Youth threatened by growing disparity.
TwoDucks replied to Rocky Road's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It'd be interesting to know if young people in Quebec have a higher voter turnout as compared to TRoC. -

And damned if they didn't trade it up for a house, two cars and a comfortable living situation. -
Youth threatened by growing disparity.
TwoDucks replied to Rocky Road's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yeah, stupid lazy kids. They deserve poverty, huh? -
Well, not necessarily, but do you have any evidence that he's lying? Other than the fact that all Liberals are dirty lying crooks, that is. You'll notice the reason Elections Canada hasn't confirmed it is because it's over the weekend, as well.

Fantino accused of of having 3 bank accounts
TwoDucks replied to olpfan1's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The problem is this part "The allegations also suggest that nine Conservative candidates in the last election got money from the Fantino campaign, all perfectly legal if it's filtered through the electoral association or the party, and it's declared." seems to go against this part "It's not known who those candidates were, or if they received anything." To spell it out, the question is not whether or not transferring money to other candidates is legal or not. It is, so long as it's declared. The problem is that there are allegations he's done it without declaring it. Sorry to burst your self-righteousness bubble, there. -
As you'll notice from this article: So although I agree that robocalls are distateful, he claims to have gotten an okay from EC. Don't let me ruin the strawman you've got going, though.

An interesting choice of words, regime is. Honestly, if the First Nations don't feel their needs are being met, then I don't blame them for wanting to do something high profile. Wail all you like about extortion, I suppose, but the proposals to have guaranteed educational and housing funds doesn't seem like a horrid thing for the government to have to provide.

Now even the RCMP think they're entitled to holidays
TwoDucks replied to Rick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't believe he was implying that Ontario sets the rules for the RCMP. I find it funny that the RCMP have been sending officers to train in Phoenix, ostensibly under Joe "where's yer papers" Arpaio. No wonder they've been stuck with so many controversies over the past few years. -
Horvath looks to remove HST from Hydro/Heating
TwoDucks replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Given what you're saying here, is it correct for me to assume that you think that Toronto is a net drain on Ontario? -
But you agree it's wrong. That's what people have a problem with. They were elected to power initially on the "Liberals are crooks" banner. They would be responsible government and all that, remember? So if Conservatives are just doing what Liberals do, but what Liberals do is unacceptable, that means what, exactly?

Mackay busted in a lie about the helicopter of doom
TwoDucks replied to olp1fan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
But why did he go through such great lengths to deny such a little thing? If he'd just admitted it in the first place, it would have been a none issue. Now he's putting himself in the position that the armed forces are lying about him. I don't know how they vote as a group, but it seems he's probably doing something that might alienate him from a potential group of Conservative support. Even if you're not upset about his lack of honesty, you have to admit his judgement in turning this into a big of a thing as this. -
Are cannabis laws going in the wrong direction
TwoDucks replied to WWWTT's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You know what would do so just as effectively and at a profit for the government though? Taxation and regulation. -

New Democratic Parties Across Canada
TwoDucks replied to Newfoundlander's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Your last point, today's services using tomorrow's money, can be said of many left and right leaning governments. Thanks for playing, but try again. -
Yup. Detached home prices in the area are averaging around a million. Condos are less, but still, it's kinda crazy.

Atomic Energy Canada Privatized
TwoDucks replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't follow your logic. If private sector workers are oppressed, why is the government at fault rather than, you know, those who employee them? -
Why, because it rolls off the tongue quite nicely. That's the only reason I'm still here.

Nice reading comprehension. Since when has ICBC not been for profit? -
When will C-6 Be Passed through the Senate?

And tell me, other than your belief in Chopra's word, what is your proof mail volume dropped significantly? And no, the fact you didn't get mail for two weeks doesn't count. -
Atomic Energy Canada Privatized
TwoDucks replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Wow, thank you for realizing that despite at no point claiming it's been a financial success recently, you clearly cut through the fat to realize that's what I meant. Your powers of intuition are surpassed only by your clear mastery of question marks. I find it funny that although the government will be getting $15 million from SNC-Lavelin for AECL, they'll be paying them back $75 million to help develop the new CANDU reactor. And who says that Conservatives have to be good businessmen? -
Atomic Energy Canada Privatized
TwoDucks replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It's a shame. Nuclear holds a lot of promise for meeting our energy demands, but with the whole nuclear scare after Japan, it seems unlikely that we'll be going down that route any time soon. Perfect excuse for the AECL to be sold off to the lowest bidder. -
Agreed. All those uppity proletariats need a little hunger in their bellies to remind them who the boss is.
-
I don't follow how your paper route analogy bears any relevance here. Did you have to pay a mortgage/rent while you delivered papers at 12? Did you have to feed your family? I drive my car to work sometimes but that doesn't make me a racecar driver. On the other hand, your argument does suggest that maybe delivery kids should become more organized in order to demand better pay and better working conditions. My goodness, you've convinced me! They should start a union.

Special Powers for the Police at the G20
TwoDucks replied to GostHacked's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think that's a given to expect that. And aside from this fuck-about with Ontario allowing or not allowing special police powers for the G20 summit, I think we have it pretty good compared to a significant chunk of the global population in terms of transparency. Could things be better? Sure, and we should strive for that. I was referring more to the situations in BC, where the police very clearly acted outside of what the law allowed them to do. I definitely agree people need to be more willing to stand up for their own rights. I also agree that police seem to see themselves in an Us vs. Them situation. And well I don't think it's good, it's certainly understandable why they would act that way. There needs to be more accountability, independent oversight or something to that nature. -
Special Powers for the Police at the G20
TwoDucks replied to GostHacked's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't know if there's going to be an easy resolution. First steps need to be taken to change police culture, but a lot of that evolves from the situations they have to deal with. On the other hand, we could require them to be more closely monitored, maybe a black box of sorts to record audio when responding. That has plenty of downsides as well. Well his authoritarian disregard to civil liberties sounds a bit more in line with Conservative values towards law and order. Aren't straw man arguments great?
