I take it you naysayers aren't the Christian kind. Seems to me somewhere I read about forgiveness. If he were in my riding I might consider voting for him. At least he admitted his failings, and would probably be the last person to be involved in any future scandal or corruption.

I don't think this personal attack helps the discussion.

Air America continues to struggle
newbie replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Limbaugh is a joke and a blowhard. Oh, and let's not forget his drug habit. http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1895 http://www.nydailynews.com/10-02-2003/fron...9p-110349c.html http://www.rushlimbaughonline.com/ -
You nailed it Black Dog.

God speaks to George Bush?
newbie replied to PocketRocket's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Well, he definitely had the earpiece out during the conversation in my signature. -
Yet, you've seen fit to remove your signature? Perhaps I hit the nail on the head? And yes I did mean out of context. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Shoop, here you go.

Uh, you make it sound as if this mess was over. Well it's still a quagmire until the U.S. and other forces exit. And according to U.S. sources, that could be quite a while. So much for Bush's 2002 election promise of a clear and concise exit strategy should they ever go to war.

Well folks, the facts speak for themselves. You can demean and deride Dr. Suzuki all you want, but "Canada hasn't improved its environmental performance since 1992, relative to other OECD countries". Not a record we should be proud of.
-
I had seen something similar in the Toronto Star yesterday or the day before. While there are many who think that we cannot rate worse than Turkey or Mexico, they should read about the places where we fail.Three provinces dump raw sewage into the ocean. Our handling of nuclear waste was rated poorly as well. Instead of sticking our heads in the sand and denying it, we should send a message to our political candidates that we want something done. PS. Dr. David Suzuki backed the report, so for me, it gives it considerable credibility... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree that we should be improving our handling of waste. I agree we should not be dumping raw sewage into the ocean, but does anyone seriously believe Turkey and Mexico don't dump raw sewage into every river and lake they have, not to mention their oceans? Come on. Please. US companies move south to Mexico so they can avoid, among other things, the environmental standards and rules in the US. Don't tell me Mexico should be held up to us as a great example. As for Suzuki, he doesn't add credibility to this report, he loses it by backing idiotic pseudo science. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Obviously, your credibility just died with your last statement. Dr. Suzuki is a world renowned scientist. What is your background?

Shoop, I think you mean out of context. They are quotes and that's why I provided the link. These comments speak for themselves and how Harper thinks. And I don't happen to agree with him.
-
It was done by an independent team of researchers from Simon Fraser University, led by Dr. Thomas Gunton. I, unlike a lot of folks it seems on this forum, agree with science. I guess it's just easier to disagree when you don't like the results.

http://members.shaw.ca/consciencecanada/co...0406lumley.html And some of Harper's many quotes from http://www.canadiandemocraticmovement.ca/d...article378.html "Human rights commissions, as they are evolving, are an attack on our fundamental freedoms and the basic existence of a democratic society…It is in fact totalitarianism. I find this is very scary stuff." (BC Report Newsmagazine, January 11, 1999) “These proposals [government programs] included cries for billions of new money for social assistance in the name of “child poverty” and for more business subsidies in the name of “cultural identity”. In both cases I was sought out as a rare public figure to oppose such projects.” (The Bulldog, National Citizens Coalition, February 1997) "Universality has been severely reduced: it is virtually dead as a concept in most areas of public policy…These achievements are due in part to the Reform Party…” (Speech to the Colin Brown Memorial Dinner, National Citizens Coalition, 1994) "It is to take the bricks and begin building another home – a stronger and much more autonomous Alberta." “Whether Canada ends up as one national government or two national governments or several national governments, or some other kind of arrangement is, quite frankly, secondary in my opinion" "There is a dependence in the region [Atlantic Canada] that breeds a culture of defeatism," (CBC News, May 30, 2002) I do find Stephen Harper scary in that I believe he is hiding what his true objectives are. He has spent most of his time demeaning the other parties, to the point where anger has become his trademark. And FTA lawyer, it was a rant if I've ever read one. "What will it take for voters like you to actually NOT vote Liberal?" You sound almost desperate. But to answer that question, I'm willing to let Gomery produce its report and decide. I'm certainly not going to let partisan rhetoric and rants influence me.

Out of 30 countries, Canada fared 28th in terms of environmental performance. Turkey is number 1!. Read the report here: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...ienceandHealth/

From: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9659209 "The returns have raised questions over the possibility of irregularities in the balloting." Yeah, a good old American democracy.

Yawn, yawn. More mindless and endless right rhetoric. So now you're saying the NDP and Liberals are homosexual. You really gotta get out more often, and quit watching Fox news.

This is the worst of your partisan talking points. John Roberts is anything but a Bush crony. Everyone believed/believes that he is immensely qualified to be a supreme court justice, even those who voted against him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Let's see. Roberts was a college pal of Dubya, and served under Reagan and G.H.W. Bush. What's your definition of crony?

Wrong This was the concession to some of the provinces. Thank you It left them out of federation. Mulroney stirred up the pot by trying to get Quebec onboard with bribery (concessions through Meech and Charlottetown). He failed miserably leaving us with the mess he created.

The GOP, or Grand Old party, is having it's fair share of problems. Let's see if I can keep track here: Karl Rove - testifies before grand jury, what, 4 times now Scooter Libby, Cheney's chief of staff, also in trouble over the "plame game" Michael Brown - chronyism and total incompetent David Safavian - 3 counts of criminal complaints, oh and links to Hamast and Hezbollah Bill Frist - insider trading Harriet Miers - chronyism John Roberts - chronyism Tom DeLay - indictments Bush - incompetent, 10s of 1000s killed on his watch. Oh, and let's not forget Pat Robertson, Bush's Christian buddy, making plans to knock off a South American leader. Doesn't look good for the 2006 midterms. Kinda makes Clinton's BJ look pretty tame.

The Quebec government was the only one not to sign because they wanted more rights than the rest of us. And are you forgetting the nonwithstanding clause? Every MP had his or her say and vote regarding SSM. Every person had the right to contact their MP and voice their concern. This is how democracy works. You can't possibly bring every piece of legislation to the people. To say that our charter was Liberal imposed is ridiculous. It was signed by all Premiers except Levesque. And if you want to talk about a mini-republic, that was Quebec at the time. What is interesting tho, In a June 1982 Gallup Poll, 49% of Quebecers wanted the constitituion, 16% did not. Also 52% of elected officals were in favour. So what would you have us do. Abandon the charter and go back to being under Britian's thumb?

Left Sets Examples For Terrorists
newbie replied to Shady's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Thanks for reminding those of us who oppose this ridiculous war that we're with the terrorists. Bush drew that line, and I must say it was probably the most stupid comment he has made yet. It isn't Bush hating either. It's hating his absolute incompetence. -
Uh, think Iraqi oil and Haliburton.

Some points: -As some think we are hard done by living in Canada, I pointed out to travel around to compare our society to others. That was an educated suggestion that might have been lost on some here. - Yes, there is inequality in other parts of the world, and that evokes in me a sense of deep gratitude for living in Canada, and wanting to contribute to those more unfortunate, both in this country and abroad. -What freedoms are you talking about that are being removed? - Why do people like you continue to throw around the word "corrupt" to tar an entire political party. (I'd consider that uneducated, uninformed and irresponsible) - Re referendums, gov't can't bring everything to the people to vote on. That's why they are there. And if you're referring to the same sex legislation, it was a FREE VOTE. Even cabinet members could vote contrary to gov't position, and one did. He might have lost his job, but he did the right thing by representing the will of his continstuents. - No one has duped me, but I do see the right trying to use the guise of conventional values to overshadow their inability to increase support.

I take it you didn't like my sarcasm or my symbolism.
