The Best Game You Can Name (general NHL thread)
overthere replied to Black Dog's topic in Travel, Leisure and Sports
Nikitin was not wanted or needed in Columbus because he isn't very good, and did not play much there. Aulie is barely an NHL player and I predict will only make the team if somebody gets hurt. Fayne is an upgrade, a young Ference. The prime benefit to the Oilers from both is that maybe, just maybe they can allow Schultz and Petry to play less minutes and play the transition game they should have been playing. Schultz knows he made a dreadful career mistake in signing with the Oilers and will be gone , perhaps this season. The Oilers did not get Legwand because he didn't want to play here, and took less money in Ottawa. They are about to make another horrible mistake in player development by not sending Dreisatl back to junior. Their centres will be Nugent Hopkins, Dreisatl, and two of these three: Arcobello, Lander, Gordon. Awful. Their defence is a bit better overall though, no more wretched play from the likes of Mark Fraser and Philip Larsen. The goaltending is better too, although neither Scrivens or Fasth has ever had a regular starting job in the NHL. Their forwards still are not good enough. They'll be 13th or 14th by the end, the playoffs are very unlikely. One day they will get to the medicore level. The legacy of Kevin Lowe, Destroyer of Franchises, lives on. -
Should Canada Deploy the DART to Africa?
overthere replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Military deployment? DART water engineers need not kill anybody... it is a humanitarian deployment, in support of a medical crisis intervention. Controlling this epidemic will require many support elements, and clean water on a larger scale than pallets of bottled water is required. We have the capability. There is a need, What is the problem? Why do you hate freedom? -
Harper Government to crack down on public servants -- again
overthere replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Your funniest post yet, in a thread full of howlers. In reality, having extended government service on a resume for a managerial or clerical worker would most likely result in the application for employment being binned forthwith. Public sector workers know that this reality- that unless they have specific technical skills- they need to cling to their jobs like rabid wolverines to a rotting corpse. You're better off with 'ten years in prison' on your CV than 'ten years with increasing resposnsibilities with PWGSC'. -
I like how you speak of yourself in the third person, it is really hip. Signed The Overthere

Should Canada Deploy the DART to Africa?
overthere replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Why would our troops require specific medical training to produce water? They need training to produce the water, which they have now. We are not providing medical treatment, we would be providing water. We do not have an issue with clean water in outbreaks within our border, so your analogy is meaningless. -
How Trudeau is winning my vote
overthere replied to WestCoastRunner's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Is it a) the one from the last Alberta election 2) the one from the last BC election or 3) the one from the Ontario election? Those three really helped reinforce my faith in pollsters. -
We already know that Harper is worse than Hitler. Where would you rank Wally on the scale, with Satan at the bottom and Justin Trudeau at the top?

Should Canada Deploy the DART to Africa?
overthere replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
We send our troops into potentially harmful situations all the time. At least nobody is shooting in this one. Both the locals and the medical teams on the ground have an urgent need for clean water, and we have expertise in this field. What is your specific issue? -
I am going to take my cue on this from the national caucus of the NDP, who hold the national franchise on Outrage Inc. Whatever they say is fine with me.

Should Canada Deploy the DART to Africa?

To prevent cholera. We could do the same in West Africa, where clean water is certainly a problem. As noted, it is a support role we do well. -
I make it a rule never to answer inappropriate questions from anybody, regardless of their presumed authority. I undertsand they have techniques intended to discover if I'm lying about somehting, but I have no duty whatseover to participate. It is absolutely none of their business to question me where I've been or what I was doing outside Canada, beyond y customs decalration which is in writing in front of them, with my passport which details my travels abroad.. The CDN govt does not restrict travel by its citizens to anywhere in the world, so it is none of their business. If they wish to search my baggage or person to establish if I am breaking any laws, I cannot stop that and won't kiss any ass. And really, that is their sole intent so often, pretending they control me in the way pseudo and real cops exerciose authority. They do not control me. They cannot stop me from enetering, only slow me down a bit. And you know what happens? They give it up when they see I refuse to play the cop game of intimidation. I acknowledge I have to do it differently when ebtering other countries because immigration people can deny entry at whim. But not when I enter Canada. And that is a right of citizenship.

could be. Of course, kids from BC would not affect Alberta high school graduation stats. If there was any chance of work in BC, your children wouldn't leave in the first place. In any case, thanks for funding their education. Everybody is welcome, except welfare bums. You can keep those.

DART was in Haiti, with outbreaks of cholera. They should at least deploy their clean water production team. -
I would agree entirely with you. You're also not required to answer any questions from CDN Immigration about where you have been, how long or for what purpose. They do not like it when I tell them bluntly to get on with their actual jobs and stop asking me stupid questions, but eventually they do get on with it.

Alberta has the worst high school graduation record in Canada. Too many young guys leaving school early to take a job that will fund a F-150, beer and weed lifestyle, in the short term at least. I don't know why native born Canadians are so lazy. Easy, entitled lives probably.

Yep. I just it with neither a Nexus card or a passport. No embassy or consulate involved either.

Facts are that the Jays own the title now. I don't think they'll give it up soon. Factoid: the 92/93 Jays World Series Champs were the highest paid team in baseball then... Today, 7 of the 10 teams to make the playoffs in 2014 have lower payrolls than the Jays. Massive fail. Again.

India is a country that is acutely aware, self conscious even, of its shortcomings, achievements and place in the world. Congrats to them for their accomplishment. -

Alberta. We have loads of people from everywhere and need more.

Pompey is yet another in the endless stream of Jays prospects that somehow fail to improve the team. They've got at least two others playing now at the end of another pointless season: Goins and Gose. Both are good fielders, good enough to play in MLB. So far, neither can hit worth shit. Goins had second base wrapped at the beginning of the year, he's headed for a career in the minors at best unless he figures out some way to get on base. Gose is an odd guy. You'd think somebody at this level could do things like bunt , advance the runners occasionally, and display some sense of the game while on base but no...... It's like he is a great athlete who just started playing. Pilar, meh. I'll give Pompey a chance, but there will be no cheerleading until he demonstrates he can hit. The Jays have at least three guys auditioning for center field, Rasmus has been more or less useless there and is thankfully gone. They'll likely need a left felder too, unlikely Cabrera will be back though it is possible. Also quite possible that Bautista will be gone son too, unless they can extend him. The Jays have a new "honour", the longest current stretch in baseball without making the playoffs. Quite an accomplishment.

Complete nonsense. You can legally and freely leave Canada without a passport every time you cross a land border in the USA. Getting into the US without one will be tough, but you have certainly left Canada since there is no passport control on departure. Honest question: have you ever actually left Canada?
-
Wrong. Boarding an aircraft in a foreign country is not the same as entering Canada. I entered Canada without a passport in late August, 2014. Land border, no swimming required.

This is the relevant passage from the Canada Passport Order" para 9 refers to expriation dates and does not affect the power to revoke or refuse to issue a passport to any citizen.
