and he could have at ANY time had said to Schreider, I want a cheque instead of cash but he didn't. He didn't open a account in the bank in NY were is instead put the money into a deposit box. Mulroney is a lawyer, he was PM of Canada, so he can't give ANY excuse why he did what he did unless it was to get paid under the table!! I, also, think he lead on Schrieder on and he didn't really want to help Schreider, he just kept saying he would so he could more of that money! At this time Mulroney had bigger fish to fry with Barrick Gold, Bush sr, and others. As far as I'm concerned Mulroney is Canada's Richard Nixon!

commiting a crime and being found guilty of a crime are entirely two different things.

So is being accused of one and having no grounds to proceed with charges....

RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS

If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us

very seldom are charges laid when one commits a criminal offence its useally a fine and/or payment of restitution. Just what Mulruney did with revenue Canada, does not hide the fact he commited a criminal offence.

Really now? So those back logs in the courts are fictional?

Now please explain how a fine can be levied without charges being laid....

...This should be good.

What Muroney with Rev Can did was perfectly legal and by the book.

Deals are made all the time my neighbor made a deal with the power company when he got busted for stealing power, all they wanted was the money. Doesn't hide the fact he stole power.

That doesn't even begin to explain the nonsense you posted....Mulroney was suspected of stealing hydro...

To have a drink and shoot the shit, who cares. Why do we have to spend millions on a witch hunt to find out the obvious something wasn't above board. Let it go.

BTW very juvenile post.

He hasn't been

Thank you for the admission. For whatever reasons, you were talking as if he'd already been charged and convicted of a crime.

No I wasn't. You just have a little trouble with your reading comprehension. That's okay though. I accept your apology in advance.

No I wasn't.
You believe he's innocent?

Precisely. I never said he was charged and convicted with a crime; I said I think he is guilty of one. Have you read Andrew Coyne's article? If so, don't you agree?

No, you were just talking as if he was. It's all right there in black and white. People can choose to believe you, or believe their lying eyes.

Posted (edited)

No, you fool. I was talking as if he had committed one.

But again, have you read Coyne's article? Are you aware of Mulroney's testimony? Do you really believe he hasn't committed a crime? Don't you think the RCMP should be looking into him further?

There is no need to have one more big buisness fall guy..Mulroney will never go to prison - The position is filled - I believe the guys name is Conrad. All of these people know each other. Way back in the Trudeau years - I know of a man that used to dine with the PM..He was an arms dealer - a cocaine king pin - and no one went to prison then - so why should it change...When it comes to making the big bucks there are no honest people..The very nature of the accumulation of wealth in the western world can and will always be based in crimminal activity...established clean crimminals and the lower down dirty ones - that take the fall - or simply get caught - Like dear Lord Black - that they all dis-owned.
