benny Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 (edited) IMO, what Canadians need to do is disengage from the urge to argue with Americans over which system is better. We most certainly should set the record straight when they come up with some of the goofy made up stuff that are nowhere to be found here, but only in the vein of correcting mistakes/lies. Whenever no conscientious American journalists will come to us to verify the "Canadian content" of their advertisements, we should decry only the bad quality of American media. bush_cheney2004 Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 You're not looking hard enough...anyway, I got a cat on insulin tablets...I say to the wife, could we give her to a farmer with a mouse problem...I'm sure the excerise and diet will help. Tablets? Hell, my cat gets two insulin shots per day, and has his own account at the pharmacy. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Jerry J. Fortin Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Yes, but the provinces are far from having such a "problem"....by design....and hence rationing by queue. Do you recommend that the US adopt a similar system just to save taxpayer money? I recommend that you folks decide how to take better care of yourselves. Quote
Bryan Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Manitoba is currently reporting non-emergency MRI waits as many weeks (maximum). http://www.manitoba.ca/health/waittime/diagnostic/mri.html The posted wait times were actually much longer when we got ours. The list is based on triage, it's not a case of just getting in line. If you need it, you get it right now. Quote

benny Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 It is good to see one of our leaders in America defending our health care time after time. By "defending our system" Layton I think gives ipso facto too much credit to this American smear campaign. Quote

Sir Bandelot Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 Dr. Rolando Del Maestro says the lesion Holmes was diagnosed with is benign, and usually slow-growing. It typically does not require urgent attention, he said. "If it's a real emergency in the sense that the patient's visual function is getting substantially worse, the patients would be brought in immediately and would be operated on the next day," he said. U.S. doctors considered the cyst a tumour, and that it would cause death if not removed immediately. But neurosurgeon Michael Schwartz of Toronto's Sunnybrook Hospital says he's never seen or heard of a death from a Rathke's cyst. He told CBC News symptoms can be alleviated if the cyst is drained or part of it removed to take pressure off the optic nerve. "Then the person's vision almost always improves." "If somebody called me about a patient that was losing her vision or had a structural abnormality of the brain I would see them within days." Anti-medicare ad an exaggeration: experts In other words, a balanced response to the needs of the patient. However, being in pain for 6 months is hardly desirable. I suppose once the disease has been diagnosed, appropriate medications can be provided... again much cheaper in Canada. Quote
