And that's exactly the attitude that should awaken those out here to seperation.

You really just don't get it, do you? Not interested in the numbers because that's not what's relevant to "superiority". But while we're on the topic, thanks for demonstrating why the Prairies are a colony and just how well they fulfill that role. Seperation is a non-issue, something that only a few hotheads really even consider a viable option. Nobody over here in Ontario really gives a hoot about that kind of rhetoric.

Actually, I think it would be fitting to rename our holiday to reflect our superiority over our colonies to the west...

I'm sure this was meant tongue in cheek... yes?

I don't know of anyone who shares this mentality.

I would have prefered March 18th as a holiday. I find I ususally take the day after St Patrick's off...

The argument for NOT making Remembrance Day a holiday makes sense: people would just consider it another day-off. It's fine the way it is, but I think that the real problem that has to be addressed is how the world wars are dealt with in history classes.

It is a day that has a special significance in our history just like Canada Day and is not considered just another day off for most people in the provinces which observe it. I suspect that its falling between Thanksgiving and Christmas plus the fact it occurs on a specific date therefore not guaranteeing a long weekend is closer to the real reason it is not observed everywhere. Not altogether surprising considering how many Canadians subscribe to the "our traditional role is peacekeeping" mythology so common in this country.

I enjoyed family day in ON, I spent it with my family!

no shopping necessary. we already have every other day for that.

how much shopping does anyone really need to do anyway?

:) over all 2 thumbs up!

Insults are the ammunition of the unintelligent - do not use them. It is okay to criticize a policy, decision, action or comment. Such criticism is part of healthy debate. It is not okay to criticize a person's character or directly insult them, regardless of their position or actions. Derogatory terms such as "loser", "idiot", etc are not permitted unless the context clearly implies that it is not serious. Rule of thumb: Play the ball, not the person (i.e. tackle the argument, not the person making it).

I believe the auto-workers don't get off because they already get a lot more holidays like Remembrance Day and SPA days than the rest of Canadians is it not? Then I think they should stop whining about it.

Also, RE: Family Day, I think it was more of a day to balance Ontario's holidays with other provinces right?

Nice discussion though. Thanks guys.

PS. My relatives are very happy with McGuinty on this issue which is interesting. I think Remembrance Day should be a public holiday.

I can remember in the good old days when every Sunday was family day.

But of course it was the province that destroyed Sunday as family day and with Mc.Guinty trying to justify a single day of the year as family day is a slap in the face to all families who should at least be entitled to one day a week to be with their families.

You dont mention that , when Sunday was a family day, the city would put locks on the swings so no sense in taking the kiddies to the park.

Heck, you could have taken them to a movie.....no wait, no movies on Sunday.

No booze available either, outside the home.

You could enjoy a half hour of Tiny Talent Time on CHCH , but beyond that and Ed Sullivan, Sundays were a day to endure including the indoctrination known as sunday school....ugh.

Yea....it was so much fun.

I was going to point out earlier that "family day" is not a day off for most women who are mothers or grandmothers. On the contrary it is ususally a day full of cooking and cleaning up after family members.

In today's world where most moms and grandmoms work this is simply unfair, imo.

Not our 'grandma'. She rules her kitchen. She loves preparing a big spread for the family. She revels in having the generations around her. Being able to feed the great gradchildren gives her a sense of worth. Most elderly people get great satisfaction still being able to do something for the family. It's not work for them. My sisters are the same. There's always too much food as everyone pitches in with home baking and salads.

Four generations of girls squealing and laughing in the kitchen is Grandma's heaven on earth.

At this point in our country's history, the only field in which Ontario is "superior" is in the number of MPs in the House of Commons.

Considering the state of federal politics in this country, I'm not entirely sure that's something to brag about.

I am adding my voice to those who say this should be a federal holiday. I mean, come on. It's February for Chrissakes! Give us a break!

Indeed. The stretch between New Years and Easter is too long between stat holidays.

Ontario businessmen miffed at joining the 4 western provinces in having 9 statutory holidays rather than 8 should keep in mind that our neighbors in the haven of capitalism to the south of us have 13 statutory holidays.

huh? If you're saying that many working mothers have more than their fair share of household chores, then I suspect you're probably right.

But how does that make a holiday worse than any other day?

Kimmy -- I should have clarified -- I meant Sundays before stores were open then.

(see what happens when one posts in a hurry! LOL)

I was actually alluding to the fact that people who want stores closed on Sundays and think that it's a "family day" clearly don't know how much work women had to do. "Family Day" means mom cooks a big meal while dad and the kids go sledding or play road hockey.

I would love to see along weekend in February as it's such a long stretch to Easter. But you can bet that I won't be slavin' in the kitchen! I be playin' a new computer game or sumpthin fun like that. ;)

Looks like family days are doomed and real women are becoming harder and harder to come by or maybe it is just the fault of the system and Mc.Guinty must be hallucinating.

I'm a real woman. I have a vagina and boobies and everything!

Yes it's harder and harder to find slaves these days innit. So learn to take care of yourself already. Geeez.

This post is worthless without.... ahh nevermind.

Breast and a vigina? - certainly not the modern mutant that either has one or the other. Family day was real cozy - but hypocritical when all policy grates against family as we use to know it...it's a nice idea but how can you take it seriously? Take a snoop into a family court and you will find it should be called anti-family court. Family day is a joke - but maybe not..a single aging female with a single aging cat that has it's own place mat is considered family - so is one man and a dog that when dognapped is willing to hand over 15 thousand in ransom - THAT'S CONSIDERED FAMILY - a hormone depleated rich gay couple with an adopted black child stolen from the poor family is considered family - family day is an insult to families - the real kind.

Just couldn't pass this one up.

What exactly is a real woman?

You really do know the most unusual people Oleg. I don't know of anyone who fits this description. As for the guy offering the reward, has it ever occurred to you that the dog may just be the only family this guy has? I don't see whats wrong with offering a reward for the return of someone you love deeply.

The first part of your post, well, frankly I don't know of any women who have Vigina's, where do you meet these most unusual women?
