  1. Yes exactly. Good pitchers are expensive, either by trade of free agency.. You have to give somehting to get one via tarde. Tulo is really good, and is locked down for five more years. Anybody that needs hitting and a great fielder will want him. There are only 3 ways for the Jays to get better pitching. Prospects, trades and free agents. Of course AA is looking at all three. The Jays have nobody left on the farm as prospects. They cannot afford to solely buy a new staff, they'lll have to trade too and he is a prime candidate . We also have people able to step into his shoes on the field- Goins.,
  2. Why on earth would we need another middle of the order power hitter like Davis?. The only thing he would bring is a left side hitter. Tulo is a superb fielder, bats close to .300 with power, runs well and has been an allstar 5 out of the last sixc years. I'm not sure you get better than that. His $20m contract is not expensive and goes for a few years, both are desireable. The only reason Colorado dumped him is that that cannot afford him longterm, Reyes made the same money but for less term. Yes, I know Cecil si their seventh ining guy. There is no reason to believe that they would have put another lefty in after 6+ innings of lefty. By the time Gibby awoke from his slumber on the bench the damage was done. Gibbons was watching the pitch count and hoping Price would get a win finally, not paying attention to what KC has done so many times before. I agree Price will be on a short leash - from the opening pitch. The problem is the same one that happily did not materilaize with Estrada: what to do if he fails early in this elimination game? The answer is going to be : Stroman. Game 7 is a probklem for another day, one that Gibbons and the Jays would take. Meanwhile, the Mets are resting their excellent pitching and setting up their rotation as they wish.
  3. Canada is likely to look even more angry and divided on regional lines than today.
  4. The Jays urgently need and want both of them. Price will be in the $175 million range for 7 years, perhaps higher. He wants to play in Socal, and there are 3 contending teams in California now. If the Jays want a pitcher of that quality, that is the cost- at least. But look what is coming for them in terms of contracts soon, with some very big raises expected Donaldson, Bautista, EE, Estrada,Revere, Pillar, Cecil , Goins etc. The jays have a bunch of big decisions ahead- and not all those people will still be here next year or the one after. Which is a better prospect as a backup or starter in the outfield: Saunders or Pompey? If you trade Bautista for pitching, you'll want both of them. Bautista is very tradeable now, he is still producing and is still much more than just a hitter.. He can easily get 3 years at $15M per. Tulo? What can any excellent player be traded for? The answer is 'other good players and specifically pitching'. He is one of the ebst potion players in the game, a potent hitter and has a long term contract commensurate with his status. He is defintiely tradeable! The Cecil injury did not 'kill Torontos chances'. He would have been of no help in any of these games, he pitches one inning. He does a great job this year, but the weaknesses in both starting and bullpen are far more than one short innings guy. They surprised me yesterday, I thought they were done. Now they have to win two games, which is easier than three. And their starting pitching is as good as they could hope for with Price and Stroman. They may not win in KC, but had the good sense to leave the home crowd happy in 2015 with a big win at Rogers stadium. Go Jays
  5. Gibbons at least had the wit not to commit suicide completely- he still has Estrada and his two closers ready to go. Both Sanchez and Osuna apparently have minor injuries. The Royals have simply been much better, and have exposed the holes in the Jays repeatedly. And the holes are: a) hate to say I told you so, but the pitching is not up to this, starters or bullpen. management/strategy- you have to make runs at this level, and Gibbons just won't do it. See how their number 3 hitter Cain squares around to bunt....can you even imagine Bautista doing that in any situation? After dissecting the Jays in Games 1 and 2, they nearly came back from waaaaaay back in Game 3. And Game 4 was their answer to 'oh boy now the Jays have momentum'. The Jays can still win it of course. I just don't see how. The thing the Jays have moving forward this off season is some depth in position players. They'll need it as trade bait and money to buy some urgently needed pitching. They emptied their larder of prospects to get this far, now they'll have to give up some good players to start over. Call me crazy, but thwe two guys they can move for something decent are Bautista and Tulo. Goins and Travis make a good middle infield at a fraction of the price. And Bautista is getting old... Donaldson can move to #3 spot in the order and Travis to #2. Pompey and Carrera can platoon in right field. They must buy some arms. The only starter that is likely to be back next year is Stroman. Buehrle, Estrada, Price, and likely Dickey are all gone. I don't knwo if you can add Hutchison to the huge pile of disastrous pitching prospects yet, but he s certainly circling the drain. There is no reason to keep Tepara, Loup, Hawkins, delabar or Jenkins Lowe is UFA and not very good. Hendriks and Francis, maybe. Not many left!
  6. I am the Independent vote. I would have voted for a mainstream party candidate, as I usually do, but the guy was just so incredibly creepy it was not going to happen.
  7. crushed, Pitching, as always. I don't see how the Jays come back from this loss.
  8. I have seen it, and it was a perhaps a 6.5 out of 10 which is moderate on my scale. It is at the same time a movie that is best on the big screen, but the 3D did not add much. It will lose much when some of our members view it on their Apple watches. Another one I've seen lately that would rate perhaps a 9 is Sicario. For all you patriots out there, it is directed by Canadian Denis Villenueve. If you give a shit about Canadian movies, you will remeber Villeneuve from the wonderful Incendies a few years ago. Sicario is dark, morally ambiguous, beautifully shot and has a soundtrack as stark and glorious as the visuals. It does not give you any easy answers. And Benenicio Del Toro is as great as he almost always is in a movie. It is like No Country For Old Men in many ways. <<<<< this is a test. If you liked NCFOM, go to Sicario. If you did not like NCFOM, stay home.
  9. No, I don't love him. I'd rate him as perhaps slightly above average. But his career is hardly waning. Like many if not all actors, he has had some fine roles and some turds. Nothing new or unique there. Nor is there anything new or distinctive about his activism, he was being openly mocked about it 12 years ago. "Loved" in Hollywood does not mean he gives me or anybody a boner. Loved in Hollywood means he is an influence on money without having to spend any. That is power, and at this time he is near the top of a select few with it. If you don't like 'flourishing' in the context of a an active, well paid and never-out-of work except by choice career(in an industry filled with one and done careers), then pick whatever adjective suits you to describe reality.
  10. An indication of the terror factor in their bullpen is Gibbons bringing in Osuna with a five run lead in the ninth. The announcers were puzzled, they are apparently unaware that there was nothing there except mutts like Hawkins Loup etc. I really hope Tulo has turned a corner and can hit like the player he was in Colorado. It must be great for his confidence to hit another big homer. Tomato can? Young is 11-6 with a lower ERA than Dickey. Bautista has hit .167 against him the last five years. Donaldson has hit just.063 in the same period. I don't take the Royals or anything about them lightly. They are a well balanced team that plays a very aggressive and very successful game, one that got them to Game 7 of the WS last year. It is another must win game for the Jays. Oh, and Cecil is another one inning pitcher. They really miss him, but they just don't have a long relief option and with only 4 starters.....
  11. The question with Dickey is: what do you do if he does not do well early? Bring in Estrada? They just don't have much in their bullpen that is an obvious long relief.
  12. And the Royals started doing what they do on the third time through the order: hit where they are pitched. Price was throwing on the outside all game, so the Royals just started dinking the ball to the opposite field. Funny that Gibbons the former catcher and Martin never noticed that and adjusted. The Jays would be better having Kawasaki or Pennington pitch rather than Loup. Abosultely fucking hopeless.. But congrats to the Royals, they play this game every day to perfection and deserve the 2-0 lead.
  13. And the Jays do it again in the third. Goins , a fast runner, on second with nobody out. He ends the inning standing there after our one two and three hitters take a seat. You just gotta take advantage when you can....
  14. More garbage from Gibbons in the Jays second. Runners first and second, nobody out. Tulo up and hitting a pathetic 2 for 25 in the playoffs. Of course he should be bunting them over. Instead 3 pitches, 3 strikes including a swinging strikeout on a bal that bounces 2 feet in front of the plate. Next batter Martin hits a screamer to shortstop for a double play. If Tulo had bunted them over, the infield would be playing in to stop the run. Martins line drive would have gone to the outfield for two runs. Instead, another opportunity wasted, just like yesterday. Gibbons fault, he knows Tulo is just hopeless right now. Instead of standing with your thumb up your arse waiting for the homer that won't happen in this huge field, MAKE IT HAPPEN!
  15. Don Cherry has been saying it for at least 20 years. The Royals dissected the Jays with their pitching and ability to manufacture runs. Three hits. Failure to advance a single base with two on and nobody out.... The 5-0 score flattered us. And that wait-until-the-end strategy is not going to work. The jays need that big lead early, because coming back on the Royals bullpen is really tough. They lost their closer recently and are still dominant. And I have to comment on the giant rowdy champagne fueled celebrations the Jays have enjoyed after winning their division, and winning the ALDS. Both times they have played like reeking turds after clinching. Maybe they should dial it down a bit and 'act like they've been there before' , even though they haven't. The goal is to win the World Series, not hoist some banner nobody gives a shit about. This game today is critical. After this , the Jays have three home games in a park that is much more friendly to their style. If they can split in KC, it become a best of five with three at home. Gotta win this one or we'll be out shopping for free agent pitchers soon.
  16. They are simialr to guys wildly celebrating the 8th goal in an 8-2 hockey game. Act like you've been here before......
  17. Pedro Martinez used to bean guys for making eye contact with him. I remeber once some guy on the Dodgers winked at him when Pedro missed him high and tight. Next pitch , Martinez drills him in the back, then charges the plate. Right at a guy still holding a bat! Sorry, but I don't buy that Latino players don't know the rules of conduct. Every pro player knows this fully before he gets to MLB level. One of two whom starting at home? The right lineup of starters is likely Estrada, Dickey Stroman and then Price. Rest dictates much of that plus what I said before, but there is another factor. Price started the playoffs as the number 1 in that rotation, and I reckon he has now played himself into #4.
  18. Flourishing in this context means his clout in Hollywood. In 20 years he has gone from playing Edward Pudwhacker to doing whatever he wants whenever he wants. A female sort-of parallel is Jessica Chastain, though she likely makes half what Damon does. He is very close to the top of A list Hollywood actors. "A" list actors are the ones that get paid the most. His activism is hardly new of hardly unique in Hollywood- it is expected there. ETA: De Caprio and Sean Penn are another pair much like him and their extremism has not hurt them in the least. He was openly mocked for his lefty sympathies in Team America- and that was made 11 years ago.
  19. No it isn't. The unwritten rules about hotdogging have been around forever. Nearly half the people in MLB are not Caucasian, so how is it surprising that there are confrontations between Players of different ethnicity.? And there was plenty of action on 'unwritten rules' before the game was even intergrated racially. Give it your best, that dog does not bark. Well, Price was 0 for 6 as a starter in the playoffs and his performance Tuesday hardly inspired confidence. You cannot wait around while somebody finds themselves. I think Gibbons will do whatever he thinks will win, though that was certainly not the case with veteran pitchers through the regular season. He knows Price is almost certainly gone in a couple of weeks in any case. I'll give you my reasoning: Price throws hard, and 50 pitches is certainly enough to cause the minor damage to tissue that determines the five day cycle for starters. Dickey does not throw hard, and with a similar number of pitches he probably will be better physically. A long playoff run is in better shape with both of them at peak form, and early in the series there is no panic.
  20. No, the opposite is true. And they are very very hungry after 10 years of SlimFast.
  21. Would it be prudent to contact Judge Gomery, put him on retainer and ask him to keep his schedule clear? Given the LPC campaign co-chair resignation and Liberal traditions, he is going to be needed again pronto.

If anyone had any doubts that a Trudeau government would be as corrupt as the Wynne Liberals look no further. Too bad the Conservatives haven't been running ads showing Trudeau cozying up to Wynne.

These crooks couldn't even wait till Election Day to start trying to cash in.

Trudeau represents the same old Liberal party which brought you the sponsorship scandal. Selling their influence to the highest bidder – same sh.t different leader.

  22. Somebody phone Judge Gomery and put him on a retainer, on 'standby' status. They'll need him soon enough.
  23. What is your reasoning on starting Price ahead of Dickey, both on short rest given the nature of how they pitch, and on Prices (lack of) performance? The bat flip is a direct 'f**k you' gesture to pitchers and other teams, and has no racial overtones. It is fine to get excited,, considered hotdoggery to flip your bat. They'll bean him next year. Oh well. Bats is being disengenuous when he claims not to remember doing it. On the other hand, he is on our team so I'll forgive him. So is the overly slow home run trot. Jose Canseco used to do it often. I saw him do it in Rogers Centre, after he hit a fifth deck monster shot. The funny thing was that his team was losing about 8-0 in the 9th when he did it. Several Jays were pointing at the scoreboard and laughing at him as he waddled glacialy around the bases.
  24. It was the right call, which is what matters in these things. The ump behind the plate did all the right things, except calling time. Upon review, it would be noted that the calling of time had no impact on the play either- nobody on the Jays made a move toward the ball and the runner would have and did score regradless of what any Jay could have done. The ball was in play and the error was on Martin. He remained in his crouch with a speed demon on third, and was much too casual in tossing the ball back. Odor had a big walking lead, and Josh Donaldson should have been closer to his bag too. Odor was doing what he was supposed to do- run when he could. Another massive choke by a Toronto sports team was averted. Jose earned himself a few bean balls from Texas next year for hotdogging his home run. Go Jays. The Jays are going to start the next series with their pitching rotation a little scrambled, but so will the Royals- who had TWO comebacks in games 4 and 5 of their series to win. The Jays will have to be on the top of their game against the Royals, who have a fantastic bullpen.
  25. t Damon has a flourishing, robust career and his activism is about 2 decades old. Nothing has 'turned'. See the movieTeam America for a hilarious mocking of Damon and others like Alec Baldwin. What would Daniel Craig teach Matt Damon? OP, if you'd like a bit more challenging movie, try Sicario.
