  1. No it was the US government that decided, along with the US courts. I believe they should not be involved, only because of the lack of experience and misconception from the civilian side of the house if say a harsh sentence was handed down....it would be much better percieved if they where tried in a civilian court, with civilian staff.... all that being said, any crime that happens in a threater of operations can be tried by a military court, under the conventions and inter national law....When was the last time someone was tried under the genva convention ?...and how many Canadians understand that law?...or how it works....The military should have done the smart thing and passed it on to a civilian court.
  2. Really just the tories....or di the liberal party sign up on that as well... Is that why you asked me, so you could set me up for that come back....good call Perhaps we should a little into our past history when these where actually funded depts, cut to the bone and those resopnsibilties given to the military....but yes they should be stripped along with the funding and made into thier own depts.... Until our military is capable of some of it's basic mandates....maybe even as far as carring it's own, in regards to all these treatiers it's signed... well if you can't defend them, it kind of makes them 2 and fiddle does it not....
  3. The key word here is prisoner....not child soldier....And i will agree with you on serveral pionts our nation should have done something well before the piont we did act, but it needed to set an example for all that set down the same path as the Khadrs..... We should have determined if he was a Combatant, or a terrorist....i think that has been done...and since terroist activites are criminal in nature he should be called upon to answer for those charges....just like any other minor...not given a pass because WE think he is a child soldier....because he's not, he's a terrorist, a criminal no more no less....
  4. Name one Canadian that is NOT aware that the government wastes bils of our tax dollars....What i find funney we can make demands to the major car companies...that they change before we lend them more....and yet as tax payers we can't find the couage to demand that our government changes the way we do business.... Cut out all the crap that really has no DND fuction, such as emergancy preparedness, have foreign affairs pay for the Afghan conflict and all other deployments etc etc etc...bils of dollars out of DND's budget gone to other agencies... SAR effort, is not a military project, it's a coast guard one....but if you think the Military has got problems....can you imgine trying to outfit the coast guard for SAR.... Fisheries patrol, here is another great example of a mis used military resource....can't imgime giving this to say fisheries, or hey the coast gaurd.... Comparing our cold war spending is unfair...we where not pulling our wieght there as well, so it would be easy to surpass our spending there... the Budget needs to be large enough to allow DND to grow, into what we don't know until there is a white paper produced....the last one was in 97 i think and it was basically thrown out after it was written....but without direction what do you want us to be... I think if we as Canadians did our research and found out just how bad the state our military is in, it would be the biggest line item in the budget....it's in critical condition, and it does not look good....
  5. Do you think we signed onto that agreement with child terrorist in mind....or does everyone under the age of 18 get a blank check....thats the problem with your agreement it does not mean squat on the battle field....it does nothing to protect these children in a threater of war....and it does nothing to prevent some group, or nation from taking advantage of it....
  6. Both actually....And as much as i'd like to pin it on one party, i can't...Canadians as a whole are to blame....There has been alot of talk on tax relief for the major car companies and how they do operate tax payers demanding major cuts and choices be made....but why can't we demand the same level from our own government....regardless of how poorly our governments do with our tax dollars....mistakes on thier part just mean higher taxes later....
  7. Did'nt someone say that the GST was suppose to be scrapped....during election time was it not...damn i feel used.... It would not matter if we where delivering milk....in Afghan anything outside the front gate is a COMBAT MISSION...it requires heavily armed soldiers, armoured vehs, helo support, intel assets etc etc etc ....and thats outside of one of the largest military installations in Afghan....much larger than anything in Canada..... So while our nations leaders have decided to call it balancing our military efforts and development efforts , to us soldiers we still get mounted up, with 50 lbs of combat supplies load enough explosives to destroy a small town or village and get ready to do battle with our friends the taliban....only difference is now we dig wells during the day, while they pioson them at night....and fight when we should meet.... We don't need a new role, or fancy rewording of the old one...what we need is someone with the balls to finish the job....and give us the support we need to do that, so we don't have to come back....
  8. While your numbers are correct, what is misleading is what our DND actually pays for, compared to other nations....when you take a look at the DND budget break down you'll see that there is not much wiggle room in there for anything like major equipment purchases....or for that matter the spare parts we need to keep the entire fleet of vehs running...
  9. while true we have purchased 6 Ch-47D models for stop gap measures, these where to get refitted and upgraded into F models once the intial new F models where recieved... Strong rumors have it now they will be sold to help pay off the New F Models.... And rumors within parliment is the entire deal will be shelved, as they think there will not be a requirement for Chinnoks after the Afghan mission is reduced in 2011....
  10. " So when does he magically get this responsiability, when he is 16.... What a load of shit....What has Canadian society done in regards the Khadr family, other than ensure they are well looked after, welfare checks are paid, and thier medical status looked after etc etc etc ....what action have they taken to ensure this does not happen again, that these children are not subjected to any more brainwashing, radical religious teachings....we can't have it both ways...you either help these kids and make the tough chioces to ensure thier safety or you give them back to thier parents control after you deport them.... And just how are you going to do that ? and i don't mean to sound to cold hearted but once they are armed and show any hostile intentions they are targets, which are dealt with by any of the thousands of wpns man has devised to kill each other with....there is no ID check prior to getting on the battle field....you stay alive by killing as many of them as you can, as quickly as you can....those that survive and are taken prisoner thats when the ID check is done....thats when they are separated from the herd....thats when they get thier special treatment....but that does not happen to often .... Modern Combat is very quick and very deadly, and not many survive....you want to stop the use of child soldiers you'll have to do it before they get to the battle field, by punshing all those that use them.....
  11. Actually i love the country, it's a lack of faith in our justice system, and the lack of faith of the people to stand up for what is right. You do know that he has brothers , and they also where involved in the fighting and terrorist activties in Afghan, and none of them to date have been accused or charged with anything. And yet here they sit in Canada ,CSIS checks cut ,medical bills paid, welfare checks cut, living the dream.....sound like justice to you...I wonder just what our wounded soldiers recieve for thier services rendered....
  12. I agree molly 1000%, i aslo agree that would should not be closing our eyes to any of his crimes....that he should be called upon to answer them in a court of law....But we both know is that he won't....he will be held as accountable as his brothers....and the whole thing swept under the table....
  13. quote]Let's take a look at how laws are coming from ... full of cheating: No, you should answer the question, can a Canadian citizen start the processes to change a law or have a law created....Yes or no.... Wow 30 years, Are you saying Tiananmen square did not happen, that all those pictures and vid taken are fake....what about these facts... the tibiten budists, is that all fake.... Freedom of speach as long as your not talking about the current government... Freedom of movement....has to be governmental aprroved... China executes approx 10,000 persons every year.... China China[ Hell goggle is full of how well china treats it's people....Are you saying they are all wrong....or perhaps you've swallowed that proganda pill the chinese government has been shoveling....but i have one more question, if Canada is soooo bad, why did you leave China, and come here.
  14. What would be considered beyond a reasonable doubt, him being captured after a fire fight that took the lives of serveral NATO and Afghan soldiers, the fact that an recently fired AK -47 was found no more than a few feet from young Mr Khadr. then there is the fact that within the ruins of the bombed out compound NATO soldiers found plenty of evidence of bomb and IED making materials plus serveral tapes, one staring our young man mr Khadr making IED's and then planting them, even bragging about how he waqnted to kill NATO and American troops.....the tape also stares a few of his buddies, however they were killed in the same fire fight.... In Afghan he was guilty enough to have been shot, and yet here we break out the emotions and suddenly he is just a kid, with rights of a nation he barely knows, with moral values he does not share but rather wants to destroy.... We already know the outcome of any Canadian trail, it's been pre written with his brothers....it does not matter if you have waged war with our nations soldiers, it does not matter if you have committed treason to the very nation you claim as yours....it just does not matter, we will harbour them all, and treat them as one of our own....
  15. I don't recall spouting off any irrelevent ideas, returning him to face justice in the country in which the crime was commited is i believe in inter national law and agreements signed by both countries....the rest of your post actually mirrors mine... What should concern us all is that justice is served fully....and not just swept under the carpet as not to offend anyone, as we have done with others in the same family....It sends a clear message to the rest of the world we don't have the nuts to bring about justice....That terrorist are welcome in our country....That we actually care more about what happens to bad guys than we do our own soldiers....
  16. In the near future our nation is going to have to make some hard decisions in regards to this case. Ones that will reflect how we treat terrorists or enemy combatants. Many different groups from many different countries will be watching these proceedings very closly....as they will have an impact on future operations...I don't think our legal system or our people are up to the challage in making the hard chioces....instead i see a major payout to the khadr family and a "I"M SORRY"after all it is what we do best.....And our nations soldiers are not going to look all that favourable to that decision, when they have recieved a small payouts for missing limbs or severe PTSD... I think we are all getting confused in what laws and conventions prisoners are afforded regardless of contry of orgin....If we where smart we return him to Afghanistan where the crimes where commited, and let them test thier justice system... Canada is just looking to repeat the same mistakes as the US did in thier attempts to bring justice about....trying to equate US civil law with inter national law and the conventions regarding persons in combat...or trying to uphold the same standards of evidence and investagation.
  17. BJRE: Are you kidding me....your biggist complaint is that the RCMP where doing thier job, enforcing the law.......and you do know that laws can be changed and there is a process for doing that...and it can start with one ordinary citizen just like you..... but you already knew that right....you were just performing your public duty in informing the forum on the status of our government services all geared to imped every day Canadians lives....Such as enforcing the laws, got to suck when the very laws we all agreed to live by actually get enforced.... Perhaps you should use goggle to do some research on your whinning , sorry informing....the only example you gave was one out of the States...and how old was that...perhaps you could stay on topic and give us a Canadian example.....of how Canadian RCMP actions even come close to the abuses handed out in say, Iran, Iraq, China, Russia, where the little things in life mean so much, like getting beat for what your wearing, who your with, or speaking out again'st the very governments you compare us with... Yes Canada may not be perfect, but when you compare it to alot of the other nations making up our globe....you'll find out just how good you have it....of course you don't have to take my word for it, travel and see for yourself....See why so many Canadians are proud to well ...just be plain old Canadians...
  18. When i first read this i thought what a freaking troll but i wanted to give you the benifit of the doubt.... Are you a Canadian citizen ? if so they are your troops, just like the Canadian flag is our nations flag, just like the RCMP are our national police force ...you may not like it, but thier your troops.... you lost me here, what are you implying.... As for winning or lossing i'll let you figure that one out....
  19. Mr Harpers statement was not very popular with the troops, which ran a couple days after we had had a Ramp Ceremony for a couple of our comrads....over there, there is no second place, no medal for just coming out, everyday is a Struggle...it was a blow to moral that was for sure...it was a mistake on his part, once the soldiers start questioning thier sacrafice, Canada's contribution will be over....
  20. Leafless: I wish , Soldiers do recieve a bonus, which is based on many different factors such as how many tours of duty you have completed, The risk factor of the tour, etc etc also included into that is our taxes are returned while in threater....so you might top out at 12 to 14 k in bonuses and 8 to 10 back in taxes deducted....in all, a guy with 6 to 8 tours might get 25 K while a guy on his first tour might get 0nly 15 k... Not alot of money when you consider you may have to earn that by giving your life up.
  21. Sorry link is broken.... The Support Our Troops decal getting stuck to all Saskatchewan government vehicles isn't getting a warm response from everyone. Regina resident Allan Taylor said he supports the troops but opposes the war in Afghanistan and questions why the stickers are going on public vehicles. Taylor said he would have no problem with government workers or anyone else putting the decals -- bearing a yellow ribbon plus some green from the Saskatchewan flag -- on their personal vehicles. "But I don't think it should be on something that's owned by all the people of Saskatchewan," said Taylor, adding polls have shown many others share his viewpoint on the war. Taylor's concerns were echoed by the Council of Canadians. "We see it as not a smart initiative for the province of Saskatchewan to be taking," said Sheila Muxlow, the group's Edmonton-based prairie organizer. While the decals are often called a show of support for the troops and not necessarily the war, Muxlow said the council doesn't feel that's the case. "To see a support the troops campaign happen now, it's inevitable that it's going to be linked to the mission where our troops are most actively involved," she said. However, Premier Brad Wall said he has no concerns about the government's decision to display the stickers on government vehicles. "We're supporting those troops in what they're doing whether we support the mission or not," he said. "We're also supporting what they're doing with respect when they're helping out with the flood situation, when they're doing what they can in domestic issues," Wall said. "I'm very comfortable with it." NDP Leader Lorne Calvert said he understands and supports the sentiment of showing support for Canada's troops. But he said the decals also a present a policy issue. "Once you begin to use public property for any cause, good or bad -- in this case good -- you open yourself to a difficult, I think, challenge," said the Opposition leader, adding he doesn't interpret the stickers as supporting war although some others will. The issue of "Support Our Troops" stickers on municipal vehicles has sparked debate in many Canadian cities. The Alberta government said last year that employees could put Support Our Troops decals on their government vehicles, but on a voluntary basis. -- With files from James Wood
  22. I along with dozens of soldiers are getting tired of all this polictical double speak...a support your troops sticker or what ever you have means just that....i don't care what you think it should means, what your neibour thinks it means ....those of us that can read english or french knows exactly what it says...."Support your troops" It does not say, vote cons, or NDP sucks, or liberal are human to, i i like to blow small countries up....no it clearly states "support your troops" i've got 4 on my truck, need one take it i can get more....Oh ya i got another sticker on my truck it's the Canadian flag, it used to mean we where a nation that could reach out to anyone in need, a nation that stood up for the small guy, a nation that could accomplish anything it set it's mind to.....perhaps someone can tell me what that now means.... stickers
  23. I think i know what he means Kimmy, been having a real tough time adjusting to food here in Canada, since i got back and well it's left me a little no i'd say alot gassy....in fact i just had a very explosive moment just awhile ago....could i've just had a real event ? i'm scared now my son is grinning at me and flicking a lighter....
  24. Actions always speak louder than words, actions like rocket attacks, bombers, murders, the list is long for both sides....perhaps if the Hamas surrundered thier arms, and willing to talk without violence there may be peace....until then there will always be conflict...ball is in thier court, or is that a rocket.....
  25. Your right they are my words, pluck from his sentences formed to create a picture of a helpless little girl...one that should have been dressed in a prom dress and dating the boy next door....so while those are my words i did not conjure up that same image.... instead of the image she should be remembered as a soldier, yes a 100 lb soldier with 40 lbs of kit and equipment on, armed with a C-7A2 rifle doing something she loved to do, something she excelled at doing, serving her Nation... Perhaps the rifle remark was filled with some Testosterone, but it does not translate into you must have a set of nuts in order to serve your nation....Canada does have serving female soldiers in all of thier Combat arms trades, including Infantry, Armoured Corps, Arty, and Combat Engineers...they also serve in the Airforce flying Combat CF-18, and serve on Combat ships, with one exception Subs, due to limited quaters....there is no failure in that except we as a nation except anyone interested in defending thier nation.... But your suggesting that the entire project is a failure, perhaps they've captured all the women that where interested in performing those tasks....perhaps the rest of the military also has as many as they can capture....So while the 2 % mark may look like a failure to many who want to twist it into that...i see it as an opportunity for those that chose to serve, a chance to do so....or are you again'st that ? Canadian Combat arms consists of Infantry, Armoured Corps, Arty corps, and Combat Engineers....each componet is thrown together into a battle group, and each one will see direct enemy action at one piont on the battle field..... Yes, it can , those women are serving thier Nation in the Jobs they chose to do, the jobs they wanted to do....and they are doing it as well or better than thier male counter parts....OR they would not be doing it....because lives are on the line...why is it so hard to believe that a women can do the job as well as a man....keep in mind there are lots of 100 lb men given the same chance.... Recruiting is not the problem, it's training them thats the problem not enough instructors....Recruiting can only recruit what the training system can train, as it is there are up to a year or more back logs in the training cycle..... I don't profess to speak for all in the forces, but i just spent 7 long, hard, dusty months in Afghan, and iteracted with dozens of women, in all trades and not once did i have any problems because someone was a women....So when the metal meets the bone it is the counter view we should be all concerned with, not a bunch of numbers , not some old Archaic attitude, these women have put just as much into this mission as thier male counter parts or more just to remain even.. Like i said before this is my view, and my view only and while it may not be supported across the forces by every soldier, it is policy and it is law...and it is enforced thru out the chain of command without question...every soldier will be tried on thier own merits....unless you got something your not sharing.... Once again your Data on Ground combat forces is incorrect....current there is American and british women serving with thier Armoured , Arty forces, within the IDF there is Women serving with thier Arty and Armoured forces....if you'd like i can send pictures....in fact Janes used to have a complete spread on an entire female IDF tank crew testing out the new Merkarva 4....They have currently no Women serving with the Infantry, or Spec forces.... Ground combat in todays termilogy includes Infantry, Armoured, Arty, Combat Engineers, Attack helo, fighter A/C, pretty much any one that will enter the battle space, and yet with the exception of the Infantry there is women serving in all those that you listed...and yet these same countries also hire on women to perform as mechanics medics clerks etc etc in most cases fighting right next to the very soldiers they themselfs are not allow to become.... Todays battle space in Afghan starts at the front gate, which includes that other 12 % of women in the military you've mentioned making up the support trades needed for the Front line guys to get the job done, from bullets to beans, to fuel all delivered on those roads you hear so much about....all of that is done with a mixed crew, not intentional, just soldiers doing thier jobs be it man or women.... I guess to sum it all up, you should ask these guys that prepare all this facts and figures if they've breached a door with a female soldier, or have they meet any of our female soldiers, and did they once have a problem that could not be sorted out....I invite any of those suits down to the RCR lines and to soldier with one of our female soldiers for a day...that should put to rest any concerns about having front line soldiers as women...they are there because they want to be...cross them and you'll find yourself on the floor holding on to 2 grape fruit sized testicles.... I guess it's bad enough just trying to serve your nation, and everything that goes with that, but top off all that with being a women no frig'in thanks....you need to see it through my eyes and see a soldier....because when it comes to this level it's the only thing that counts...
