As far as Rae goes, does he still have the same beliefs on the economy?

A lot of people think it would be too much of a gamble to find the answer to that question.

Of course when this happened to Biden, the neo-cons went nuts.

Obama also dabbled in plagiarism. I don't see that hurting him in popularity.

I'd assume it was because the Liberals found that it would be too damaging. But I'm pretty certain he hasn't changed his pro-torture viewpoints.

That is your right. You seem ready to believe what Harper has to say on Afghan withdrawal though. Did you believe in fixed election dates as well. Think I was the only one here saying there would be no confidence vote and that Harper would call an election himself.

Yes that's why New Democratic/Liberal MP Bob Rae brought this up.

Think it was to emphasize that the Conservatives take their lead from Howards and the Bushes of the world. Word for word, it seems.

Meh, I find Harper to be better suited to be PM. His mantra doesn't soley consist of bashing the United States all the time. But I will say this about Harper if had to choose between buying our soldiers flak vests or giving increased funding to Young People Fucking, I have full confidence in him funding our soldiers. The same can't be said of the Liberal Party who openly despise our military and whenever looking for cuts will always look to the Defence budget first.

I think we have seen clear evidence that Harper overspends on everything. His little art cuts were to show his base that he cuts. What is really showed is that he likes to pick and choose and bases arts even when his wife attends said galas.

I doubt it, more or less because we wouldn't have the resources to be in Iraq. His position was probably closer to the Swedish Liberal Peoples Party which stated open moral support for the coalition, and we might have provided some economic aid to help with the building of Iraq.

Utter baloney. He said nothing about Canada not having the resources till long after the war started. In fact, he said Canada did have the means to send a force. Posted the links a couple of times.

Are you talking about the withdrawal date which was set at 2011. All that's happening is that the lionshare of troops will leave the country, however we'll still have a contingent to continue training the Army and Police.

Probably not, more or less because Canada at the time didn't have the military equipment or resources to go to Iraq.

Can we believe anything he says on the deadline? Is this the same deadline as the fixed election?

Liberal leadership candidate Stephane Dion's campaign hastily changed part of the candidate's environmental platform as posted on his Web site today after a blog reported that part of it were almost identical copies - without attribution - of a David Suzuki Foundation paper published the previous week.

Mr. Dion plans to formally unveil his $10-billion energy and climate change plan later today, but he has already been trumpeting his "Clean Air Plan" since Sept. 1 on his Web site.

The plan carries striking similarities to a paper published one week earlier on Aug. 25 by the David Suzuki Foundation, entitled "The Air We Breath."

Yet, prior to this morning, Mr. Dion's paper was not crediting the Suzuki Foundation as a source for the plan. After the issue was raised by the bloggers, a small footnote was put on the Web site to say that the Suzuki report was one of the sources for the Dion platform.

Huh, the horror. Stephane Dion should immediatley be "expelled."

Either way the Liberals should immediately give up their name, so a party that actually supports liberalism could take up the mantle. This actually comes from Boris Johnson, but I think we can change a few words that would perfectly describe the current Liberal Party under Dion:

Stephane Dion incarnates all the nannying, high-taxing, high-spending schoolmarminess of the Liberal Party. Dion is the high priest of our paranoid, mollycoddled, risk-averse, airbagged, booster-seated culture of political correctness and 'elf 'n' safety fascism

You're right. I should qualify my comment by saying lots of people outside Toronto the good would not want to take a chance on his financial acumen. Yes he was elected but the team he was part of was not.

Probably why no one is proposing a financial portfolio for him. Think he is not qualified elsewhere?

Conservative strategist Tim Powers on MDuffy today mentioned that years back Bob Rae was involved in some plagiarism???? He didn't elaborate, but Liberal strategist Sheila Copps counter-acted by saying "Oh that's different!"

So from Sheila Copps reaction, there's some grain of truth into what Tim Powers alleged about Bob Rae.

Anyone know about that?

Btw, the ad of the Liberals that asks...."DO YOU WANT MORE OF THIS?"

Somehow it strongly reminds me of the Obama ad. If I'm not mistaken the Obama ad asks, "DO YOU WANT MORE OF THE SAME?"

As for pure plagiarism, Harper's speech contains only five sentences coinciding word-to-word with John Howard's phrases. One sentence differs with presence of "the"article. This is not a big deal for 97-sentence political speech.
I happen to think that there's something cute about a Canadian PM "plagiarizing" an Australian PM's speech. I sometimes wish more of our PMs did it.

Harper has often stated that he admires Howard and invited him to Canada as one of the first head of government visits. Harper and Howard agree on many issues (and I think Harper should "plagiarize" Howard's gun control legislation).

----

Anyway, the Liberals got Bob Rae (not Ignatieff of course since Ignatieff also supported the invasion of Iraq at the time) to announce this tidbit some FIVE years after the fact. At the time, Harper wasn't PM and he wasn't even leader of a the Conservatives.

The purpose of this exercice is to accuse once again Harper of being in bed with those awful, dishonest, despicable Americans. Well, Rae has caught Harper in bed with... an Australian.

No, you are OK with being a charter member of NATO and the UN. Or are you proposing that Canada should leave both organizations?

Nope, for some unbeknownst reason, even after those vicious attacks (with WMD and ballistic missiles, remember?) neither NATO solidarity, nor legitimacy of the UN had been invoked. Why? I wonder.... All had to be done by us, solely and alone, poor, threatened and prosecuted ones... (and then, of course, whatever buddies could be handtwisted into it ... not for real, granted, more as a show of solidarity - or in the hope of a prompt payback maybe, like that Georgia, honourable #3 till recent highly regrettable misadventure).

But help is near.. If only Harper hangs around long enough for the next adventure, what's there next on the liberation agenda?

If it's you or them, the truth is equidistant

That, plus it also diverts from media reports that Ontario's Minister of Finance did not endorse the Liberal Green Shift plan.

The Liberals found themselves dealing with more friendly fire.

Ontario's Finance Minister Dwight Duncan, a Liberal, when asked about Dion's Green Shift and carbon tax said "what would be a mistake right now, would be massive shifts in tax burdens at a time when there is (economic) uncertainty."

PM Harper did not bomb Serbia, and he did not invade Haiti...but Canada sure did, eh?

Reprise: What a pathetic lot that would first scream "NO" to invading Iraq only to shrivel back to Bush "victim" status when their "YES" decisions come home to roost.

Come on people it's obvious that Harper is in bed with John Howard.

The Liberals better start highlighting the obvious evil acts committed by this Conservative-Liberal like government.

PS: John Howard was the leader of the Australian Liberals. However for some reason Dion kept on talking about how Harper was in bed with the Republicans despite the fact said speech came from the head of the Australian Liberals.

Think the high spending moniker belongs to Harper who has blown past his promise not to do it every budget.

I think you need to look at the difference between plagiarism and trademark infringement.

I happened to disagree with the use of the name but it wasn't uncited use of someone else's work.

In any event the issue of infringement was settled.

No, the difference is that Harper spends on things like border security, national defence, and law enforcement. Whereas the Liberals will cut funding to law enforcement and the CBSA, deplete our armed forces once again and make our military a laughingstock on the world, while at the same time massively increase funding to the CBC, Young People Fucking, and special interest groups. Then to top it all off will institute another ridiculous gun control law that will more than likely eat up hundreds of millions of dollars once again.

That being said I prefer the government who ensures our soldiers, border guards, and police officers have proper equipment to do their job and defend themselves as compared to the government that will deny funding because they don't want to look like the "despicable Americans."

Who was in bed with Bush.

Yes, and I've noticed many Liberals openly despise the coalition of the willing and the Kurdish people fighting for democracy in the north of Iraq. Needless to say if I have to choose between putting my moral support with a coalition made up of liberal democracies or supporting the Hussein family I will always choose the former.

Maybe promoted to chief speechwriter.

Irony alert.....That will have to wait until after the elections, and he'll have to use a "nom de plume" to mask his identity. Man those Conservatives are underhanded.....Irony off.

Sorry. Not true.

I didn't even include defence or aboriginal affairs in the overspending.

According to the Tories themselves they have increased arts funding. They have increased funding everywhere.

Citation for this despise?

This is the typical Tory rebuttal that Liberals support terrorism and that Iraq was responsible for September 11. Sorry, they weren't.
