BigAl Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Perhaps...but still 44% of the Volk voted National Socialist in the 1933 elections.---------------------------------------------- Die Straße frei den braunen Bataillonen. True, but as my grandfather is wont to say, after almost twenty years of depression, the situation in Germany was desperate enough that they would have elected the Devil himself -- and, he says, they sort of did. Besides, it's not as though Hitler got elected on the basis of the "let's kill all the minorities" bill. It wasn't exactly something he made a point of mentioning. Quote
eyeball Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 I'm always amazed by people who hold conflicting and erroneous ideas simultaneously. So long as you continue to edit things out that don't conform to your view of things you'll likely always be amazed. That's not exactly a state of mind that denotes a high level of comprehension. I guess you have no choice but to disagree with both people's having been the subject of discrimination and indifference, otherwise you'd be in conflict with your oft-stated position that there were no people of any account worth mentioning occupying the land where the country now called Israel was created. M.Dancer Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 ...., otherwise you'd be in conflict with your oft-stated position that there were no people of any account worth mentioning occupying the land where the country now called Israel was created. I'm sure if it is oft stated you will have no problem finding it except perhaps that having two opposing ideas that your simultaneously agree with might make it difficult to formulate a search criteria that makes any sense.... Both have been the subject of discrimination...who discriminate against Palestinians and why is a question best answered by those who do.....other arabs. Your specious comparison of Palestinians and european jews shows that your comprehension isn't just unusually high, it's completely zonked aand blasted. bush_cheney2004 Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 I'm a firm believer that the sins of the father should not be passed to the son. Hence, for example, why I'm willing to give the American people the benefit of the doubt despite the eight years' worth of war crimes perpetrated by their recent government.... I agree...after the present generation of Canadian war criminals is dead, we can move on. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
DogOnPorch Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 (edited) True, but as my grandfather is wont to say, after almost twenty years of depression, the situation in Germany was desperate enough that they would have elected the Devil himself -- and, he says, they sort of did. Besides, it's not as though Hitler got elected on the basis of the "let's kill all the minorities" bill. It wasn't exactly something he made a point of mentioning. I agree. Hitler actually kept the anti-Jewish rhetoric to a dull roar until after 1933. Then the campaign started out fairly slowly with Jewish shop boycotts and business restrictions. Then came Kristallnacht in 1938... After that it was almost a race to leave...those that could. Oddly, though, many German secular Jews and half-Jews, et al, thought Hitler couldn't possibly be refering to them...they were good Germans. They thought that the Nazis were refering to the barbarian hordes in the East...no? Poor buggers...they lasted until 1941-42-ish as a general group. Those that left in 1939-1940 had a difficult time...and some got caught up in war. But generally they got away by various means...the SS St Louis perhaps being a good example of this. On that ship, it depended where you got let off after the return to Europe as to whether you survived or not. England = Great; France = So-so; Holland = Death. Germany = Ditto. --------------------------------------------------- The German people are very proud people, and as far as the Jews were concerned we were Germans - we were good Germans of Jewish religion. ---Hannah Deutch: ex-Dusseldorf resident Edited January 29, 2009 by DogOnPorch Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
eyeball Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Both have been the subject of discrimination...who discriminate against Palestinians and why is a question best answered by those who do.....other arabs. Who or why is moot, its the experience that matters. Discrimination is like abuse, if it feels like its happening it is and I'm pretty certain just about anyone who has ever experienced either will tell you that. The fact both know what discrimination feels like could be something they can begin to base a solution on. Shared pain of a similar experience seems like a natural place to approach the problem from, amongst others. Why anyone would want to dash even that tiny sliver to pieces is just downright trying to be counterproductive. Its like vandalism but worse.
