  1. I am saying that umbrose is incompetent. I am also saying that Harper is also incompetent. I used the example of introducing a motion regarding the Quebecois(harper does not know who they are) as a nation within canada. Its like saying assmonkeys are a nation within canada. When you are asked what exactly constitutes an assmonkey and you can't answer, I deem you incompetent. I am also stating that the CPC is just as capable of being corrupt as anyone else in a position of power. Hence the equation. If the CPC was in power for 12 years they would prove to be just as corrupt as they claimed the Libs are.
  2. Even if your view of competence were correct it is still a different issue from lack of ethics. You really don't get the issues the Liberals have with ethics. Again, make the central issue of the election ethics in Government. That would be a winning strategy. No I was commenting on your assertion that the CPC is competent. I disagree. I was NOT confusing ethics and competence. The cannot claim to be both ethical and incompetent as they have demonstrated otherwise. I was perhaps not entirely clear in my post that was adressing two different issues. My apologies.
  3. Yeah like Rona is a shining example of competency in government Harper even introduced a motion stating that 'Quebecois are a nation' when asked who the Quebecois are, he couldn't answer. Nice and competent huh? Take the BS that the CPC has been up to in the last year. Then multiply that by 12 years and I bet you would get about the same level of unethical behavior by the CPC, as the Liberals over their 12 year tenure in government. N = numbers of years in office BS= unethical Bullshit that a governing party gets up to CPC= Canadian Party of Canada Libs= Liberal Party of Canada The equation of political unethical behavior (CPC+BS)*N = (Lib+BS)*N Power corrupts, no if ands or buts.
  4. That's simply not true. I have an IQ of 136 and research stuff all day. People are rational and can make correct descisions when they are presented with information in a nutshell. When an immigrant sometimes tells me that there are no jobs here in Canada, I say it's becuase they let too many poeple landing here and there aren't enough jobs to go around for everyone. Kyoto is a great way to flush our money down the toilet. Lol you know those internet IQ scores are not real right? One of my fave university profs had a great line "Only an idiot would tell you their IQ". Your IQ score is not relevant to the topic, so I must ask why bring it up? Unless you like to swing it around like its your e-penis. IQ scores do not matter anyhow, they are mere standardized tests of no real value or significance. Psychology courses now teach that IQ tests are flawed and are not a good measure of a persons mental capacity. Most of the 'gifted' kids that I knew in school were only one kind of smart. IQ Scores: Ohh yeah stop your xenophobic rants about immigrants.
  5. Ummm, a promise to reduce the GST means the GST is in fact reduced.Imagine that! Stéphane Dion was part of a government (indeed Dion belongs to an entire theory) which believes that the perception of reality is in fact reality. (Stéphane Dion is a French sociologist.) ---- Harper has tremendous credibility on the environment. He delivers. Harper also has "crossover" credibility. Dion can play the watermelon (green/red) card but it won't work. First, Dion's a Quebec academic who cares far more about federalism and the constitution than about the environment. (You want a united Canada? Dion's your go-to-guy.) Second, if the environment really matters, Dion had his kick at the can for 10 years but did nothing. Third, Quebecers have hydropower - so of course Dion wants to tax CO2. If Quebec had to pay that tax, Dion would argue differently. To Liberals (Kinsella/Chretien), the environment is a PR problem. The solution is the the Rick Mercer One Tonne Challenge. Liberals are fair weather friends. lol tremendous credibility?! I call bullshit. The 'clean air' act was a freakin joke. It was basically laughed out of parliment... not exactly credible. I admit... the liberals completely dropped the ball. Unfortunately the CPC has yet to show anything tangible.
  6. True. I can assure anyone that people don't care about what they don't understand. What voters DO understand is that they recieved a $100 cheque in the mail each month to help out with their family. The do know that when the go the checkout they save money and will save more. The media does a really poor job at explaining Kyoto and environment issues. Pseudo intellectuals are the ones who love to talk about the environment. Ummm what exactly is the 'ace' up his sleeve? Is that the best the CPC can come up with... mail people their own money back... wow... very 'fresh' and 'innovative' Umbrose is a freakin joke... she doesn't even show up to meetings... my brother works in the ministry of the environment and people are starting to wonder why she is always a no show at meetings... word is she said that they 'are boring because all they do is talk about policy'... I am not kidding. I will give the CPC that they introduced sticter regulations on toxic chemicals... however that is hardly groundbreaking... the EU did the same thing this week.
  7. I just can't figure out why in the hell anyone can justify a million and a half dollar salary for a management position. Seriously... executive wages are just rediculous... the best part is when you F^ck up royally and abuse your power you still get your golden parachute... wtf!? If a construction worker f^cks up they are told not to report back to work. Your last paycheck will be in the mail... thanks for comin out. They don't get 2 years salary. Hell if i blatantly abused corporate policy i would expect to be out on my ass and thats it... If you are expecting to be compensated well for your work, you should expect that high standards of workplace output are required. If you do not meet those expectations... soo sad too bad. There is a severe double standard with regard to 'class compensation' blue collar work gets shit all. White collar gets the golden parachute... nice to see equality for all.
  8. It will likely remind them of Chretien and corruption. wow you just won't stop poking a dead carcus will you... of course you can poke away if you want... but it won't help.
  9. As socialist statement as has ever been seen!!! It does not compare the political ideologies of the current Liberals who run the country in a dictatorial manner incorporating a weakened form of Marxism. I would go so far as to say the Liberals have destroyed this country and transformed democracy into a joke resulting in a CLASSLESS society but still allowing the rich to rule. Its easy to understand the sectarian violence going on in Iraq and how it compares in nature to the perpetual internal battle (state control-transformation of Canada) going on in Canada being 'government vs. the citizen's of Canada' and how this situation could easily erupt into violence similar to Iraq. Are you suggesting we go back to the 'good old days' of the caste and class system??? Wow ... I can't beleive you are actually advocating that removing discrimination based on a persons 'class' is a bad thing. If that was not your point then you clearly failed to articulate what it is you meant. For your sake I hope that is the case. Leafless your post was a truly odd statement...
  10. no no no you have it all wrong House: 1 Flying Spaghetti Monster: 1 God: 0
  11. Wal-mart is cheap, boutique stores are not as. Wal-mart is one stop shopping, boutique or small stores, not neccessarily and that equals to more time. So, it boils down to time & money. My mother is poor, if she can shop at a Wal mart so she has more money in her wallet for prescriptions, food, and her heating bill then I support her shopping at Walmart. I do not shop at Wal-mart because I would much rather support the little guys not to mention that it is a far better experience - the atmosphere, the characters you meet who actually will converse with you and feeling like you are a real part of the community, something I find we are really lacking these days - a whole other topic. That said, Wal-mart, or any other chain, when it moves into a community should become part of the community by paying decent wages, supporting local charity, and setting examples. I really contest that you save all that much money shopping at walmart. The prices may be cheap but so is the quality. I may pay 10% more for a product but the quality of it is not as shoddy as the walmart product of which you will pay for twice over the lifespan of the slighly more expensive product. Is there really much of a difference in perscription medicines between walmart & other pharmacies? (i really don't know... i have purchased perscription medicine once in my whole life so i have no idea)
  12. Dispite the fact that I have officially joined the Liberal party... the Libs have behaved very VERY badly when it comes to Charter rights right here in Canada. Anyone remember the APEC summit in BC? I sure as hell do. I can't help but notice that the PMO sent a notice to the mounties to 'get the protesters out'. We wouldn't want to embarass a dictator now would we?(Indonesian president Suharto) The APEC inquiry was a toothless joke.
  13. The CWB is a monopsony... which differs from a monopoly. Excellent explanation of a Monopsony (they were barely mentioned in BCOMM economics) As far as the farmer being jailed... I give you the Canadian Wheat Board Act. The farmer broke the law... ignorance of the law is not a defense. Sorry about the emoticons... the act includes some punctuation that brings it out in the forums...
  14. or... http://www.autonet.ca/Insurance/story.cfm?...493226-sun.html And thank you for that theloniousfleabag. But what is your point? Does any of those limks change what I said? I do not think so. I think what he is trying to say that even with a govn't run system run inefficiently they probably wouldn't be 4.2 billion$ inefficient. Thats a hellavalot of profit... i think i may cite that next time i talk to my insurance company...
  15. http://www.economist.com/opinion/displayst...y_id=E1_RPVPTSJ Read the same article (my mommy buys me a subscription to The Economist every year... not kiddin for damn near a decade now (b-day present)... couldn't ask for anything better ) very very very interesting. It does not look good for Canada though.... with are economy being so closely tied to theirs. Ahh well America is really all that special... it has just been really good at marketing itself... unfortunately the marketers got complacent and the government got more incompetent Remember when the world sort of loved the USA?! Hell i do... so much for the big global USA love in.
  16. This has been the rule of zoning since people started to live together. Church went here, houses went there, hotel went there, etc. Wal-Mart has wanted for a long time to be in the suburbs on a large swatch of land. Most cities and towns have accommodated that. Some towns though have been less interested in a large box store on their doorstep and have had majority support from the electorate. It should be their choice. Zoning is not banning. Consumers still have the choice and access to it. I like going to walmart....because I enjoy browsing at products and comparing prices. My first stop is always their video game bin for good sales. There's one being built right now only a few blocks away ....and a lot of ladies I chat with are also excited about it as I. I can't help but laugh when i saw those two posts next to eachother... sorry betsy I will share something that really pissed me off today. I went back to my hometown of London Ontario to find that a Megawalmart has opened up on a peice of farmland in the middle of nowhere on the outskirts of town. All around it were other big box retailers ie futureshop, winners, EB, Payless...ect. Now all of the stores in this gigantic new retail development are spread so far apart that it is not practical to walk from store to store... basically you have to drive park, then drive to the next store and park again... no buses or public transportation even go near this area. Why in the hell do we allow these retail centers to be built in such a rediculous way? Where in the hell are the city planners? I think our city planners have been coopted into thinking that suburban sprawl is great and cookie cutter communities are great too. Shouldn't we be fostering commuities by bringing commerce & and residential developments togeather? When I think of the great places to live in Toronto (yeah im using toronto but its for a reason) it is the areas that have a great mix of easily available shops, restaurants & boutiques. To name a few, The beaches, Bloor West Village, Rosedale(or is that Yorkdale i can never remember that one, Roncessvale, The Danforth. I would argue & if your a free market lover the houseing market backs me up that these are extremely desirable neighbourhoods to live in precicely for that very reason... they foster a sense of community, local schools, work and easy access to public transit. I can't imagine how it is really all that difficult of a formula to figure out. The sad thing that i find when im travelling are driving for long distances through the GTA suburbs (which are huge) is that face that they are all the same... same houses, same roads, same stores... where in the hell has the creativity gone in our countries development?... where is the vision?... the imagination? The cities of the world that people want to visit are ones that are beautiful... when was the last time someone visited calgary for the architechture? (Sorry Calgary... don't mean to pick on you)... I have lived in the suburbs and can attest it is a truly depressing place... which is one of the reasons why i will never live there again.
  17. The Wage Gap (I admit the numbers are from 1999 but the gap has not really gotten any smaller since) I havn't found a source yet but I know japan has a wage cap for a company CEO something in the order of 40 times the salary of an entry level employee for a company. I like this system... if a CEO wants more money... spread the wealth with your workers as well, they helped earn it. IMHO that helps build a better society. It would sure burn my ass working @ disney and asshat Eisner cuts out their animation studio's along with the creative talen of the company and earns himself a phat paycheck in the order of $576million... even if most of that was exercising stock options... nobody is worth that much cash. Cerntainly not on an annual basis.
  18. So under genetics is completely bunk as its tied to biology... wow. Stupidity all around... yay lol perhaps your a 'Scientologist' have fun jumping on Opra's couch.
  19. I just plain don't like walmart. I don't like their business practices nor do i particularly like their cult-like corporate culture. But i do think banning them is silly. Has anyone been to a Loblaws owned 'Real Canadian Superstore' lately? They are trying to become more like walmart. the more retailers try to become one stop shopping paradises, the more boring and unoriginal their products become. I live in the downtown of Guelph Ontario, I have one stop shopping for pretty much everything within a block of my place... asian food store, a farmers market, 2 bakeries, a butcher shop & deli, produce vendor, funiture store, lord knows how many clothing stores, restaurants, coffee shops, basically i rarely have the need to go to a mall. This is the thing that kills me... Canadians bitch about walmart... yet most of canadians move to the burbs away from the downtown cores. Talk about a formula to kill your local retailers... Canadians & Americans have no-one but themselves to blame for turning walmart into what it is today. Personally I walk into a walmart and its like stepping into a foreign country... the offensive signage, the gawd awful lighting, the crappy products... its a painful experience.
  20. lol harper hasn't received a single vote... lolz *edited* ahhh some harper votes... that poll was looking a little silly for awhile there...
  21. The CPC bashes the media at their own peril... Then bitch when the media doesn't love them... The CPC most definitely did get favourable coverage last election... even on the freakn CBC.
  22. This business of charging more for the same goddamn service will not stant. I can barely justify my cable bill as it is... if this actually goes through... ill be making my cancellation call to rogers. F-that noise. I would rather save my pennies and keep pumping them into my computer which can at least be interactive and a hellalot more innovative. As to the Canadian content sux people: Personally I love and watch alot of canadian content some of my fave canadian TV shows *Trailor Park Boyz- someone claimed this show hasn't made money... that plain wrong. *JonoVision* - Johnathan Torrence (J-Roc in TPB) used to have his own teen oriented show... it was freakin hilarious and was actually somewhat relavent to teens unlike the crap put out by muchmusic & MTV. *The littlest Hobo* - Can you tell i used to watch alot of YTV? *Reboot* (remember when an all CG show was cool?) yes it was the mid 90's - ps i was a youngin then *Beachcombers* -- wholy freakin crap this show is still on Prime or something like that... wicked soo very very canadian *The Newsroom* - well ahead of its time... same sort of humour as "the office" except IMHO way funnier *This hour has 22 min* -- classic political satire it was way funnier with Rick Mercer *Rickmercer Report* -- Funny worth the watch but it seems this hour was worth more then the sum of its parts There are a tonne more canadian shows that I watch but these are just a few that come to mind. I would honestly love to have a system where you can order channels by themselves. In fact I would not mind to pay more for such a system. I really don't watch the major US networks as they really have hit a slump when it comes to innovative content. HBO being the exception(damn they make good content). I would probably watch more shows from down south if they were worth watching... but why in the hell would i waste my life watching Paris Hilton be retarted skank or Donald Trump try to fool the world that he isn't bald by wearing that dead squirrel on his head... There definitely is a demand for above retard programming... the problem is that retards are actually affected by advertising and therefor their shows get funded. I spend far more time on youtube and watching micro content via the I-net then watching TV anymore. The downfall of 'old media' is upon us.
  23. can you linkey that poll for us? That 62% needs to translate into votes... if it does not... then who cares. Another good poll would be asking Manitoba & west what they think of Dion. Im not gunna lie I like Dion, he was my second choice but im not overly thrilled about the fact that we have another Lib leader from quebec... I would love to see a newfie PM. We would have national drinking day (just kidding) Hey im joining the Lib Party this week, Im not jumping for joy and declaring 'mission accomplished' There is much work to be done and really he has been leader of the Libs for what not even 72 hours? Give it some time and we shall see. (Just to note... just because im joining a political party does not mean im going to be a partisan hack... Im going to be a total grunt in the Libs & I know it, Im really just interested in the experience. I will disagree with my party when I think a bad choice has been made. To do otherwise is dishonest.)
  24. Somehow I doubt the Jean Crouton ever really gave a shit what Dubya ever said. Betsy the Libs did put some programs in (albeit I would have like an arse load more) that really made sense. One being where the gov't basically encouraged canadians to invest in more efficient home appliances i.e. water heaters, furnaces ect. Investments in energy conservation that many people would really like to make however were just out of reach due to the cost. The CPC completely scrapped that plan and have done nada ever since. I don't care who gets in just as long as they make good choices when it comes to policy. The previous liberal gov't was nothing to write home about, however the current CPC has proven themselves to be worse (which is sad seeing how the bar had already been set so low).
  25. posted again for those who can't bother reading the thread. Dispute the numbers all you want... in reality... you are wrong. Have a nice day.
