some say that obama's speech in cairo has started a new beginning for the palestinians. some say it's just more words and actions taken by him will reveal his true commitment to ending the palestinians' struggle towards self-determination.

boo hoo!!

the poor palestinians' maybe if they stopped lobbing rockets and sending suicide bombers over to Israel they might have made some progress!!.....these idiots (palestinians) have broken every peace deal ever signed by them!

Interesting that the Palestinians share a border with Jordan - who refuses to open the border as well - that tells me lots about the quality and the caring and the compassion of the Palestinians - their own bretheren do not want them.

If they would settle down and actually come to the table with a true peace in mind it would all come together for them.

Might be a long time before that happens.

Insults are the ammunition of the unintelligent - do not use them. It is okay to criticize a policy, decision, action or comment. Such criticism is part of healthy debate. It is not okay to criticize a person's character or directly insult them, regardless of their position or actions. Derogatory terms such as "loser", "idiot", etc are not permitted unless the context clearly implies that it is not serious. Rule of thumb: Play the ball, not the person (i.e. tackle the argument, not the person making it).

Sadly, I hold out no real hope for Obama, his words have largely been empty.

Dub have you read this piece, it is excellent!

Understanding the smearjob that was done on the Durban Review Conference

"The government of Israel responded to the anti-semitic actions of a few marginal NGOs which participated in Durban by branding the entire WCAR - widely seen as a high water mark in the international battle against racism - as an anti-semitic "hatefest". This became the pretext for Israel and its allies to walk out of the conference in an attempt to prevent Israel's behaviour vis-à-vis the Palestinians as well as other vitally important matters from being addressed.

The U.S. government, which had been adamant in its refusal to address the legacy of the slave trade and the attendant call for reparations long before the Durban conference was convened, seized the opportunity and joined the Israeli walkout. Although the WCAR had to proceed without Israel and the U.S., it was able to produce a ground-breaking document known as the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action (DDPA) that addressed a range of issues rooted in racism and laid out a plan for dealing with them. Following standard practice, the UN set up a review conference to assess the progress made in addressing the

Programme of Action contained in the DDPA. This conference was convened in Geneva in late April.

If you wanna better understanding of the so-called boycott of Durban.

Hmmm ... no links ... and nothing since 2006?

And the point was breaking cease fire/peace agreements, and you have not addressed that.

Israel has broken them all by blockading Gaza and trying to starve them out.

The situation is untenable, and bound to cause a backlash against Israel, and does continually.

Address the real problem.

How committed do you have to be to suicide yourself with explosives - how deseprate - how conered? Not that I agree with such actions - but all I see is people who are terrified of terror mentioning the suicide bombers constantly. Ordinary fanatical indoctrination can explain some of the incidents away - but not all of them. Surely the sheer desperation of an opressed and abused tormented people must stimulate some of them to such drastic actions - Israelis - can take a helicopter and use it as a platform to send death indiscriminately to both civilians - children and those who are real combatants - So already the world has forgotten the last incursion into Palistine - and now Palistine is like a huge concentration camp with a slow bake oven call the sun - and no one weeps for the semites being holocausted there because they are the wrong semites - they are not the flavour of the decade semites - they are not the choosen semites....shame on the world - and shame on the nationalist socialists...in jewish form.

I'm sure they would be happy to switch to Apache Helicopters and Battle Tanks if the USA gave them 2.76 Billion dollars in military aid every year as well...

Not in the slightest as you do not recognize sarcasm - simply pointing out that until the borders of Jordan and Egypt are open there are serious reasons for the country you hate - Israel - to maintain security

You are quite a foolish person in your simplistic ideas

Stop kicking the bee hive - Israel - and strife will end - tomorrow.

Borders will open and peace will come.

Until Hamas and the PA agree to peace between themselves - until Hamas agrees Israel has a right to exist - there wil be no peace. It is far more complex than the innocent, yet superior canadian can imagine

When the rockets and bombs stop falling upon the Jews - peace will happen

If Israel - a democracy that allows muslims full rights including citizenship, voting etc and has muslims serving in her government - were to lay down her arms she would disappear almost over night.

The fact remains the hate from the Arabs is the cause of the trouble - not the other way around

Until you have lived and worked in all the areas discussed - I have - and do this with the eyes of a westerner - you will never have anything more than a weak and uninformed opinion. And of course as a canadian most people only know what they read/see on TV and newspapers - and of course as a canadian they are also usually quite pompous in their attitude

Have a great and uninformed life - enjoy your rose coloured glasses

Finally - off topic - I do believe in the death penalty - not ashamed of that - as many others do as well - a rabid dog - male or female - should always be killed

Israel will never have peace with these Islamic extremist animals.............and they know it!

violence is the only thing Palestinians understand and the Israeli's unlike us here in the west know you have to kill these people there is no reasoning no talking you simply have to crush them! Hamas and the like attack Israel from within populated areas (launching rockets from on top of an apartment building) deliberately trying to get innocent civilians killed when the Israeli's take the launcher out! Israel has no choice.......in the end i believe Israel will be forced one day to initiate it's sampson option likely against Iran and Syria! Anyone who thinks there can be peace with Muslim extremist's is a complete and utter moron! they need to be wiped out to the last scumbag!
