...not to mention the situation for homosexuals and other minorities, who actually lived without fear during the saddam years but now they're being discriminated against.

Lived without fear? This is the biggest in your long list of unsubstantiated claims.

the only way the powers (guardian council and revolutionary guards) will feel threatened is if their bank accounts are hit. dubai has, so far, cooperated with monitoring and freezing bank accounts of al quaeda members. they will do the same with these guys. it will be easier since arab countries do not really have a good relationship with persians.

the money these people make through oil and manufacturing keeps them in power. they make sure to give MP's and military commanders a share of the profits in order to keep them in line. business and trade keeps the world going and keeps these selfish men in power. cut off their blood supply and their power will slowly diminish. hopefully the powers in the west don't have too many business dealings with these guys like they do with the saudi and egyptian dictatorships.

uhm. less fear?

the shi'a majority, in general, is not a big fan of homosexuals. they also don't like the sunni's or the kurds or the turks or anyone else who is not shi'a.

No kidding? You mean that the practice of super gluing the anuses of homosexuals wasn't just invented after Saddam fell?

So much for "less fear".....

i'm not sure what your experience is with super glue and anuses, but the point here is that life is a lot shittier in iraq now than it was under saddam.

Bushalliburton only removed those who had wealth---oil...they were not interested in waging war and murder on the poor...because they don't even know they exist.

Freedom to choose one's future is not always perfect but it is freedom and self determination. Under Saddam and sons, things would stay the same with on average, fifty thousand a year being killed by his antics. So, when one thinks of the tens of millions of yet to be born Iraqis that won't have to endure this regime over the next few generations, it makes your argument of immediate gratification mute.

did you know that there was an uprising in iraq in the early 90's against saddam? you know what happened? the US allowed saddam to squash the uprising by giving it a green light to use its military.

i wonder what would have happened if the uprising would have been allowed to go ahead. i wonder if these 50 thousand a year would still have been killed. what about when US sponsored and armed saddam during the 80's? you know, when iraq gassed the kurds and the iranians? i wonder what would have happened if US had not been buddies with saddam.

And how did the US do this? Please describe the "green light" process....a la April Glaspie fiction in Kuwait.

Have you heard? The US has given Denmark the "green light" to attack Canada.

I agree my war mongering friend. We should have pushed onto Baghdad then and brought the present forward sooner.

Have you figures and percentages of how much military aid the US gave Saddam in comparison to other countries Dub?

Saddam did not use US made military equipment. The Iraqi army/navy/airforce circa 1991 was entirely Soviet made. Re: US giving Iraq chemical weapons: never happened. The US and other countries did sell Saddam stuff that he said would be used for civilian purposes...but then were converted to nerve gas, etc. Insecticide being one of the main items...medical samples of anthrax and botulism being another.

Iran did have US made weapons...but, you should know from where.

I'm hoping that Dub is doing some research into this matter as the results will change years of left wing rhetoric into factual information for him. Another surprising eye opener is the fact that the US got more oil from Saddam during the sanctions than they did after the Iraq invasion, even up till now.

So Dub, let us know of your findings of the percentages compared to the world weapon sales to Iraq which the US supplied to Iraq please.

It plays well with folks like duk to believe that the US armed Iraq and then had to fight Iraq. Lefty wet dream. The poison gas claims are also overblown. If the US knew that Saddam was going to convert agricultural and medical supplies into nerve agents, I have yet to see information from reliable sources. I'm sure dud can pull a few rabbits out of a hat if need be...lol.

However, to the hiptards' collective credit, they had reason to believe the worst re: Iraq, seeing yer Iran-Contra Affairs and yer what-nots. It's not like America couldn't be naughty. Just, was it naughty this time?

We also know that, like it or not, Bush ousted a "supreme leader" in Iraq and created a peacful democracy after years of struggle and resistance - supported militarily by the Iranian Supreme Leadeer and his friend Mahmoud Ahmedinejad.

Eh??? I'd have to disagree on that one bigtime.

Twelve years of talk and talk and then the last thing was to invade and, in the process, free fifty million people. Obama will have a difficult time following up these acts of benevolent liberty but, with the troop increases and pledge to not actually leave Iraq, he will try.

I believe in talk, but when talk fails the next step in the process shouldn't be military action. You can do other things, you can play hardball without dropping bombs. The last thing in Iraq was not to invade, they should have continued with inspections. They could have done more than just oust the man on false pretenses while crippling the country in the process.

I think its just a hell of a lot more likely that most people in Iran like most human beings everywhere, just naturally don't hate freedom. Go figure.

As far as Bush goes I think he along with Cheney, Rumsfeld and Powell should be charged with crimes against humanity. Its pretty clear they're no friends of freedom at all.

Amen on both accounts. What's happening in Iran is that the people expect their "democratic" elections to be democratic. We may not even be talking about this and Iran may have been a much more thriving and free democracy if the U.S. didn't lead a coup to oust the democratically elected leader in Iran in 1953 and install the Shah in his place. Oil & self-interests > freedom/democracy.

As for the other, add a few others like Rice & Tenet to the list.

Ha! So when will Canada return Jean Bertrand Aristide to Haiti's presidential palace?

I'm disgusted with the 2004 coup in Haiti and ashamed of Canada's role in it.

Yes, it would have been far better off with a Taraki like government installed courtesy of the Soviet Union. More freedom, more smiles.
