GostHacked Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 See the New Deal, circa 1933. Four years later, recession. Once the government money dries up, so do the temporary jobs. Shady, this problem has been stewing for the past decade it seems. But keep blaming Obama when he can't get the quick fix done. Same with Bush and Iraq, he said it would take time. It is still taking time. Sharkman Stevoh, he's lying. Just like Clinton lied when he said he never had sex with Miss L. But lies are much less of a priority when he's just saddled the US with the biggest spending bill on top of the Bank bailout. The good news is, although the American voter is a sucker for a good public speaker, they will vote with their pocket books when this bill does not work. They are suckers for bad public speakers as well, Bush wanted the bailout bill passed too. And actually, Bush's Bail Out Bill, and Obama's Stimulus package are both being payed for out of the taxpayers pocket book. Where was your rage and disappointment over Bush's even more expensive bail out bill?? CEOs still asking for more money. Some banks have failed since the bail out. Major job loss for the approved mergers between large failing banks. GM and Chrysler asking for more money. Quote
GostHacked Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 LOL and those wanting to have voted McCain/Palin, or wishing they had. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/...pay-back-taxes/ (CNN) – Alaska officials have told Gov. Sarah Palin she must pay back taxes on the thousands of dollars she received in state per diem funds while living at her home in Wasilla. Yep. Quote
stevoh Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 See the New Deal, circa 1933. Four years later, recession. Once the government money dries up, so do the temporary jobs. Ok, so presumably you are referring to the infastructure spending. Interesting that the only piece that directly creates jobs is the one you are opposed to. I agree that the government money will not last indefinitely, but hopefully this recession isn't a decade long affair. I don't think any amount of government "help" could get us all out of that mess. The increased public sector funding is not going to create many new jobs, it is going to retain the current public service sector employment level. This might not seem like a big deal until you see how some states, like California, are planning on dealing with the budget shortfall. Big layoffs coming. I would have thought you supported tax breaks as potential economic stimulus, although I question the value of individual tax breaks during a recession. If my taxes go down by 1000 dollars right now, it doesn't go on new spending, it goes towards debt/savings. Corporate tax breaks I can see at least retaining profitability and employement levels, but if you have no product demand, no amount of tax breaks will help. My personal belief is that tax breaks should occur only during boom times. It helps perpetuate prosperity, it can't reverse a depresssion however. So, back to you, what would you have liked to see in the stimulus package, or do you in fact think we need one at all? Quote Apply liberally to affected area.

And are you deliberately being obtuse? "the governor’s office had asked the office to review the tax treatment of the per diem payments" http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/...pay-back-taxes/ I'll go really slow for those of you on the left. The Governor's office asked for the review of the per diem payments. So far so good? The review was completed. Still with me? And now, a tax bill has been presented. A new tax bill. Not an old one. Not one from last year, or say 8 years ago, and then waited for 4 years to pay, but not in full, only until she was selected for a cabinet position within the new administration. I went pretty fast on the last part, so those of you on the left, you may have to take a few minutes to re-read that part several times. All caught up now? Good. And seeing as tax season is right around the corner, I'm gonna give you guys a big heads up. Unbelievably, Sarah Palin will also receive a tax bill for this past fiscal year, in which she's going to have to pay was well. Quote

Taxes people on the left called her on during the campaign. She would have to pay when she leaves office and it was audited. She however didn't pay it or claim it at the time. Also why doesn't she make it public Shady? Why is it a big secret what and how much she owes? Don't blame you though you voted for Palin right? It's for last year either it is for the last 2 years. She's been told that the per diem needs to be treated as income. She wasn't told that last year, or say four years ago, or say almost a decade ago, like certain cabinet appointees. But, I realize that Palin Derangement Syndrome usually trumps the facts of circumstances. But unfortunately, she's not going to wait four years or longer to decide whether or not she pays her taxes. So she won't be qualified to accept a future Obama cabinet position, if one becomes available. Quote
Smallc Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 She's been told that the per diem needs to be treated as income. She wasn't told that But should she have known? If she were a Democrat, you would be saying that she should have. Quote

Shady Posted February 19, 2009 Author Report Posted February 19, 2009 We certainly didn't hear about her not paying taxes before the election. Because, there wasn't any taxes for her to pay before the election. It's pretty straightforward. Anyways, stop hijacking my Obama tax cheat thread. President Obama worked very hard to appoint several tax cheats to several cabinet positions, and I don't think he'd appreciate you stepping all over his hard work. After all, some of his appointees also worked very hard, to not pay their taxes for several years, even after being notified by the IRS. Hope n change. Quote

Over what period? If it was over the last 18 months she had taxes to pay, they just weren't assessed yet, like Obama's appointments. So you are telling me the per deim charges only occurred during election? I don;t think it is a big issue and I am glade she is going to pay the taxes the dailykos pointed out during the campaign. I am more interested on what she charged the state for. Quote
emma Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 One of Scott Murphy's companies, Small World Software, incurred three tax liens for failure to pay taxes, interest and penalties. More than nine years later, two liens are still outstanding. Murphy claims that the new ownership of the business was responsible for the warrants, but documents show that Murphy was, in fact, responsible for the liens, either as the company’s owner or as Chief Operating Officer of the very company (iXL, Inc.) where Murphy tries to place the blame. Tax Warrant #1: $446.85 (outstanding) * Prior to its merger with iXL, Scott Murphy’s company, Small World Software, paid its withholding taxes for the tax period ending Dec. 31, 1997, 13 days late, and failed to pay penalty and interest on this late payment. This tax warrant for 446.85 in penalty and interest has remained unpaid for more than nine years. Tax Warrant #2: $298.50 (outstanding) * This warrant was issued for corporate taxes on Small World Software from calendar year 1997. The company which purchased Small World Software, and in which Scott Murphy remained as COO, paid these taxes almost three months late, and was issued a warrant on the unpaid penalty and interest. This warrant has also remained unpaid for more than nine years. Tax Warrant #3: $20,805.25 (satisfied) * This warrant was for sales tax for a three-month period which included a time before Small World’s merger with iXL. The tax warrant for unpaid taxes, penalty and interest was filed more than a year after the taxes were due. The company in which Scott Murphy was COO paid the taxes, penalty and interest more than a year late and satisfied the lien. Murphy has tried to pass on his fiduciary responsibility. "Murphy said in a subsequent statement that, while he did work for the company that bought Small World Software, he did not have 'responsibility for things like taxes and filing various forms with the government.' " To date, Scott Murphy has failed to accept responsibility for his business's tax liens – two of which are still outstanding. Quote
