Alright, I gotta admit, I really want to be Ruby Dhalla's nanny... she can abuse me all she wants!

I would be standing there in a leather thong, checking out my superfresh linebeard in the mirror when she cracks the whip, calls me a useless sharmouk and orders me to cook her some curried goat. After dinner the handcuffs would come out...

Better yet, it can be a reality tv show.. compete to be Ruby's nanna! I would win that contest my friends, you not a chance

It is really simple, who want to do it, do it; who don't want to do it, leave and go.

Too many laws, too many tax dollars and time wasted in such meaningless things.

The allegations are not meaningless. To a politician, they are almost vital if they are proved by the investigation. Of course, she has presented her stories. Maybe people needs to see the result of investigation before makes any judgement.

Fast-rising Liberal MP Ruby Dhalla has become entangled in the nanny trap, with allegations two nannies hired to care for her mother were illegally employed and then mistreated.

The nannies also allege Dhalla improperly seized their passports and family members forced them to do non-nanny jobs such as washing cars, shining shoes and cleaning family-owned chiropractic clinics.

Nawh! I did not have a clue who this new and up coming liberal star was - I looked at a photo of Ruby..I can tell a lot by an image...you can tell by the breeding and general demenor - Ruby is an eastern elitist and not an opportunist - give it time and she will have you clean her toilet - she is arrogant and smug - and highly entitled...Do you really want this person having political control over YOU? Liberals create monsters..that's the very nature of maniplatory emotional liberal feel good policy.....Ruby is not nice ....and if she were in her nation of origin - she would need body guards to protect her from being attacked by the poor - those who resent usery.

Well, today, Rudy resigned and she did the right thing unlike two of the Tories guys last year that refused to! Talk about being arrogant... that belongs to the greater part of the Tories! So I guess from now to election day we will hear from the Tories about Rudy and Iggy's tax increases. I REALLY getting sicking topic, when every Tories stand up to answer a question and then throws in Iggy's tax increases.

You can not import a caste structure into Canada via a freshly elected politician - I guess our dear Ruby figured out that the Butto or Amelda Marcos style of rule will not be tolerated - she has to mature and adjust to a better level of social conciousness.. If she truely did resign today - it shows that even a lowly servant can take down a cruel master.....AND - Ruby will be welcomed back in time..once she has a change of attitude and understands this is NOT the sub-continent.

Excuse me Miss Roseanne Roseannadanna, but we are discusing Ruby Dhalla, not some fellow too small to play football.

Dhalla is an overbearing blabbermouth. On political shows like Don Newman and Power Play, she's a motor mouth who just won't shut up.

You wacth her with the sound on?

Why?

I wonder how many other Canadians, when they read this report, thought the same.

If all politics are local, then the true level of politics (in an HD world) is personal. Some people dislike Stephen Harper because he has cold blue eyes; others perceive Michael Ignatieff as a warm, benevolent father-in-law.

Ruby Dhalla is a public personality and so she clearly has a big ego. Does she have anything else?

My MP here in Barrie, Patrick Brown, was apparently involved in a failed scheme to get jobs for immigrants from Korea just prior to his becoming MP. The immigrants paid between $7,000 and $13,400 to an immigration firm called ULSC Immigration Consulting and Mr. Brown was apparently the person in Canada that was supposed to help them get high-paying truck driving jobs. According to an article in the Toronto Star, the jobs 'evaporated' when the Koreans got to Canada. Apparently an immigration consultant named Yolanda Simao picked-up the challenge of getting jobs for the Koreans when Mr. Brown "ceased being part of the picture", and wound up being reprimanded by her professional association. It was in Ms. Simao's disciplinarly file that I read about Mr. Brown's involvement. I guess Mr. Brown was too busy running for office to fufil his obligation to these immigrants? I wonder how much he got paid?

It would have been helpful if the Ontario Liberal MPPs had taken their complaints seriously instead of brushing them off. The fallout of this could be 1 LPC MP and 2 Ontario Liberal MPPs.

I don't expect the Conservatives to be honest or to answer a question without diversion. What this has done is ruined their credibility at a time when they need to deal with a serious matter. Losing her critics role merely means she gets to do less then she already does.

You shouldn't make fun of a serious, tragic crisis like this.

To think that someone in this day and age, and with the privlegaes that woman has, could have human slave labour in her home is just sickening. I could never has a person ever bring myself to abuse other people the way she did. Even on vacation I'll get a drink myself or get my own towels and tell room service not to clean our room.

BUT to trap innocent human slaves, pay them 2.50/h, evade taxes, and withhold passports as a threat.. wow that's just SICKENING.

I doubt she'll bee going to heaven whe nshe dies.

Lol..

So 2 women (and now a third) coming forward mean nothing to you?

What do you think an 'investigation' is going to say? Do you trust what the gov't is goingn to say and do?

2 women came forward and told what happened. I am certainly not going to dismiss their alligations just because they are phillipino.

She has human, slave labour to wash her car and clean her families chiropractor practice workingn 16 hours a day getting paid $2.50 an hour. The nannies lived in fear that they would get sent back home and didn't know who else to go to.

What an awful, dispicablel, thing for a human in the first world to do.

I get chocked up just thinking of how anyone as a human could take advantage of another person like that.

It's like the Dhalla's are barbaric animals IMO.

LOL. That's an understatement madmax. Let's recap. In a public forum, Peter Fonseca, the Ontario Minister of Labour, is apprised of a situation where provincial labour and federal immigration laws may have been breached. What does he do about it?

Fonseca heard the allegations during a meeting with nannies and caregivers in the constituency office of Education Minister Kathleen Wynne, and he told the group that they could call a 1-800 number to access ministry investigators.

http://www.ottawasun.com/news/canada/2009/...377206-sun.html

If media reports are correct, that phone number Fonseca gave to the complaining nannies was not yet in service and would not be for another 2 weeks. No link yet on this detail.

Fonseca was in dereliction of duty and he should answer for it. In addition, these allegations were raised in Kathleen Wynne's riding and she simply let the matter slide. Is this the kind of representation she offers her constituents?

Your Ontario government working for you, eh?

The fallout of this could be 1 LPC MP and 2 Ontario Liberal MPPs.

I don't know if Dhalla is guilty of the accusations against her but I want answers. Fonseca and Wynne have to be brought to account for their mishandling of the nannies' complaints. I heard Bob Fife on Power Play say that the media will not let this matter drop until it is properly disposed of. The Toronto Star is to be commended for their investigative journalism in this sordid affair. There isn't enough of this type of digging done by the media in this country. Good on the Star for shining a light in the dark corners, regardless of how unappetizing are the findings.

Whoa Mikedavid these are allegations. Innocent until proven guilty, remember?

I agree with you that anyone who would treat another human being as chattel and a slave is despicable. Sadly, such situations do exist in our supposed morally superior society. This Dhalla episode serves to bring those travesties to the public's attention. Let's hope Parliament and the Ontario government act quickly to toughen the laws to protect vulnerable care givers from abuse.
