Navy Seals training in Ontario School
Army Guy replied to Ontario Loyalist's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
I'm with cameron on this one, you could not have read the article, maybe scimmed the first paragraph and made up the rest..... And when your called on it you decide to start slamming people....Your not a liberal are you ? lol -
In peace time, a military court is limited to which crimes it can proscute, for instance lets say in Canada a soldier commits murder, that soldier is arrested and held by the military, if the evidance is strong enough to warrent a trail, then in most cases that members is released from all his military duties, his paper work is then processed to release him from the military. which they are free to be tried as a civilian.... In special duty areas, or on operations the commanding officer does have the powers to try major federal crimes such as rape or murder, that member would then do time in a military instution, I'm not sure on the maximum sentence he is allow to serve in military prison, but it is not very long ...keeping in mind military prison and civilian prison are not the same, military prisoners don't have the same rights and privilages as do civilians prisoners do....after serving this sentence he would then be released from military prison and be once again tried as a cilvilian ...not for the same crimes i should add...allowing him to serve is federal time. this does not happen very often as it is in the military best interest to get this person off the payrolls and tried as a civilian. In times of war, military justice has greater roles and all crimes maybe tried but it gets a little foggy, as we have not really been at war for a long time, so i'd need to look it up.

This issue has myself and many of my section mates torn, not because we do not know right from wrong, but rather we have an emotional attachment. We all agree that the Capt actions were wrong, be it murder or putting someone out of thier misery and pain. one done out of anger and spite, the other out of compasion. As an infanteer i can see both sides, seeing a comrad killed in action, brings about powerful emotions, that cloud normal judgement. just being in combat also clouds ones normal judgement, such as taking a life to ease suffering and pain becomes a compassionate thing to do and while that sounds cold and cruel, so is watching a guy in pain suffer until they pass from thier injuries.... The Laws are very clear on this matter, not only Canadian laws, but also the Genva convention. The Capt actions were wrong. that all being said is we don't know all the evidence, nor the entire story. This could only have come to light a couple ways. Thru the Capts patrol report, which he would have written himself, or another Canadian on patrol with him has come forward, i say that because the Afganis would not have said nothing, as it is common pratice to give no quater to the enemy. This case is being watched very carfully by fellow soldiers, already leary about using some of the ROE, and other actions such as taking of POW's.....a Dangerous combo in combat...as hesitation kills, but also creates a fine line for soldiers, like not taking any POW's in combat period. I just want to piont out here that if he is charged with a federal offense, then the results of this military investagation will be handed over to federal authorities, and the member will be charged and tried in a civilian court. This remark struck me the wrong way as well, you've said in the past that you support the military, but in this comment you clearly do not trust them. "Any" of them to conduct themselfs in a professional manner, by either bringing about justice or finding a solution ensuring that it does not happen again..Anyways sounds like your support is pretty thin.... This is not the first time you have mentioned Canada's reputation, or doing Canada harm. I'd like to remind you that alot of Canada's history, it's reputation, it's moral values have been written by our soldiers, alot more than say the common Canadian citizen acting by themselfs..... As for making more enemies if we have'nt done that yet since we've been here , whats that say about our soldiers actions todate, locking them up in barraks sends what message.....to those that have given so much and asked for little in return....except maybe some respect and acknowledgement...locking them up is not the answer. You mean like this mission to Afgan, during it's conception a majority of Canadians where in fact in favour of the mission....where are we today, and what are Canadians doing about keeping thier good name out of harms way...from a soldiers piont of view, only a very few are concerned enough about our name to take any action, and so far it's been about how we handle POW's, or other minor problems....and when you put this into context ...say again'st sending our own countries soldiers, citizens into a war torn country, expected to take the fight to the enemy with wrong or useless kit.... it sends a clear message.... It's because you have not been in combat, nor has the majority of your training been in closing with and destroying the enemy....and while it may rub you the wrong way, it is nessicary in war, to have that gung ho attitude, to demean the enemy, to create that mental state that they "the enemy" are sub human, scumbags....makes it easier to kill them....which is what our nation sent us over there to do....and while i do not agree with everything Mr Wulf posts, i do see where he's coming from.... I sure that if you have seen the death and destruction that these Taliban and other terrorist have brought upon thier own countrymen , not to mention upon your brothers in arms....then you may have a few chioce words yourself.

What the hell is that suppose to mean.....This is not downtown toronto, there is no one yelling freeze, put your hands up....once you step onto a battlefield it is kill or be killed, you can't just turn your back and say...you can't shot me....Unless you have made it clear that you are surrendering .....your free game, another target...one that recieves bullets until it is no longer a threat.....normally that means 2 or more....sound cold and cruel, it is.... until you've been there. -
Our Neighbours Could Be Terrorists!
Army Guy replied to tamtam10's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I can not believe there are still people who believe that terrorism is not a problem here in Canada. AngusThermopyle and others are right, not only should we be concerned but demanding someone take more action to control these scumbags.....and if it means a few more minutes at the airport or the border crossing so be it....i'd rather donate my time there and feel safe when boarding a plane than find myself looking at a barrel of a pistol, with some terrorist that has strapped explosives to his chest, at 30,000 feet.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_terrorist_attacks_in_Canada Anti Defamation league Tamil tigers. But we are Canadians, and we not only turn the other cheek, we stick our head in the sand, leaving our asses sticking in the wind for these scumbags to pound us when ever they feel like it...we need to put the blame on those that are responsable, for those delays at inconvinences we are forced to endure....we need to piont that finger at those that become involved with terrorists.... We live with terrorist everyday, shit there is a movement in Canada to protect known terrorists and thier families, the Khadrs comes to mind....just once i like this nation to grow some balls and say enough is enough it is time to protect the ordinary citizens of Canada and send these scumbags packing....I'd like to see the Khadrs faces as they stepped off the plane in Afganistan, welcome to your new country....you know the one, that your father died for, that your sons risked everything for.... The terrorist are more familar with our laws and regulations or lack of, than most of our citizens hence why they are here, not only raising funds but training , gather up arms to futher thier cause in some forgotten land, to spread thier grief and terror on others... we need to wake up and smell the coffee....we need to draw a line in the sand, and just say your not welcome...heres your plane ticket back to the place you came....pack up your kids, your relatives, your entire pile of shit and get out.... thanks for coming out but the game is over.... After all are we not at war with all terrorism... -
Did'nt know where to stick this, but since i'll be traveling why not here....I'm going home for my HLTA soon, one of the lucky ones that will be home for X-mas. Can't wait to get home to some normal routines, my wifes to do list, and my kids, and some of that great Canadian brew we call beer....been a bad week here, i'm sure by now you've all read about it..when you get a chance raise a glass for them, they where friends, comrads, patriots , some of Canada's finest , anyways, enough of that.. I want to wish all you guys and girls a merry x-mas, and thank you for taking my mind off things here, and bringing it back home, keeping not only myself but my guys in touch with what is going on in our great nation, for that i thank you all .... For those of you that support the soldiers and or and the mission, i hav'nt seen this many parcels ever....i want to thank you, for it is why we do what we do, in the name of our country....your contributing to our moral, and good will thanks again... I know what i'm doing here is not support by all of you, and although i may not agree with all your ideas and thoughts , i want to thank you for keeping me grounded, when i need to be, for making me question my beleifs, ensuring they are still valid and for giving my platoon something worth while to discuss, in our very few hours of boredom, and down time. Anyways thanks to all of you, i hope and wish that you and yours have a fantastic holiday period, and if and when i get some time to myself i'll pop on line once again....

What is it that Quebec has to gain from separation, other than the obvious freedom from english Canada, but what else do they hope to gain....

Army Guy replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
OK , i'll buy the fact that he may or may not have been overly exposed to western moral values. But spending most of his life in Islamic countries, he must have been exposed to all of thier teachings, from the extreme views to include what we consider moderate. Also the group he was with knows what NATO considers right and wrong and the punsihments they can expect...for instance it is widely known that anyone caught planting IEDs is not expected to live thru that ordeal, it is taken very very serious by NATO. -

I guess we could also say that a greater majority also did not want Layton, or Dion period.... I get the math and for those that refuse to believe thier equation works both ways. Harper + Layton =greater than Dion, meaning The vast majority did not want Dion or Layton in power depending on who you use in the equation...., if you want to combine party numbers...... And i suppose the AK-47 found a few feet away from where Omar was found was not his either....But i guess we will never know, you see in combat there is no time to gather evidance for a court case IE finger prints, DNA off wpns etc...In combat you are guilty of being in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people ....He knew in advance that this seris of huts were used to create IED's, he had been there before that much is proven from the tape that was found....on this tape he has stated he made IED's, even a filmed himself and others planting them on a road not far from these mud huts....This is a terrorist activity, unlike in civilian law, in combat a soldier can proscute a terrorist with up to and including deadly force at anytime....not just at the time of the crime...So he may not be guilty of throwing a grenade, or even firing a wpn during the attack in question....however this tape does prove he is guilty of terrorist activities. Do i think his case is being handle properly, NO i do not, i think he should have been declared a enemy combatant and locked up until the conflict is over...however, i'm not in charge and it is only my personal opinion which counts for nothing in this case... -

Army Guy replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Come on Oleg even you can come up with better, read some of statements about our young Mr Khadr...he is no hero, Afgan army forces suspected them as being armed and approached the house to talk, they were greeted with a hail of gun fire....they where not there protecting anything, it was a safe house one in which they built IED's.....an activity that is illigal, he belonged to terrorist group also illigal, he planted IED's also illigal....He is a terrorist scumbag, that some Canadians have fallen in love with like some women fall in love with harden criminals....stop the love affair, and see him for what he is....a terrorist.. -
While it is true i don't have a say in who is going to be minister of what, my vote does count for my MP, but his party as well....so i do have a chioce....
-
If that is what is called for then Yes, let me ask you this last time you voted, did you do so, thinking that maybe my party would form a coalition, one beyond my control, not of my choosing....i mean really are liberal and NDP that close in thinking and policies.... I not sure all PC voters agreed to that when it happen. So nothing more than Dion and Layton desparate attempt to share the PM's office....not what is good for Canada, but rather to allow them to have thet're name s on the PM's door...and the keys to the private bathroom.

I guess we could also say that a greater majority also did not want Layton, or Dion period.... Yes because it was the Harpers government that put this boy on a battle field so many miles from our nation, it was harper that enlisted this boy into a terrorist organzation, it was harper that forced this boy to fight against Canadian soldiers..... It was Canada that sat on it's asses while we paid out good tax dollars to feed , cloth, and nuture in our hospitals the sons of this terrorist family.... But this is not enough for you, , now we must feel ashamed at not reuniting all of them under one roof, and while we turn the other cheek, what is it that this family has planned for Canada and it's peaceful citizens....is it the same respect, kindness, hospitality...or are they going to continue thier support of terrorists and thier activities. -
We may not directly elect the government and all that will be employed in running this nation....but our vote for our MP of our choosing is also a vote for the type of government we want, be it liberal , PC, NDP what ever....And forming a coalition government takes that away....kind of makes voting a mout piont really. So i agree with Historybuff, it may be legal to do so, but it does not make it right.... There is still alot of unanswered questions before the GG steps into the S Storm, what exactly is the coalitions solution to our economic crises, and is it actually better than Harpers plan....or is it just a power grab....

Army Guy replied to Oleg Bach's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So now your saying we had Canadian soldiers in Afgan before 9-11, that the Americans preplanned the invasion.... that because we had 100 Canadian soldiers serving in the US they must have been special forces involved in a major coup of all countrys to pick it was Afganistan....rich in nothing more than POO dust..... OK while we all have our tin foil hats on, and pulling facts out of our asses ....your right it was preplaned, the taliban had found out the Moon landings where fake, in fact the actual footage was filmed in Afganistan, the Taliban where blackmailing them for trillions of dollars....The US government agreed that the moon landing secret must be kept at all costs....so an invasion was planed, Canada agreed to invade because so many Canadian sciencetist names where attached to this vile cover-up....and well Mr Crietien uncle was one of them....it was done for the Queen, our country, and the liberal party..... -

I never said it started out as a humanitary mission, it started out as a combat mission, and was changed intol a combat mission with exception of the rebuilding and humanitarian assistance added. Bullshit, give us a quote.... There is a good fall back postion to take....we always need more troops and equipment....so sorry we are giving you a job that requires 5000 troops to complete here is 2500 make us proud....somwewhat like giving a contractor half the money you need to build your house....and expecting results the next day....only a contractor can tell you to stuff it...soldiers can not... And when one of our nations soldiers complains he is told suck it up, we gave you a mission now carry it out....it is what "we" the people of Canada want....A while that is what the people want they are to damn lazy to make thier voice heard.... No your just the guy that is going to whine and complain about how Canada is run, not willing to do anything about it, just happy to have something to whine about... Yes we reason why everyday, but our very existance depends on the people we serve...and if you don't have our backs then really we stuck out in the wind....alot of people only pay that responsabilty lip serve... -

Thats your answer "THERE ARE DIFFERENT KINDS OF WINNING", so tell us what kind of win is Canada looking for....stocks in oil, pipelines, resources, boosting our military industry....what if anything could be worth the funding we have already spent.....what is the gain.... If it is not a military win....there must be some economic benifit which is what ? please tell me why your first statement is not retarded.... According to who ? certainly not NATO, nor the PM, so who thinks that victory is impossiable ?....We already established that talks did not accomplish anything, you said you read the link, the Taliban are still not interested in talks....which kind of leaves our current action the only action available right now.....As far as our nation pissing money away, 20 dollars a year out of your taxes is a major investment for a guy like you....and those lives that are pissed away, are our nations soldiers lives, who have volunteered thier time and efforts, time and time again, but that fact blows right by you.... Thats right, we always seem to attack something we don't know anything about, and yet i've seen war close and personal, not as a cook as you suggested, but as an infanteer....mout piont really when there is not front lines, and even our cooks have fired rounds in anger....and trust me if peace was to break out over the world tomorrow i'd be the first to lay down my arms and join the unemployment line.... but in reality thats not going to happen anytime soon is it.... -
Afghanistan Wants Us Out - we insist on staying?
Army Guy replied to Oleg Bach's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You know as well as i do that talks did not accomplish anything....in fact it was decided that the military opition was the only one left.... Is that what you think.....politicians know where which side thier bread is buttered, and they listen to the people and if the people don't support the mission then there is no money bags for anything.... That has got to be one of the most retarded things i've heard todate....Why would a nation get into a war without first exploring all the other alternatives....2 nd why get into a war if you have no intentions of winning it.... Talks with the taliban -
Afghanistan Wants Us Out - we insist on staying?
Army Guy replied to Oleg Bach's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Give me a break, Canadians have prided themselfs on our peacekeeping efforts for over 50 years, which are military interventions....which have seen Canadian soldiers in combat on many occasions, our peacekeeping memorial has the names of those that have perished in those efforts. So this is nothing new to the Canadian people, they knew that fact before they decided to send us over there... The Afgan people saw NATO as a knight in shinning armour, what other organization could effectivly bring peace to this nation...we gave them hope....And now with this mission going on for more than 7 years, one of the main reasons is it is not a popular war, and therefore not recieving the attention it deserves....we agreed to help, we agreed to give them security....we need to keep our promise... As for talks with the taliban, it worked out well during the beginning of the mission, i mean we got what we wanted right...we were handed those responsiable for 9/11 right....Do you really think the taliban are interested in talking right now ? when NATO is stumbling over itself, because it can't mange to garner support for the mission....they know it is just a matter of time.... -
Afghanistan Wants Us Out - we insist on staying?
Army Guy replied to Oleg Bach's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It is nice when we can piont the finger at a certain group and shout "you are to blame for all this", it was your idea, your lack of planning, your mismangement yada yada yada....It's human nature , we need someone to blame our wrongs on, if not our government then the Americans.... One day i hope that Canadians will be able shoulder thier own responsabilty, and own up to thier wrongs.... But lets take a look at this mission, at the start the Majority of Canadians were supporting it, it was a noble cause, finally a mission that could not be blamed on oil, or other needed resources, but a humanitary mission that all Canadians could stand behind....that most of the world stood behind....troops and equipment poured in Afgan, along with large bags of cash.....Soon we where finding out that the Afgan people are not perfect, coruption runs rampat, thier values and morals do not match ours to a T....thier poor, uneduacated....And instead of digging in to help them over come these issues our support begins to dwindle....to the piont now where a majority of Canadians no longer support helping these people who have not changed over night, but instead are the same as the day we agreed to help them....And now troops and equipment are slowed to a trickle, and the cash...has almost stopped.... I keep hearing that this conflict can not by won by conventional means, this coming from whom ? military experts, someone schooled in military sciences....The military has been giving you the answers, they give them to the media daily....WE NEED MORE TROOPS....and we quickly turn the page or change the channel...What do they know we mutter....Afgan is old news we want a change.... Yes our government does have to shoulder alot of this missions failures....but they are politions interested in keeping thier jobs....and really memic what the general public wants to hear....What do you think would happen if Mr Harper decided he was doubling or tripling our troop strength in Afgan tommorow....would he find himself in another election, i'd bet alot of good money he would....So the majority has his hands tied ...that majority is you and others like you....time to take your share of the blame.... PM Karzai is frustrated and so are the people of Afgan, that it is taking so long to finish the fight with the taliban and insurgents, and yet most western nations are giving as mush as thier public can bear, as the mission is not only unpopular here in Canada but world wide....what we are giving is just not enough....With a new US pres it is time to stop making Afgan our hobby, and start making this our priority....and get the job done.....I've said this a million times already....it does not matter how well our forces do on the battle field....it all hinges on support we recieve back home...support for the mission....with out it this mission will end in failure....and when we decide to record that in our history books....i hope the blame is distributed to all that have contributed to it's failure.... OH don't get me wrong i'am a big fan of health care, although i was shock at the amounts being pumped into it....and the current status of our health care....DND has approx 80 to 85 of all the governmental infra structure, and it does not spend that much ,as say 48.1 bil spent on O&M for hospitals....
