  1. Muzzle free speech? Interesting interpretation of what I said. And what is the country but the people. Did you think I was referring to geography? You guys better get over the fact that we have a democracy and people are elected by the people. To bitch and complain about the process is nothing but whining. My brother works in Gabon every month and tells me horror stories each trip back. Old people and sick children left to die on the streets with no health care. He's been to other African countries where starvation is rampant. That's a little of what I meant by "travelling" or at least opening your eyes. And I'll reiterate: appreciate what you have here. If the ballot box isn't good enough, then work for political parties to effect change.
  2. That's right, Newbie. Everybody's extreme except you and the people you agree with. It is true that in decades past that Americans sewed the Maple Leaf onto their backpacks, and perhaps some still do. But Canada's reputation in the rest of the world for being "not America" is a fading fact. Don't like it? Tough. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not sure what you're talking about there BHS. If you're trying to say we're getting more like the United States, then I'd have to totally disagree with you. I've travelled in Europe with Americans so I know of what I speak. We are highly regarded there unlike the United States. So I'm not sure where you're coming from. As far as extreme opinions on this forum, check the archives.
  3. Thanks for the link Black Dog. A great article!
  4. Welcome kaneda. As you can see we have posters at every extreme (some on the fringe). I popped over to your own site and will be spending more time there I think. This forum is getting a little over the top for me. A cursory look at previous threads will validate that point for me. And dear Monty, to say Canada is not respected in the world, one only has to ask why some Americans are sewing our flag on their luggage. http://www.canadianmoose.com/souvenirs/ http://www.petalumanet.com/2005/07/12/the-secret-americans/ http://greg.org/archive/2003/02/21/uhoh_canada.html
  5. Surely you jest. But for the record, St. George - real; dragon - legend, myth, fairytale.
  6. Well, the museum is in Kentucky, after all. http://www.detnews.com/2005/religion/0509/27/A04-328981.htm
  7. cyber, there is plenty of evidence. Do a google yourself and you should be presented with a ton of studies. I provided some sites a couple of pages back. Human activity does indeed create the vast majority of CO2 emissions. Logic alone will tell you that.
  8. Quite the world traveler. If you need help to pack your bags, give me a call. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly. thank you for helping my point. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not sure what your point is. Is it that you'd like to become an American "made me want to live there", or that you hate Canada, "made me proud to call myself Canadian, not". A little confusing. My point was that if one travels the world and not just the United States, one might come back with a better appreciation of what a great country we live in. As far as my reference to help packing one's bags, that was said to indicate that if you're truly discontented with Canada and prefer to live elsewhere (as you seem to indicate) then you have my support. And oh, if you choose to stay, you can express your political leanings at the ballot box.
  9. Freeh had a hate-on for Clinton from day one. Read Clinton's book for the other side of the story.
  10. Quite the world traveler. If you need help to pack your bags, give me a call.
  11. Either that or Dubya doesn't want him caught. We all know that since the evil empire Russia poses no more threat, U.S. needed a new enemy to fuel the war machine.
  12. I think you've been buying too much into the U.S.'s fear agenda. We don't need to contiunally say "We live in the best country of the world" to convince us. We already know it. I'm so bloody tired of all the snivelling and negativity I'm hearing lately about Canada. Travel around a bit and visit the rest of the world. When you come back, you'll be grateful you live in this country.
  13. Speaking of whacko......
  14. I will now invoke the ignore function.
  15. For one thing, the petition you present is 7 years old and much has been discussed in the interim. I don't believe, as you do, that global warming has been debunked. Nor do I believe it is junk science. I think my links will show how credible this problem is and will be in our future. http://www.koshland-science-museum.org/exhibitgcc/index.jsp http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/20...al_warming.html http://maui.net/~jstark/nasa.html http://www.ucsusa.org/global_warming/ http://www.newscientist.com/channel/earth/climate-change/ http://books.nap.edu/collections/global_warming/index.html What scares me is not that people like you might deny the problem, but that you and your like-minded folk would deny the science.
  16. In the words of David Hannum, There's a sucker born every minute. Hard to understand the denial factor on this one. Facts are scary things I guess.
  17. Please, before you embarrass yourself even further, read the 911 commission report.
  18. I forget ... how much time had passed before Schiavo started trumpeting Terri's wishes? Why did he wait so long? Hm? Hmm?? HMMM ??? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I recall that he gave her enough time to make a decision. He could have "pulled the plug" immediately, but he, as I recall, gave her about 4 years to recover. When that wasn't apparent, he began proceeding against the families wishes. So Terry suffered needlessly for years while the courts fought it out. At any rate, it is really none of our business as to his decision. Under Florida law and supported by rulings of State and Federal courts, Michael Schiavo, Terri's husband, was her legal guardian. Schiavo says his wife would not have wanted to live in a persistent vegetative state and that he was fighting for her right to die. It was atrocious when the Republicans got involved, and went against 19 judges and 6 courts, as well as 7 neurologists.
  19. He's been caught in too many lies Monty. Try doing a little research outside the box. Like I said, his show (and yes I've seen it) is nothing but conservative entertainment. I'm not upset with him. I feel sorry for this man who seems to have so much anger inside. A few more sites exposing O'Reilly's lies: http://prorev.com/oreilly.htm http://princeroy.blogspot.com/2003_03_23_p...oy_archive.html http://slate.msn.com/id/2078577/ http://www.newshounds.us/2005/09/06/desper...es_the_poor.php
  20. We get bored of listing them all. A few: Canada Free Press, Toronto Sun, NewsMax, Sinclair Broadcast Group, Murdoch's News Corps, Wall Street Journal..., not to mention the endless and vacuous rantings of conservative/republican talk radio.
  21. In case you missed it the first time around, indictment #2 for DeLay: http://www.webcpa.com/article.cfm?articleid=15762
  22. Overreacting Monty? That's what the truth is called now? There is no doubt O'Reilly's behaviour entertains some folks. But he is not a newsperson. He is an entertainer who distorts facts to the ignorance of most people that watch him. He lied about his background, he lied about receiving some award, he lied that he didn't tell people to boycott Pepsi, he lies about statitistics.....it never seems to end. http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1108 This guy has 0 credibility for factual information. Other than his outrageous and bullying tactics, he ain't got much going for him. He's just another angry republican white guy with a microphone.
  23. Actually, the original Hebrew says "Thou shalt commit no murder." The word used for "kill" in the Commandments is different from the word used for "kill" throughout the rest of the text. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not that I want to start a word war here, but perhaps you would like to explain the uses of smiteth, stone, and killeth that are also used in the same part of the Hebrew Bible. To me they are all used in the context of taking a life. Murder implies premeditation. So when God says things like to smithe, to stone or to killeth, you're saying He doesn't mean murder? Kinda hard to differentiate. One more reason not to take the Bible literal.
  24. This has always been the case Shakey. The right's like to think otherwise but the facts don't bear out, especially in the States. The cons control both houses, have their man in power and talk radio is overwhelming conservative. Plus, with the help of Ruport Murdoch, most of their press leans right as well. Liberal media bias is nothing but a myth.
  25. Actually Shoop, Harper had this to say on Sept. 23, "We'll have an election the day the NDP decides it doesn't want to support Liberal corruption in the House of Commons any longer.'' http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...319/?hub=Canada And their current webpage, http://www.conservative.ca/english/index.asp has a story entitiled "more liberal corruption" Seems like Harper is back to the same tired old story.
