Indigenous Rights and Title in Canada
overthere replied to jacee's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Who do you mean by 'theirs'? The most recent aboriginal occupiers? Or those that they displaced? Or those that have occupied the land for a couple hundred years? -
It is sold mainly by postal code or groups of codes. And most definitely used for marketing of many things.

Trudeau on the Wrong Side of an Issue......Again!

It is all those hockey players in bulky gear wearing masks and helmets that have me worried. Are the Saudis breeding hordes of dwarf loonies? Are there explosive vests under that Chucks Hardware jersey? Is that a sinister mustache behind the cage? -

I agree, but again that is not an issue in this circumstance. It has been agreed that this person has already identified herself to the satisfaction of citizenship authorities. All the paperwork and certification of identity is done. She has already 'earned ' citizenship in every way that matters. She has stated she will cheerfully take the oath. If it was an issue of confirming her identity I would agree `100%. It isn't. -
So you feel all religious clothing must be excluded from the citizenship oath ceremony? Snatch off turbans? Yarmulkes forcibly removed? Strip search for forbidden crosses?
-
No, it would be a shot at you.

You make no such allowances, so let's drop that bit of self serving nonsense. You are projecting your bigotry onto actions that have SFA to do with the question at hand now with this individual. What she believes or does not believe about sharia has nothing to do with this case. I'd suggest it is you that it is staggeringly stupid to continually insist that entire cultures are defined by the beliefs of others. Do think all Africans have rythym? All Jews have big noses and are good with money? All Irish are drunks leprechauns? Looks like acceptable Muslims to you are those that do what you say and think. try again. the topic is not Muslims, the Muslim faith or sharia law. The topic is: should this woman - not all Muslims or only your 'good Muslims'- be forced to uncover her face during the citizenshop oath?. Note that she was not wearing a suicide vest or trying to invoke sharia.

Has backing Wynne backfired on the Public Service Unions?
overthere replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Isn't there a double whammy? When the economy slows, companies cut back and people retire earlier than planned. They are not replaced. Downsizing by attrition. And there is a wave of boomers leaving anyway, aside from the vagaries of the economy. I don';t know why I worry, since Wynne and Trudaeu are going to retrieve all those juicy jobs from Mexico , US and China. Any day now. -

May has a more important job than lawyer, which is to be Outraged. Harper addressed the intent of the bill in Parliament. Harper addressed the intent of the bill publicly and clearly in Parliament. Sorry to point out that the horse is deceased. You may stop flogging it. -

I'm simply adding some true motives -hatred and bigotry- to this sentence:"I am guessing this is one of those times where Canadians dont know much about the legalities and will go on emotion, of course fueled by xenophobia." People fear change and a woman with a veil In Canada, is frightening to some. And I do argue that people wear veils with legitimate desire and sincerity. It is not my place to judge their motives. Certainly this woman is articulate enough and has expressed herself clearly, and who am I to suggest she is some kind of robot? Not agreeing with her reasons is very far from saying she is coerced, and that anybody who believes her is very dishonest. -
Stats Can budget 2013-2014, Note the planned revenue of $120M . Now where do you think that comes from? They've sold demographic info about us for decades. Corps and marketing companies use it to tailor all sorts of advertising to all of us. I have no issue with them selling on info, as long as they have no problem with me limiting info about myself. So far its worked out for both of us. Info is from StatsCan website

If the OP lives in Calgary and want to vote strategically, then he should just move somewhere else. Maybe to Edmonton, they are going to give it the old college try to break the Con stranglehold. It wasn't that long ago that Redmonton had a couple of Liberal MPs. One of them was Landslide Annie McLellan, Deputy PM and winner of two elections by the thinnest of margins.

The listening device is called a 'microphone'. If you have voice command in your TV, you'll have a microphone. -
Not relevant. The dispute is not about Islamic dogma. It is about a single persons right to wear a veil during the oath. Or it should be about that. It is actually about something much darker and uglier, which is conveniently revealed in this thread.

eternally OUTRAGED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! why didn't you mention Harpers weary rebuttal in Parliament the other day, when he said 'nothing to do with conscientious Canadian citzens'? Hmmmmmm? no cameras here, fess up. -
why did America lead the way in Afghianstan, Iraq(twice) and ISIS interventons?
-
what terms? Bridge contracts are never long term. They are the deal between the entry and UFA deals. Like Subban, the guy whose contract situation I mentioned and that you dismissed?
-
Maybe. Be wary of overvaluing assets, everybody does it but Toronto is notorious for this. The Leafs were splattering money everywhere except on Franson. They knew a longterm contract for big money was what he wanted, and they did not like him enough. Maybe the Leafs knew if they were going to overspend, they could do it on a better player. They did do it on Phaneuf. He might be the best on the team, that does not mean he is a great player.

Georgia is a country without an economy. Their GDP is less than 10% of the Ukraine. Not 10% less than Ukraine, less than 10% of the total. Nobody cares. It;s a big mistake to walk away from Ukraine, and I predict that Kazakhstan will be next. They have a much larger economy, bigger than Ukraine, and must be crapping their pants.

I disagree with Harper on this issue, and I will vote for him. I don';t think he gives a s**t either way. But as has been said, it plays well to some. -
Or they learned from their Phaneuf experience...... UFA money is not often indicative of value. Or do you think David Clarkson was a good deal?
