The Three Issues Everyone is Ignoring
Army Guy replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
These 3 big issues have been plaguing Canada for some time now, and will probably never really get tackled....shit we can't even get one bill on assisted dying passed with out the entire house falling apart, one elbow to the tit, and everyone losses their mind...hard to take these 3 circus parties serious....and yet we as citizens are content....time to drop all 3 of them..... -

Good for them, so has most Christian religious groups learned to accept it, or rather learned to live with it would be a better term. That does not mean they have to jump on the band wagon, and start performing ceremonies...like that is some huge indicator of acceptance.... Religion touches everything in this nation, including politics....all one has to do is watch the news every night....Lets not forget that this nation and most of our values, morals and constitutional rights are based on the Christian religion....And I don't think that will change any time soon...It may not be perfect in fact it has a lot of warts and a very ugly side, but I rather live here than say any where else.... -

10 years really, this issue has been with us since the beginning of time....And your just now standing on a soap box calling the stance disgusting....But then again it's been the Christian religious stance since the beginning of time....but shit it's just the Christian religion..... -

If your suggesting religion had nothing to do with this topic , your wrong....She choose to dress the way she does because of religious reasons.....which form a large part of her decision and the reason the bill failed... SO what of Quebec leading the new charge to ban face coverings, one that most feel is common sense... Not because it is a racist, or bigoted, but from a common sense look at security for one, individual freedoms, are we sure we are defending them or enabling them, how can we be sure they are not being forced to submit to all these religious requirements....you can't....so we allow it...despite what we believe is wrong....it does nothing to push women rights further, one could argue it takes away from that.... Would it be common sense to give a women with her face covered children from a day care, money from a bank. or any other activity that would require a face to face encounter.... -

Extremist and bigots, pretty powerful words to describe a political party here in Canada. I mean it was a political party that held a majority here in Canada was it not..... not some middle eastern nation like Syria comes to mind where extremism and bigotry are common practice....Perhaps those very words Extremist and bigot have lost there meaning over time, and have become as common as the words The or And.... I guess it does not take much to earn the title of extremist or bigot, I mean what did they do to earn such an extreme classification anyways....Oh yes they wanted to ban face coverings at 2 Federal Functions, one the swearing in ceremony to become a Canadian citizen, the other to vote in a federal election... The conservatives failed to bring in this EXTREMIST piece of legislation twice as far as I know, they lost because of religious freedoms and our charter of rights.... And yet, the whole premise behind not supporting same sex marriage was also based on religious rights, you know the Christian religion, the same religion that this country was built around, that our very constitution was built and our freedoms of rights constructed around.... But it was this very nation that decided to throw all that out and change our laws and charter to reflect protecting those people who's actions or life styles did not reflect our religious beliefs....I mean for most Canadians it was a common sense decision was it not....we had put our religious values aside and made the right choice.... And yet when it comes to the only 2 times a women who has decided to cover her face is asked to remove this covering (another common sense decision) people loss there minds, They won their case based on religious freedoms...I get it this issue is deeper than what I have time for right here right now.....But that day common sense went out the window....And earned those Canadians that agreed with removing the face coverings the title of Extremists or bigots....or as big guy has added to the list Racist, Homophobes who need to be purged from our politics..... Well I guess those terms or words can be used to describe a lot of Canadians, lets add the BLoc party, Liberal party of Quebec to that list as well....here they are drafting up a new bill, one that goes a lot father than the Conseratives every dreamt of....The total ban of face coverings in all provincial offices, wait for it....it means for both employees and people that want service from these offices, everyone will be required to show their faces....That means hospitals, day care, which seems reasonable I say that because it makes common sense, that and I've already been labeled a bigot by some on this forum........and to those that refuse to uncover there is a fine 1000.00 for first offense upto 10,000..... http://montrealgazette.com/news/quebec/proposed-legislation-would-ban-niqab-burka-in-quebecs-public-sector There are a lot of other examples across the country, to many to list..... My question is this if we can put our religious beliefs away for a minute , like we did with the LGBT community, and make choices that are right ....why does this not apply across the board for every religion....or do we side step the issue because it is Islam we are talking about, and today we seem to do what is fashionable....or face the wrath of some Canadians and risk being called racists or bigots...or worse extremists.... Maybe it is time to bring back common sense, something all parties could use..... -
That's is what the politicians would like you to believe, that DND is reasonable for all the purchasing failures. It is after all them that created the system that has become so complicated that it is almost imposable to make purchases, and when they finally get it right funding is cut or removed. DND has been returning annual funding because of many reasons, it needs to be spent in that fiscal year, but DND has been shocked into keeping bils to fund other losses, such as reduced ann budgets, surprise deployments, or putting money aside to make future purchases. and when the end of the year comes up, it gets caught with a surplus.....and turns it back into government coffers, and accused of not spending it all....sound familiar.... Until all of that is changed , it will remain as it is....to hard to spend the money..... What you forget is DND is but one cog in the wheel when it comes to purchases, PWSG is the main player a civilian organization that translates DND specs into what it thinks DND wants, gathers up potential sellers, and has DND test those products.....now many times these products do not fit the specs DND has written or not even close to what they are looking for....Government approves everything at every level including how many DND can buy, or how much it can spend....resulting in DND down grading it's requirement, taking what it can get.... I'll give you an example when we purchased the 7.5 ton HLVW, to replace the 5 ton cargo trucks , Government decided it would cut the numbers based on tonnage each truck could carry, disregarding that each veh was in place for a reason, for example one for hauling ammo, other cargos....regardless of how much it could carry....so when the actual numbers of trucks purchased they were 600 vehs short....DND was told it was to late to change contracts...or funding....to make up the short fall they were forced to use 2.5 ton MLVW's that where rerolled....leaving a shortage in the lighter trucks.... My point is rarely do all the government orgs talk to each other , and for the most part work again'st each other....

Canadian Legion Executive Goes Rogue
Army Guy replied to Big Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
As a general rule politics are not suppose to be discussed in any mess or legion. As it quickly becomes a source of discourse. That being said the legion was a instruction that allowed vets to come together and help each other, discuss problems be it readjusting or just having someone to talk to that understands military life.... One of the main issues is that today very few Combat vets are left, leaving behind just the old cold war vets, who's experience does not include constant combat, Their attitude is our conflict does not count, that our experiences do not live up to the true war vets experiences....the younger generation of warriors are shunned, or talked down to....todays warriors prefer not to go to the legion, already having major issues dealing with day to day Canadians whom can not separate the warriors and the politics behind the conflict....why go to the legion and get more of the same from those that are suppose to be brothers in arms. That and the fact that the within the legion there is a major age difference , another source of divide, as they don't share very many things in common.... -
Canadian Legion Executive Goes Rogue
Army Guy replied to Big Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Older vets, including those from the cold war refuse to admit that the Afghan conflict was a war, that Afghan vets are not worthy of that status. -
That is what the plans say, and yet history has shown us time after time we beat our heads up against the wall expecting different results each time. This is a reprint of the old plan you remember that one, Canadian built warships were built by Irving and the Quebec yards...what happened well Irving closed it's ship yard moved to Halifax to a much smaller yard, and Quebecs yards are almost bankrupt.... The Navy needs ships yesterday....and the new plan does not take into account how our government works, plans, or funds it's military.... This plan is nothing more than corporate welfare worth Bils upon bils to hire a few thousand workers....when we could spend half that get the right amount of ships, with the right amount of capabilities....Do you really think Irving is going to keep it's doors open once these contracts are up.....are they going to keep up the work force, Irvings are going to put all those Bils into off shore accounts and wait for the next hand out..... Dre mentioned that by not doing this Canadians manufacturing will be harmed in some way.....Name one company that has not move some or all of it's manufacturing off shore.....everyone is chasing the dollar....why is this case any different ....in most cases it is to late many companies are doing this....

Canadian Legion Executive Goes Rogue
Army Guy replied to Big Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This is my one of the few posts I agree with big guy statements. This funding of the games should be a federal or DND funded exercise....with very little legion support.... The legion is breaking it's own rules set out for the poppy fund, The fund has very strict guide lines, and despite what most Canadians think this fund is being used for it is not....Many Canadians think this fund is set up to help homeless vets or for special medical needs, but that is not in the funds operational scope...Not saying it does not happen, some legions will spend this fund on those very needs, but if they contact the regional legion office they will be answer with a NO, you can not spend this money on that type of need... My father was legion president for the ST George branch in New Brunswick, and was frustrated at not only all the red tape to help vets in need, but all the restrictions that belong with the poppy fund...to the point where he had a choice to turn in poppy funding back to regional HQ, or lie on how it was spent, to give you an idea, on remembrance day they could not use the poppy fund to pay for any of the ceremony expenses, nor a vets meal, nor be used to purchase new and much needed equipment for vets hospice or hospitals, nor on any special medical needs for vets. With all the restrictions attached to the Poppy fund it makes it hard for legion branches to spend any of it....If I was a member I would request a full detailed listing of those restrictions, you might be surprised....on just how little the vets receive from this fund....I know I was... One also has to remember not all the executive is ex military members, but rather a large amount are non vets....which defeats the purpose of the entire legion concept in the first place.... The legion is a dying institution that will soon fade into the darkness. for many reasons, they failed to attract any of the younger vets, do to attitudes of the older vets, according to them this generation of soldiers are not combat vets because they never went to war, and yet Korea was not a war either but a conflict with no declaration....hard to tell a Korean war vet that....and as for the Afghanistan conflict well, don't even bring it up....aside from attitudes for a lot of the older vets, failure to bring in a younger crowd, and for some of the reasons Big guy mentions these places will close their doors soon.... -
It is only strategic when there is a navy contract every 30 years, then it's reduced to building what again.....ships, more like little boats.....why is that because it is to damn expensive to buy Canadian made ships.....

Where was my head Marcus.....and here I thought I was following your example just a few posts up..... This is yours is it not, unless someone else is posting on your behalf.....but I forgot your standards are only for others to live up to. I can provide sources for my statement....if that is what it takes, unless you can prove they are not taught hate at all levels..... Conflict breeds hate on both sides marcus....And if you want to believe that this is just one sided then perhaps you can share your rose colored glasses with the rest of the world....

Still Going to Buy the F-35, Really?
Army Guy replied to Hoser360's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Let me ask this.....With all the problems the F-35 has had, is having, Is there another aircraft that can replace the F-35 sitting in the wings for the US military.....NO....is the F-35 going to be around for awhile....Yes....will it's problems be fixed ....Yes they have spent to much on it , to see it fail now..... So it does not matter what the critics say, Fu** no....This aircraft will be the US primary combat aircraft for some time.... -
Is that what you call it philosophical and factual flip side, with some sort of conspiracy that Angus and Rue have cooked up...You give yourself to much credit sir......Perhaps, maybe, readers are just tired of your lack of reading comprehension or understanding of the topic at hand, like trying to explain something to a 3 year old over and over again......there is no philosophical point in any of your remarks , unless you compare your self to some BC tree hugger .. there is very little "factual" anything in your posts, I was hoping it was your lack of reading comprehension, but you have changing the story lines and selling them as facts....here in New Brunswick we call it BS....In fact across most of the country it is called BS....You have not made any enemies here....just a few people who don't like the smell of BS....

What did you think was going to happen when all they are taught is to hate....it's taught in schools, the Mosque, at home....every where....

Hey your entitled to an opinion , that is not my issue with you....my issue is when you make shit up to suit your argument or talking point.....you can't post shit with the intention of selling others to your ideas....... and have nobody call you on it.....you want to present facts then fine...do it....but when you post shit, prepare to swallow....

So let me get this straight, she was convicted of attempted man slaughter in a active conflict zone.....and had on her procession a knife.... I'd say the girl is lucky to be alive....Attempted man slaughter is a serious crime, she lucky the soldiers that arrested her had a lot of restraint, one does not get charged with this crime unless an attempt was made right.....she was lucky not to have been shoot.....These guys are soldiers they take the simple things like staying alive very serious.....Yes I get it she was 12 years old.....But when she is trying to take a life age means nothing, she is a threat, but you don't get that.....you refuse to see that part of it....so they roughed her up, most likely during the take down.......you know when they took the knife off of her..... Yes she was questioned, would you not want to know who put her up to it......so she was scared at the time.....but not scared enough to stop her from caring out an attempted man slaughter..... Sounds like her prison time was full of bad things......like singing songs, visits from relatives....she was not put in solitary, but with other kids her own age.... I

That is your whole problem, failure to fully understand the info presented to you....and to make up for this shortfall you fill in the blanks with your own twisted opinion to try and present some head lines that are false... Such as your opinion on Canada's PRT mission....to send 300 non combative soldiers into the Taliban heart land would have been a suicide mission , the Battle group that was sent along with that mission was for their protection, one can not start the rebuilding process unless the bad guys combat power has been minimized....It was part of the mission from day one.....but some how you twisted it to be mission creep.....Because it sells your position in a better light.... You say you remember the PRT mission can you name 4 projects that they completed.....can you remember the cost in life's of those projects, and what did they provide the Afghan people..... Same as this article your make a lot of assumptions and fill in the blanks......The US mission is the same one Canada has signed onto.....and those trainers are in Iraq....not Syria, but it sounds much better when you make shit up.....
-
Did you read the source that Big guy submitted, does that sound like a political crime to you..... D, arrested on February 9 near the illegal Israeli settlement of Karmei Tzur, was convicted of attempted voluntary manslaughter and illegal possession of a knife in a plea bargain by Israel's military court days after her detention. She was sentenced to 4.5 months in Israeli military prison, and completed more than half of her sentence.
-
Maybe you should try reading your own sources ..... "They’re not going to be leading the fight on the ground, but they will be essential in providing the training and assisting local forces that continue to drive ISIL back." The president will deploy an additional 250 Special Operations Forces to Syria to assist local forces in their fight against ISIS. This adds to the 50 personnel aiding fighters in Syria, bringing the total number of US troops in the country to 300. No where does it say they will to fight ISIS.......

Still Going to Buy the F-35, Really?
Army Guy replied to Hoser360's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It is true that the entire NATO alliance can not provide any different Capabilities than the US already has. However what NATO brings to the table is Numbers , greater economic powers, Nations locations etc etc....Europe is not the only US concern it is but one of many. NATO gives the US the flexibility to do more with what it has... Every Battle group Canada had in Afghanistan is one the US did not have to provide. While our over all contribution may have been small , every drop into the bucket counts. and is important when looking at the global picture.
