  1. Hmmm... mosquitos...huh? I sense opportunity... *Technocrat quickly runs out and buys all the shares of mosquito repellant companies he can* Ill take em... As far as the NDP has run every province into the ground statement... I think that can be said for every party in every province. The Liberals, NDP and most notably the Conservatives(Mike Harris F'd us good) have all run this province into the ground at one point or another. That said IMHO a minority liberal government with a NDP ally is the best thing for this country. Im not a huge fan of the NDP... they are a little to close to some unions which is unfortuante. But they have a vision for canada moves Canada in a direction that I am happy with. I cannot say the same about the Conservative party. The only vision of canada I see coming from the right is a more Americanized canada... which is unfortunate the 'progressive' part of the conservatives has evidently gone the way of the Dodo I don't think i would want a full on NDP government until they have sat in the official opposition spot for at least a few years. There is a component of the NDP that is rather crazy hippy like that im not so sure they are quite up to the tast of full on governance yet... however I think Jack Layton is moving the NDP towards offering the NDP as a real choice for governance.
  2. 1. Theory of Evolution is based on SCIENCE... non-theocratic dribble. Sure its a theory it hasn't been 100% proven... but go ask geneticist or biologists how much creationism helpt them with their work. 2. WTF is pro-atheistic/pro-agnostic/pro-humanistic? And why should it be banned? I have to deal with christian crazies every day when i drive past the hospital. 3. The Liberal party was democratically elected. Their leader may be catholic but he understands that religion and politics DO NOT MIX AND SHOULD NOT MIX. There is a separation of church and state, and it will stay that way. 4. Eliminating pro-gay commercials? What commercials are pro-gay? I see tonnes of commercials that are pro-hetero. *Cough* Beer Commercials *Cough* Weather you like it or not gay people happen to be a productive part of our society and are entitled to the same rights as everyone else. No more, no less. 5. YES YES Lets bring up the LEFT WING BIAS again... *Cough* Bullshit *Cough* However study after study has shown that this 'left media bias' is utterly false. However the 'right' seems to have a particular distain for academic work... because after all time and time again it proves them wrong. However you can go sing your merry little slogan of liberal bias, just remember this... repeating a lie enough will never make it come true.
  3. I think this sort of equation spells out exactly why our healtcare system is having problems. Just because someone is in a senior management position does not mean that they are a good manager or worth the money. These are NOT private institutions. Hospitals are also NOT businesses, they are supposed to deliver quality health care services not turn a profit. The education you receive from a business degree & an MBA have little true application to a hospital setting (I have both B.COM & MBA). 'Proffesional managers' aka Technocrats (ahh I love my handle) are ill suited for administering specialized services such as health care. With my training I could create thousands of useless documents on operations management and cost reports... none of which would have a direct impact on improving health care delivery to the patients. IMHO hospitals should be run by a panel of elected Doctors, Nurses, Technicians and other hospital support staff. Each elected from within by the employees and each being represented on an executive board. These board members should have access to some management consultants as to guide them with some of the administration duties. The board would meet on a regular basis and each member would assume a presidential role on a rotating basis. I think this would vastly improve the dynamic between hospital staff and lead to improvements in the delivery of health services. Improvements that would be directly benifitial to patients. Most employees are not given enough credit about their knowledge of their work environment. This is largely to do with the current top down management approach, as it justifies the inflated saleries of managers and devalues important feedback and input from employees. What I propose is by no means a perfect system, I do however beleive that it would lead to improvements in how our health care is deleivered and give the taxpayers a better bang for their buck. /2 cents. btw I did not perform a spell or grammar check... this is a political forum not english class so no lame comments plz.
  4. My answer... 2... thats right baby i had 2 pcs in 1979... w00t whats my prize? I couldn't agree with you more... as a technocrat myself i know how much BS is pushed and created just for the sake of it. Here in London the hospitals have gone through 3 name changes in the past 5 years costing untold millions for no reason other then to justify administrative positions. Here is another one i can't figure out... the Head of the LHSC(London Health Science Center) makes almost HALF A MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR!!! Can someone explain to me WHY in the hell we are paying hospital administrators MORE then the freakin PRIME MINISTER!?!? I have heard the argument that its the going rate for executives... I call bullshit. I am sure you an find people to fill those positions for far less then half of what they are paying them now. I find it difficult to beleive that a hospital Admin making half a million/year works harder then an ER Nurse working 12 hour shifts and making 10% of what the administrator makes. That my friends is just plain wrong.... call me a socialist call me a commy but when it comes down to it... I think the pay inequity is almost criminal.
  5. Well looks like microsoft has proven again that it cares more for money then for people. BBC News Tech Story
  6. Beleive me im no fan of the US administration or the war... but usuing those images with that sort of caption cheapens the lives of all. Don't use death and destruction for political gain... that is tasteless. War is tasteless i agree... i have seen those images before without the captions and they show the true brutality of war... but with the captions they create a disconnect. IMHO the captioned pictures are a terrible way to acheive the goals clearly set by their creator. Propaganda by either side is still propaganda... a true evil upon itself.
  7. Git out yer torches kids were gunna have a good ol fashion linchin' Humulka has little to do with politics... its all in the legal relm and should stay there... lets let this thread die

  10. Forgive my forgetfulness but does anyone remember the report on healthcare that was quite extensensive a few years ago? I can't remember the authors name, and right now im too busy to look it up. Anyhow the conclusion was that private healthcare is no more effecient then public services. If and when there are 'savings' they get translated into profit not better service. If someone could dig that up... im sure it would help people understand the issue a little better.
  11. children children... keep your panties on now... discuss don't belittle
  12. It wasn't me... it was the one armed man. r[ === ]::::::::::::{D<~--------------- some one has been into the wacky tabaky again
  13. IMR do you actually think its 'moral' to protect people doing 'immoral/illegal' acts? There is a reason why we have whistleblower legislation. If more people broke the code of silence i can see some benificial things happening, powerful bodies becomming more accountable to the people they serve... hmmm sounds mighty democratic to me.
  14. You guys clearly have not gone to school. If you had you would have found that there is a large difference between being book smart and being smart. Go to school and get yourself an edumacation
  15. LOL Please sir i want some more
  16. this guy is a sexist pig anyways... he got in some pretty deep over some of his past comment but they never got picked up outside of london. Frankly i don't like the guy and never have... so if he wants to go run with the jeebas crowd... and fight a lost war let him, he won't be getting re-elected.
  17. good lord... thats a great way to kill an economy. Can you imagine how screwed they would be? I can't see how this is good for a society when you essentially tax motor vehicles to the point where only the elite can afford full freedom of mobility. Taking money out of peoples pockets does not seem like the proper solution. Providing a proper alternative to the automobile may help. But Britain has vast suburban areas, city planners are responsible for this mess and the funny thing is it should have been totally forseeable... Its time to note that cities to remain functional must built up instead of just out.
  18. The main difference between canada and the US as far as due process goes is just sheer scale. We held people in canada without charge and a lack of 'due process' on this sketchy little thing called a 'security certificate'. Its intelligence agancies like CSIS and the CIA that have the real lack of 'due process' as if there was any due process for their suspects people would realize that the intelligence organizations pose a real and substantial democratic threat to the people they are supposed to protect. IMHO withholding evidence for reasons of 'national security' is complete hogwash... as is being revealed by the Arar case. If a goverment is truly 'for the people' why is there any need for secrecy? CSIS is a bunch of old currupt RCMP agents that have watched too many Bond fliks and suffer from a longstanding bout of paranioa. btw didn't spell check
  19. the toronto star and a interesting article on Grewal... he has a pretty shady past of taping people and trying to screw them later because of it. Not exactly what i would call an honorable guy. If you seached the toronto star im sure you would find it... this is the title but i don't have access to the page so if someone does plz post the contents its REALLY REALLY interesting. Has he had his finger on the record button before? 2005-06-04 01:00:00 [Weekend]
  20. The problem is that 'foreign aid' is a complete BS word in of itself. The money sent is rarely used in a truly effective mannor because of a lack of organizational controls to enure that on a base level its distributed in an effective mannor. The best foreign aid programs that I have ever encountered are ones that involve 'micro loans'. This is essentially money distributed at extremely low or non-existant interest rates to be paid back over a very long time. What this does is allow small scale economies to be built at local levels that directly benifit communities. I.e. Loans rarely exceeds $500 and is gaurenteed by another organization, so if the person getting the loan cannot for whatever reason pay it back they are not out of their house and home. The loan application must demonstrate that at some level the people will benifit from it and that it will generate a money flow. This is in stark contrast to INF and WB systems that favor attempting to build an economy on a macro level(and btw have so far failed miserably). As far as the tsunami(sp?) regions they have no shortage of money or supplies, the problem is that their governments are to slow, inept and effecient to direct the rebuilding effort and distribution of money. Just throwing money at problems is hardly a solution, although it sometimes does make you feel all warm and squishy...
  21. naw... he needs more time... he is still a n00b. And he needs time to build up a track record... as of right now i know alot of former PC's that are awfully angry with him.
  22. lol... In the grand scheme of this this is a dead issue. Nothing really happened of any real consequence. How about we drop this whole stupid thing and put our collective efforts into something constructive. spelling and grammar may be off... well past midnight
  23. Are you from London?! Just curious.
  24. LOL WELL WELL WELL WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE? HMMM DOCTORED TAPES AS VERIFIED BY FORENSIC AUDIO EXPERTS!!!! Nothing like editing something to suit your own needs. No one comes out looking good on this one except of course the Bloc and the NDP. Jack Layton's looking better every day. CPC blew any credibility they had now... i'd like to see em explain this one.
