  1. Calling for someones death is hardly free speech. As the media owner of a chritian broadcasting network and a host of a tv show that reaches millions of people everyday, hardly qualifies one as a 'private citizen'. Especially when said comments were not made in private but on the public airwaves. My question is where are the Media Regulators on this one??? Janet Jakson's boob is hardly as vile as calling for a national leader to be killed. Im sensing hipocracy or at least some supremely misplaced priorities. boobehs = bad death threats = acceptable? seems kindof odd...
  2. At a time like this I Like to think... Who Would Jesus Assasinate? Man oh man... Pat Robertson is the worst of the worst as far as the christian crazies go. Guys like him are no better then Osama and morally... not to far off. Lets face it, they both preach violence, are fundamentalist (both pretty much bastardise the crap out of islam and christianity), they both use their vast wealth to promothe their narrow hateful religious views. Pat hasn't quite hit the super star terrorist level (granted... or directly killed anyone)... but if he keeps this crap up... he might find himself there. He has consistantly promoted the destruction of the islamic holy sites in isreal... I mean this is one messed up hatred insighting cookie. Can you imagine any other talk show host saying something like that. Think what would happen if Opera said Tony Blair should be assasinated. What a messed up world. (I admit some of what is said is a stretch... but terrorism needs to be recognized on both sides)
  3. Is this cavemanspeak for "Me want more Mammoth?"
  4. He said EFFECTIVELY ... not ARE a monopoly. Firms in a Olgopoly situation can collude and act as a monopoly... the point I think Mr Layton was trying to make. (lol mirror you beat me in posting )
  5. lol Asshat my favourite flame On Topic... If you don't want to read his posts then don't... if he starts a threat... it will say so. Just avoid them if you must.
  6. Why not... slap a huge export duty on gas and oil... then maybe... maybe the US might start doing something about softwood lumber... which has been going on for how many years... and the US has lost at every turn. At some point we have to stop being the US's Bitch and stand up for ourselves... decreasing the supply of oil to the states will surely get their attention and get the oil lobby on the side of canada for softwood. It may not be perfect but think how many thousands of jobs and billions of dollars we have lost so far on softwood. The US needs to know that trade agreements work both ways.
  7. I read a magazine called the economist does that count Argus wins the asshat award... GJ you win a cookie Perhaps your post should have read. "I don't know anything... I pretend to... but I don't... so I’ll make a comment presuming that because I took economics 101 I know more then everyone else in the world in regards to economics. I’m going to be arrogant just for the sake of it... I like pretending I know things... because I so rarely get to feel smart." In regards to the topic of the post… $65 a barrel is great for the oil companies and all those involved in it. However for your average Canadian will suffer due to higher oil prices. As fuel input prices increase, transportation of input goods and finished goods will increase, this cost increase to maintain target profit levels a company will either have to endure a lower profit margin on each good sold or the increase in cost will be transferred to consumers in the form of higher prices. A great example of this is airline ticket prices; as the price for aviation fuel increases so do the ticket prices. Of course there are other factors such as price elasticity to consider and the ability to switch to alternate technologies... if the price increases to a certain level where the adoption of a new technology becomes beneficial (ie. hydrogen fuel cells for example) then eventually the price for oil may stabilize and fall as demand for oil decreases as the adoption of a new technology/alternate fuel takes place (long run). Economics is a guessing game at best... ask my economist brother. (I will add more to this later after I get some sleep and I can check over what I have written when I’m not about to smash my face into my keyboard due to lack of sleep... I will change topics for now and come back to this later) Most industry analysts that actually look at the numbers will tell you that the current price for oil is incredibly inflated. Many OPEC countries have been building up massive reserves to try to offset the price increases and demonstrate that there is still an incredibly supply of oil in the world. The other thing that many analysts ignore... especially the doomsayers is that while the known supply of light crude stocks may have past peak levels... technologies have been developed to extract oil from other sources... think Alberta... tar sands. Projecting commodity prices 15 years into the future is extremely difficult and amounts to guessing. All that said... Canada does have a vast wealth in natural resources... and in this manner we are extremely lucky, and are likely to benifit greatly from this over time.
  8. Actually our dollar has risen in value by over 25% in just over 2 years. (Its not low). Free trade? Umm no... free trade should mean that more production is comin from overseas. The plants are being opened because the feds and the ontario government chipped in a crapload of money, the workers productivity is some of the highest levels in the world and the plant will be located amongst many other smaller auto parts plants so JIT production and logistics is perfect in that area.
  9. Well, thanks for popping in at least. That was a terrific message. -k <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I couldn't agree more
  10. I hate to break it to all the christians out there but marrige did not begin with christ or christianity. Christianity is what about 2000 years old MAX. Humans have been getting 'married' in one form or another thousands of years previous to that. Therefor the institution of marrige is not in the religious domain as it was prevelant long before the modern organized religions that we know today even existed. Come back to reality, take a class on ancient history or anthropology... you can learn a thing or two. Ignoring thousands of years of history only highlights the current ignorance of the past.
  11. I hope those responsible are brought to justice, I trust that this will happen. OK not trying to sound like a complete ass but September 11 2001 is now refered to as 9/11 right. Any takers on what this will be refered to? My money is on double 07 for 07/07/05... im just waiting for the media to pick that one up. yeah its a lame james bond reference but then the media can refer to the terrorist attacks in a neat little package 9/11 & 007, although this didn't happen in the madrid bombings so i guess we shall see.
  12. Sigh... another pointless thread
  13. What the F’ing hell is wrong with all you anti-Ontario Albertans huh?... Do you suffer from some form of deranged penis envy? So far the arguments in this thread can be summed up by schoolchildren arguing like this A-'Alberta is the best' O-'Nuh uhhh' A-'Is to' O-'No its not' A-'Yes it is my daddy says so' O-'your daddy is inbred' A-'yeah well at least my dads not a homo' O-'shut up' A-'no you shut up' O-'You first' A-'No you first' Anti- Albertan Ontarians need to grow up in a big way too... there are many here that suffer from this childish affliction as well. Each province has their merits and drawbacks. Each has their place in Canada and confederation. I am going to have to agree with some of the posters that a retarded monkey could balance the books in Alberta right now. So kudos to the Cons in Alberta who did that, I wish more provinces could be in your situation… with luck maybe Newfoundland can be a mini-Alberta one day. In Ontario the Cons failed miserably to balance our budgets after almost 10 years... they messed up Ontario pretty good. So understand Cons from Alberta that Ontario has had a pretty bad experience with Cons running our province. Likewise, many Ontarians realize that Alberta is lucky as hell that it has the resources such as oil, because a good lot of it gets sent to Sarnia Ontario for further processing, and refinement adding to our economy and making life for us better. This whole rivalry thing has to end... so no more penis envy type behavior from the Albertans please, and Ontarians... please remember that we substantially benefit from that oil pipeline and not all Albertans are crazy Christians/conservatives or whatever name you want to belittle them with. Were in Canada together lets find a way to make this country great... we have the people, we have the resources to do it... lets stop the infighting and work as a country... lose the us and them mindset... ohhh yeah the other provinces are invited too... heh. /2cents
  14. As number 8 in the top 10 largest world economies I would hardly say that we are irrelevant. Population wise perhaps... however when such a small population controls such a vast amount of world resources... our role becomes increasingly relevant. In response to harper and his latest move on SSM... What are his strategists thinking? In one of canada's most gay friendly centers this kind of message is unlikely to garner the kind of support he needs to become the nations leader. Mistake after mistake from the cons. Anyhow I applaud our government... equal rights for all. To quote Hulk Hogan in a speed stick commercial "Anything less is just uncivilized' hehe
  15. Just ask anyone on the California power grid how well its working. Ohh yeah... in Ontario where energy derregulation was brought in by the Harris tories, there is now talk about the need for rolling blackouts. YAY for deregulation... it really works ohh so well
  16. From a health and safety perspective this is crazy. a) the kids will have little to no knowledge of their rights as a worker i sure as hell don't want a 12 year old flippin my burgers... Ecoli anyone? c) These kids should be out with their friends... not slaving away for minimum wage. d) Hmmm maybe Nike will relocate some of its production to Alberta
  17. The United Church is pretty damn accepting of gay rights... of course they are now emroiled in their own internal battle over the issue.
  18. yes yes argus... lets have more conservative dribble shall we? "liberal bias media... blah blah blah." "Damn those quebecers their not really Canadians anyway." "Toronto sux... I hate Toronto... those bastages." SSM is a dead issue, its going to pass no matter how much whining and bitching there is. I think I have heard every argument against SSM and none of the hold up to the bullshit test.
  19. thats pretty creative TTS Im pretty sick of the Bobo guy... in fact im not sure im a fan of Paul either. If they are so interested in sending aid they should organize a celebrity boxing match. Id pay to see those two duke it out.
  20. Impeachment anyone...? Bill almost got sacked for getting a blow job... but blowing up a country, violating american and international law... thats ok because Bush is a 'war president' whateverthefek that means
  21. equality for all... except the rich of course... they will go where they please always have always will.
  22. lol a hard working socialist... Im left leaning and this even made me laugh I think it was a sneaky move... but then again... politics is a sneaky and sometimes dirty game. Harpers and his inner circle keep on dropping the ball on so many opportunities to score political points and bring the public on side. When push comes to shove the Liberals push but Harper and the CPC seem to trip over themselves and end up with mud on their face. One thing that would make me have more confidence in Harper is showing that he can accept a political defeat without going on some childish rant about the liberals and their brutish ways. Accepting defeat with a little grace would help his image a great deal. /2cents
  23. LOL thats the best line for a news article ever... EVER!
  24. My question is.. if the US is so intent on waging its 'war on terror' where does Saudi Arabia come in? 9/11 Hijackers were funded using Saudi money, most of them were Saudi's. The Saudi's are in fact funding the millitant brand of islam and waging war on Muslims and the 'western infidel'(US). Afghanistan was just a training base for terror operatives, Saudi is their bank... wouldn't it make sense to cut off their source of revenue?... Of course that would involve pissing off Bush's friends the Bin Laden family. I guess Iraq was just an easier country to blow up and look like you were doing something about terror.
