Canadians training with al Qaida in Pakistan for jihad
Army Guy replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Are you kidding me, of all the evidence that has been collected and presented at his trial, that is all you gleened from it ? Aside all the evidence that Morris listed, his confesions on vidio where in fact proven true as US IED teams discovered the mines Omar and his merry band had planted...just where Omar had told them they would be...That is clear evidence of conducting terrorism activities in a combat zone....making him a terrorist and carrying out illegal activies.... And while i will agree with you, about his parents 100%, we as a nation have done nothing in regards bringing legal action...Nor do i see any in the future....which does not but a very postive light on our justice system in my opinion. Another myth, designed and spread by those that do not support our actions in Afghanistan...While true it's not hard to find Afghan that does not support the current Afghan government or having NATO troops in the country...they do not make up the majority....The fact that the Majority of AFghanistan only wants peace, and they see NATO as the vehicle that can bring that about... Really just what did the US government do to the Taliban regime , or for that matter AL Quida to have a direct attack happen sept 11....was it because of the US foreign policy, thier decadent ways, there freedoms, the way they dressed, the way they treated their women....Here is a message for them....tough shit....But maybe it's more than that does it justify killing 3000 american citizens.... i don't like the way my neibour keeps his lawn, but i don't drive a small plane into is house killing half his family..... No the only way is to stand up for our rights and freedoms, and tell this scumbags terror is wrong and we will hunt you done and destroy you....it's that simple....sometimes we all can't sit around the camp fire and sing kumbuy yah....sometimes you need to stand up to these scumbags and beat them with a stick... Quote ..As for the same rights and freedoms....Omar pissed on all that when he took up their cause, and took up arms against his country men and allieds....to him and all those other traitors i say screw them....lock them up or ship them back so they can die for their cause .... I repeat, Omar was child who had his life stolen from him. He was indoctrinated and taught to be the way he is. That is against our laws and so long as we continue to piss on Omar, we keep pissing on our own laws, hence the dissonance thing. -

Apples and oranges, Maher was not a proven terrorist, was he, nor was Omar sent from Canada to another country to be questioned... How much more evidence do you need to convince you Omar was a terrorist, part of an organization that goal is death to all infidels....thats me and you....Yes Canada did break some minor rules like sharing info with the US , but hey that is what allied countries do....Tortured my ass....Canadian soldier live in far worse conditions and get squat for compensation.... A Like i said before since when does a criminal / terrorist rights trump mine/ your and every other tax payers...when does one individual trump the needs and security of the many..... Bullshit, live as an afghanis for a year then tell me things in Canada is are as bad as some have said, that would provoke a Canadian into going postal..... So really you think all these crazies should be protected, that those of us who have decided to live our lives under the law, which preserves the very rights and freedoms we enjoy today, that we should suspend some of them to preserve theirs... which ones are suspended you ask, what about our right to live protected/ secure , which allows us to enjoy those very freedoms and rights we have....what about my right not to live in fear, worry about bombings, terror attacks, pay out billions of tax dollars paying out for extra security to keep the crazies out....what about the cost of this conflict keeping the fight in their back yard instead of ours....many many more....becuase we want to give these crazies the same rights and freedoms as us.....bullshit....they brought this conflict into our hoems on 9/11 , they picked the fight....now they can live with it....As for the same rights and freedoms....Omar pissed on all that when he took up their cause, and took up arms against his country men and allieds....to him and all those other traitors i say screw them....lock them up or ship them back so they can die for their cause .... -

An opinion, well those aircraft that crashed into US infra struture on 9/11 is not opinion but fact, killing not only US citizens but Canadians as well, But hey who cares about those 20 plus Canadian citizens , they lived and worked in America, i even heard them called citizens of convince, not worthy of any effort by our country....Another fact How many of our freedoms do you really think we would be enjoying now, if we decided to let them take the fight to us in North America.....that we decided to fight this conflict in our neiborhoods.... Really and yet Omar and his family, now they are the real deal, they are Canadian right down to their burkas....Yes Canadians lets all stand and be champions for the Khadr rights, even a past Prime minister has stepped in and directly intervened on the fathers behalf, only to be killed later in some shoot out at a terrorist training camp.....forget that terrorist are people to....in fact their canadians...and they deserve every right and freedom we all cherish and take advantage off.... Do you really think the muslim world would be as conerned about our rights and freedoms as we are about theirs, which is really a crook of shit anyways, other than a few media outlets a few forums north Americans declaring their concerns and opinions that is were it really stops is'nt it. we finsih work go home talk over supper, print some shit on a forum and say thats it, i've done my part.....but who really listens.... who has sprung into action....so when you boil it all down nobody really gives a shit as long as it does not interfer with my pogie check, NHL, and beer store timings we are all good..... But don't take my word for it vist some of these radical muslim sites, see for your self, what they have envisioned for you and your family.....then ask yourself do they or should they be protected under our rights and freedoms....and if so how far or what freedoms and rights do we give up to give them theirs. -

This whole debate about this program has been twisted beyond belief....16 Bil is the total bill after a 20 year maintance contract is added..... I wonder how many cars and trucks ford, GM or anyone for that matter would sell if they to included how much it costed for up keep and maintence for a 20 year period.... my guess not many....so why do we apply that to these contracts.... when these expense come out of the OEM budgets of depts they are all ready alotted each year within their budgets....in fact there is no metion how much will be saved by operating a new jet, compared to operating the existing older F-18's.... -

A payout of that magitude would certainly be the icing on the cake, hundreds of millions for trying to TAKE our own freedoms away, I mean god forbid we stamp on this little M....f...r freedoms and rights while trying to prserve our own. while one of our own, gets a payout on average of 60 k after they have been dismembered, or mentally changed forever trying to stamp out everything these guys stand for.... I'm sure everyone can see the irony in the whole situation... A payout of that size would have more and more Canadian terrorist lined up around the block, trying to get a chance at their payout....I think you would also see the ROE's changed up alittle, the first Terrorist that even mumble something in english would recieve 2 to the chest one to the head.....just out of priciple.... Not saying it has not happened before denis lortea was one of them, but they are few and far between. I think it's because we seen just how bad it can get in the shit holes around the world, and in comparison, we have it pretty good.... -

Topaz, WOW you got this from Rabble... Where else could you find an art with a reference of President Eisenhowers farewell speech in it. Well look no further than Rabble who have assembled the worlds largest collection of articles with "yes" you guessed it a ref to the great presidents farewell speach.... Somehow Babble has manged to place quotes from that speach in more than a few topics, including one about Canada's massive military industry (An industry almost compatable with the McClain's french fry kingdom), More than one on the F-35 program, and a few others.....all these articles spewing the same message....we need to control our military industry for fear of it controling us......OK now i'm scared.... But lets just take a look at Mr Eisenhowers accomplishments for a second, Supreme command of all Allied forces, so he knew just how important Military industry was to major war efforts, he would later become President of the USA, while in power he overthrew of the democratic governments of Iran (1953), and Guatemala (1954) -- events that occurred when he was president. The invasion of Cuba, authorized by his successor, John F. Kennedy, was being planned by his government as he spoke. While Mr Eisenhower knew of dangers of any countries military industry growing out of control, he also was very familar with the use of and manging large military forces and his office practiced that more than a few times....So while he gave great speaches and we should take a look at his farewell speaches and warnings contained with them....his actions certainly spoke of an entirely different tune...His message i take from the speaches is all industry needs to be balanced, along with the needs of the people....I don't see our military industry even coming close to threatening the needs of the people....but then again i don't have that nice helmet you get for joining Babble either. -

I don't want to sound like an alarmist, but do you really think there is just these 12 Canadians serving with terrorist organizations in Afghanistan, Canadians can't be that gullable are they ? Omar was not the first Canadian taken prisoner, and he won't be the last....He just recieved all the media attention because of his age.... I mean what is there to deter them for turning again'st Canada, Will Canada's justice system deter them, will it charge them as traitors that they are, Nope, none of the Khadr family was charged, so what charges to they rate, what charges will deter the next crowd of Canadians that want to fight with Muslim extremists....bent on destruction.... Omar Khadar Case is setting the stage for the next generation of Canadian born terrorists, he is paving the way as we speak, shit with gitmo closing down for good, terrorists will have to be housed in a kinder more softer prison, yes subjected to harsh Canadian conditions such as 3 hot meals a day, sat TV, the latest in tools of the gaming trade, free education, free physical fitness training, free books, free intra net....YA baby... Yes Omars pretty face has won over millions of Canadians, This once deadly little terrorist has manged to convince millions that he done no wrong, It's my parents fault (" cut to tears running down his face") shit i'm a Canadian citizen, I've been tortured.....I'm only 15 years old..... The Evil US government has suspended my rights, tortured me, accused me of murder, even tricked me into a full confession....all i want is to return to Canada....serve the remaining of my sentence....to plan my Sueing of the Canadian government for not acting on my behalf....So what i was involved in a fire fight with US soldiers, so what we killed those Afghan soldiers, so what i've been accused killing a US medic, so what i worked for terrorist group who's main goal in life is to kill infidels....SO what I'm a Canadian citizen and i'm entitled..... "Where's the money jerry" All sounds fair to me, last week i was helping a young soldier from my last tour in Aghan rewrite is redress to vets affairs, this guy was blown up in a LAV III by a IED which took away a good chunk of his arm, left his right side somewhat disfigured. Vets affairs offered him 28,000 dollars for his troubles.....28 k....for serving his country , for placing his life in harms way to prtect the very rights and freedoms that we enjoy now...... And while i know it's just talk but rumours are abound, that Omar will be offer a major settlement for trying to take those very freedoms away for all of us....Sounds fair to me....sounds like the right message we want to send out to the world.... we be just maybe we could send them this message "screw you".... -
I know this is off topic but it struck a cord....I just wanted to clarify some misconceptions here. Military does not recruit at elementary schools, the minimum age anyone can be recruited into the regular force is 17 and only if they have a parents signature (not many of those in elementary)....they do however send out teams for public awareness vists on "request", or inviation to public events, these teams will introduce groups of civilians on what the Military does, bring in some displays, movies, etc....nothing that is graphic or actualy shows any killing or fighting...it's g rated , They have also been asked Afghan vets to talk alittle about thier experience. these talks are monitored and should not contain anything more than a g rating....ie no graphic war stories.... Yes they hand out trinkets and yes it does carry Armed forces insigna, it is who they are after all, besides Wall mart was all out of teddy bears....As for showing films on afghanistan yes they do, but like i said it's g rated, does it glorify the killing of Afghanis i doubt it very much....in fact i'd bet a months wage on it, it showed some operations but nothing that was graphic or glorified anything.......and while i will agree with you our children should be spared the details of killing and war they should be made aware of what we are doing over in afghan in our nations name, and just to be clear that includes closing with the enemy and destroying them...be it with a night vision scope or American A-10 providing air support...

The Liberals have called for Canada to pull out of the MOU and put the contract out to a competitive bid. They and other opposition MPs have objected that the current deal does not include minimum regional-benefits guarantees that at least one dollar of contracts would be bought in Canada for every dollar spent on the aircraft. My link How is the cost of Maintence going to add to the Nations debt, when it will be taken out of DND's annual Budget. Regardless of high or low it is. Here is what Lockheed said..... My link -

Yes.... I'll reword this for you, it might be what your looking for....Are there any Unlawful targets in uniform Yes, Any medical personal clearly wearing a red cross or cresent, Note speacial rule.....these pers are normally unarmed, however they may carry small arms for protection of patients, once they have fired they're wpn they become a lawful target....And must take down they're red cross arm band or cover there symbol on thier vehs.... also Priest or padres, who are never armed, they to can wear the red cross,or cresent as addtional protection or indentification. Also unarmed wounded pers, once a wounded soldier becomes wounded and is no longer armed he falls under the protection of the covention.... Surrendering soldiers are also afforded this protection, No they determine who can or can't be engaged....legally...According to the conventions everyone is protected until it is determined a lawful combatant or unlawful combatant,by either a court or a soldier has witnessed a breach in the conventions.... I know it sounds confussing but really it's not....me as a soldier already knows who i can engage at will ....only lawful combatants...normally the enemy soldier in uniform carrying arms openly, etc etc ....if any soldier has seen you rob a bank, commit a rape, beat or attack a surendering soldier, or take a combative role with other soldiers or myself...i can use deadly force, at will ....you become a legal target forever....meaning 2 weeks later i could use deadly force in the market, store or in your house ...no questions asked.... The panel will not only determine if he is a combatant or not but which type...which is important, because if they are deemed an unlawful combatant, then they are tried in a court for those crimes....if they are deemed non combatants then they should be released....in Omar case he was an unlawful combatant....Charged with the murder of a US medic...remember what i said earily about medical pers.... No it's not, because on paper you do not see that an unlawful or lawful combatant are not dress the same, one is in some sort of uniform carrying arms openily etc etc and unlawful combatant is a local who may or may not be armed, but wears no uniform or wpns per say....shit an unlawful combatant may be a child, a women , an old man....anyone...and may not stand out in a crowd.... And yet the all may share the same battle space....a soldier must be able to pick out his legal targets and engage....and if he kills any civilians in the process he must justify why.... No the distinction was to have the soldiers make better chioces on the battle field...to try and limit the number of civilains killed in each engagement.....and it works, -
I think all sides know the risks of any attack, except NK, and even they know there is limitations...that being said once those limitations are meet, it won't just involve NK, SK, and the US, it will quickly get out of control, and involve most of the free world....Korea is one armed camp, and when it goes off it will be huge....

What is the logic in training the Afghan troops?
Army Guy replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This clearly shows the amount of education you require to be a liberal leader, and to think he almost ran this country, and we wonder why our own military fears our politicians today.....by this logic why do we train anyone, why do i need to have a degree to become a lawyer, i mean the court clerk who has say 5 years in a court room should be able to be one,i mean they know the procedures, or how about the door man in the hospital performing brain surgery....shit the educational net work shows live surgery.... any takers..... Anyone can pick up a rifle and run around the mountains or woods terrorize the people it does not take training to do that....it does however take training to survive on a battle field....Hey i watch CPAF on a regular basis i wonder if i can qualify to run the liberal party.... -

Army Guy replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think for the most part most of the posters here do have a fair grasp of what is going on, hence why they are here in the first place, to debate....but there are some posters that take whats printed in the media or modes of media such as this forum as gosple. so clarity is important. My piont here is i agree the US is responsiable for training "SOME" of the fighters, but the bulk of the funding came out of Saudi and private Muslim donations, which dwarfed the US contributions...and yet you blame ONLY the US for the problem. which is not being clear, or entirely truthfull. And your right they did not forget they're training, that being said mujahideen forces re equiped and re armed from the Russians, infact they still are today for the most part still using atlot of ammo and small arms left behind...Infact there are still plenty of huge fields filled with old russian tanks and IFV's, aircraft, helo's, all left behind when the Russians left...along with massive ammo dumps and caches scattered across the country....my piont is wpns and ammo are not hard to find, and for 20 US dollars you can get a fairly new AK-47 or 74 at most markets...So we can hardly blame the US for flooding the market with cheap wpns... 7 out of the hundrds that took part in the war, and while i will agree of those 7 we would be hard to find one boy scout amoung them, but out of that list 2 of the major players were also the major players in the Northern alliance...an Anti Taliban group....so the sword cuts on both sides, if we use your logic. Your right but don't let the Russia media fool you, it was not their intention to build schools and emancipated women, right from the start they sent down spec ops and killed off the self appionted President, and replaced him with a Russian puppet...they followed that up with huge invasion force which set the pace for thier entire stay in Afghanistan....Razing entire swaths of villages, towns , cities....with DIv's of main battle tanks, entire wings of bombers and fighters, they may have built a few schools or even tried to give human rights back to women , but the dead don't tell lies....hard to enjoy both when your being hunted down and killed off like rabbits... I can recall only one incident of US forces involved in a mass killing of civilians, which sparked an inter national incident and those responable were held accountable....and it was nothing like what the Russians accomplished in Afghanistan....there are alot of books written by ex Russian soldiers, they make for a good read, they spare no details and can be backed up with facts...the Russians were loath for a reason...being brutal was one of them.... Provide examples , of known incidents that soldiers were not held accountable for actions such as mass killings, yes they bomb the shit out of things that is what we do in war...civilians die in fact at a greeater number than soldiers....that is a fact, compare those numbers to any conflict and you'll find much more care is taken today than say in early Iraq, or Korea.... As for improving lives, compare when we first hit the ground, to today....they have it much better...alot of work has gone into infra struture such as highways, dams, cities sewage systems...ya it's not up to western standards but it has definatly improved.....then do the same when the Russian were in charge.... There comes a time when every nation needs to see a problem for what it is, and it needs to take action, not bury it's head in the sand and hope it will go away, or hope it will not effect us....at some piont we need to say here is the line in the sand cross it and we are going to give you a beat down.... What if we had done the same thing in WWI, WWII, or Korea....it is said all evil needs to flourish is for good men to do nothing.....sooner or later good men need to stand up...would you not agree....we do it all the time, you see a man slap a women hard across the face what do you do...look the other way or stand up...I think most of us would stand up, confront the man...why does that not translate into the way nations act.... -

Gost i think your misunderstanding the meaning of Unlawful Combatants, to become a unlawful combatant you must break the laws as set out in the conventions as Morris pionted out...once you do this you become an unlawful combatant and a lawful target, meaning you can be engaged at will by legal forces...once your an unlawful combatant you are one forever...it has no time limit, or expiration date unless pardoned or forgiven, as laid out as part of the peace agreements...This translates into if any soldier that sees you say planting IED's or engageing in a fire fight, or robbing banks etc etc i do not need special warrents to arrest you, detain you or engage you with deadly force you are considered a legal target... The only time a person is given undetermined status is when there is doubt, to determine this staus it requires a court...but this status can be determined without a court if it is witnessed by a soldier that you have broken the laws of war....then you become an unlawful combatant no court needed and you become a lawful target...In Omars case he was involved in a fire fight with NATO soldiers, his status is a given, he is a legal target...and forefits his rights under the convention.... -
Here is what the globe says, it even gives DND spokes persons name....Please note that does say the Chinooks and griffon helos are used for military type combat missions and it does say that the Hip 17 helo's are from Skylink a toronto based company and that they are used for resupply missions....Not secret JTF operations not combat operations , resupply ops...

What is the logic in training the Afghan troops?
Army Guy replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm well aware of the sources available, infact before each tour we do get a rather lengthy history course on Afghanistan, as part of our training. But your remarks are misleading to those that do not know the history behind Afghanistans current situation. The US government did covertly fund and provide some training to mujahideen, which were made up of muslims from around the globe, plus the hundrds of different Afghanis tribes ....Once the Russians were on the way out that funding and training stopped, Unless you can prove other wise. As for you statement of the US making it's existance possiable, it certainily did not fund them, equip them or train them as an organization, it may of provided them with the excuse to come into existance by deploying to Saudi during the Gulf wars, but we could hardly place the blame solely on the US becuase Bin Ladin did not like the fact that US troops were deployed in the same Nation as the 2 Mecas....Thats just crap.... You should clear this up alittle to, the US did provide "some" recruiting, training, and wpns to the Mujahideen, you fail to mention that they did target specfic groups within the Mujahideen, but not the entire organization, in fact when you add up the funding coming out of Suadi and other Muslim countries you'll find it dwarfs the US contribution by quite alot....and yet you failed to mention them or place any blame at there doorstep... You have got to be kidding, you you've been watching to many Soviet news reels...Russian Spec ops teams replaced the old Afghanis government by gun piont, actually bullets, they conducted Divisional sized Attacks that razed to the ground huge swaths of Afghanis villiages , towns even cities, killing everything in thier paths...including children, shit they even developed mines that looked like toys....So please lets not assume they where there for humanitarian reasons. The US did support certain groups within the Mujahideen but not all of them, and yes some of them may have been Isliamic fundamentalists, or held views much different than those normally excepted in the west but they were fighting for there very existance as a people...It should be also noted that alot of the extremist groups would not except aid from the west.... it should also be noted that even with the great military strength of the US or Russia nobody could have predicted how that war would turn out...the all seeing eye has yet to be perfected.... -

To a certain piont i agreed with you killing at distance you will hear the cheers, or soldiers coping with the stress of killing....at close range it is a totally different story...just silence...men trying to cope with being overloaded with everything.... But i do agree with the other poster as well while we are not angels we are far from anything close to what the taliban have done or will do...and yet we share the same battle field just not the same moral playing field.... Hey i owe the big guy alot of favours, you can say what you want about his right hand man, but until my debt is paid he's number one in my books.... In a small way you did, wether or not your piont of view was heard is another question, but when our government decided to ship us out it was on behalf of all Canadians, you and me... My wife knows what i do for a living , she does not agree with all my views, but she does respect my opinion on this mission....trust me she has not always done so...Bosina for instance...anyways to her it does not matter who decides to send us over, i personal don;t think i want my life hanging on the majority of Canadians, i just don't believe they are interested enough about all tpics in general, would you want the majority of Canadians making decisions in ref to your lively hood... That could be a good piont as well taking this experience and making something good become of it...change is always good. -

Not that i'm a big fan of the movies , as they rarely get it right, but the rest of your post is pretty much bang on, a soldier must be prepared and getting psyched is one approach...not the only one but one of them but one that happens very early, before a soldier steps onto the battle field...just before you step on the battle field your making peace with your god, praying he sees you though, your comrads though trying to control your emotions remembering your drills....then it's all up to murphy and his laws.... -
Khadr should make us ashamed to be Canadian
Army Guy replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Our history is full of examples of what it is like to get caught up in war and all it's rituals....good and bad....would i say the Canadian soldier is a moral beacon, that would depend on the day, and the time....i truely believe most of us do hold the higher moral ground in regards to justifying why we are there, how we conduct our selfs for the most part, the tactics we use , the planning we use, and the amount of force we use.... That being said killing is a not a normal human response atleast not in any civilized world that i know, killing at a distance is the easist there is no face, no blood no emotion...just squeze the triger and it's done....training over takes you and you just do it and yes there is excitment , bravado cheers even stories after the event....but this is how soldiers deal with killing it self...it's well after the battle when that soldier is alone that the scene replays over and over in his head through dreams or flash backs that they have to learn to cope with the fact you just ended someones life...it is here while the soldiers is in private that those emotions are released...normally through regret, tears, what ever including suicide in some cases....... Killing in close quaters is the hardest, it's face to face, it's dirty, it's bloody, and you see in slow motion the entire scene unfold...in OP mudusa it got close and personal...here you see your comrads get wounded or killed, you hear the screams and see the pain...every emotion you have is fighting to be released, we were clearing a mud compound and i had a private witiness he best freind get shot in the back of the head while we were clearing a set of stairs...he could not stop laughing, he had tears streaming down his face but could not stop laughing, after a few mins his buddie slap him across the face which seem to work. On top of every a soldier needs just to survive he needs to control his emotions, and bodily fuctions...a full blader normally means pissing yourself, or shitting yourself....your body is overloaded with all the information your recieveing....something has to give....Anyways you see a few of your buddies get hurt or die, and your moral buffer goes out the window....in mudusa i seen some shit that would make chainsaw 4 look like a sunday bapist church gathering, it was'nt done because we like it it was done because that is what we had to do to stay alive....nobody wanted to be stuffed into that body bag....and nobody wanted one of thier comrads to get stuff either...so we did what we had to do, we did what you sent us over there to do...we killed as many as we could, as fast as we could, we gave no quater, and expected no back...but i can tell you this there was no cheering those days no bravdo , no anything....just killing and trying to stay alive.... So your both right Canadian soldiers are not moral beacons in comparison to the Pope, but we do hold the high ground in comparison with our enemies.... and i'm not making excuses but we did what you asked us to do, enter hell kick the shit out of the devil and return intact some what....Every tour i've done my wife states i've changed in major ways, I'm not the same man that left....shes right...and it takes years to return to some what normal human being again....on the outside i'm still me, ya a few scars from a taliban mortar, but it's still me ...on the inside....well i'm one of the lucky guys and i've learned to live with the ghosts i've created....don't get me wrong i've got my days....but for 99 % of the time i'm normal.... I'm glad i got to serve in Afghan and although my wife would kill me for volunteering for another tour i would go over again...in a heart beat... -

No it's not an articical one but one recongized by the UN and the rest of the inter national community....Sorry try again...We have this same problem here in Canada with Native americans, and yet nobody has said the US/Canada border is an artifical one.... And my link proves that the Pushtuns you are reffing to are indeed from Pakistan not Afghan therefore are not locals but rather from a diffent nation....You can't remove borders that you don't like or agree with, it takes more than that i'm afraid....if it was that easy NATO would have already taken over that portion of Pakistan long ago. removing the Taliban threat completely...and yet they were stopped by that British imperial border.... -

Meaning what exactly ? because they are pushtun they are local Afghanis, wrong, and wrong again, Large chunks of Pakistan are of Pushtun orgin, Your example would be like comparing Americans and Canadians, and saying they are all white anglo,christians....And yet we are two very different people... Canadian soldier found not guilty in 'mercy-killing' of wounde
Army Guy replied to wyly's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Your right here within Canada we give first aid treatment until help arrives, or relieved by trained professionals, ie fire dept, or EMS. But those rules do not transfer to the battle field, or combat...In combat the mission is always first priorty... The Capt did contact higher HQ's, explained the situation, asked for med evac, he was denied, he did infact ask if he could put this guy out of his misery, and was reminded of the rules of war. He thought he was doing the right thing, and acting within his moral values. remember this is not down town Toronto, this was a war zone... Winning heart and minds has it's limits, as i have said dozens of times before the Mission comes first and foremost, everything else is secondary. and that may even include leaving one of your own to the same fate...Winning hearts and minds is normally centered around the civilian population, and this guy was definately not a civilian...Normally he would recieve full medical treatment but HQ had decided NO, provide local treatment and carry on with the mission. And that is what the Capt should have done treated him and moved on, But he did not, forcing DND to investagating and putting him on trial, which was done for just that very thing to ensure the civilian population that we do infact hold our soldiers to a higher standard. I mean DND could have easiliy swept this all under the table, buried it in some filing cabinet...but instead it chose to act... These days Ottawa is talking about the NEW mission after 2011, don't get them mixed up becasue one has nothing to do with the other, the new mission is teaching basic training, the Omelet training which is being done now, is a contiuation training after basic, taking the Afghan soldiers into the field and activly engaging the enemy, our soliders are there to act as advisors....like the Capt we are talking about....it is a combat mission. the new mission is not a combat mission, but teaching in Kabul inside a secure compound...teaching basic training....
