Where did you come up with the 40 bil dollar figure ? If my math is right that would mean our current spending levels are below 1%, more like .08 % If Canada is going to sign on to a major defensive pact such as NATO and NORAD then it should be prepared to back up those commitments with enough funding to meet them all....If not then re write those agreements, or pull out of them altogether....That's the problem that is being faced with NATO right now, the organization is being weakened to the point it is becoming a paper force only. and would have difficulties meeting or living up to all these commitments.... Our nation signed these agreements under the understanding that it would live up to them.....I guess our word or pledge means nothing... The current state of our military is a joke....one of the largest land masses to service and a military that Luxemburg commits to. Canadians don't get it.....Members of our military have paid with their lives for not having the right equipment...and still that fact has changed nothing....cheaper to bury them than to pay out for something that will save lives....that is until it is their sons or daughters answer the call.... An extra 20 bil would do wonders for our health care system, but even that is not where that money would go to....how much of the 30 bil deficit the liberals are running up is going into health care ?

No the agreements do not break it down into what equipment we purchase, but they do say the must be compatible with our allies....Not sure what your driving at here, if your asking if the SH would be compatible then I'd say yes... As I have said before that is a major issue within NATO today, what nations are willing to spend on their agreements or defensive pacts...and while they reduce or cash in on peace bonds, there expectations to be defended however remain at old levels....

Well that sounds like a good excuse....Johnny is not paying his fair share neither am I....So what is the point of signing the agreements, How does that make our nation look on the inter national scene if we can not keep our promises....or commitments....And yet these nations would be the first to claim foul if something was to happen and invoke those very agreements they say they have signed but not lived up to....A major issue within NATO.... Why not just have some balls and pull out of agreements we have no intention of living up to....or re write our commitments....No we can't do that those agreements are our insurance policy in case something does happen....

The load as you call it, is clearly spelled out in the defensive agreements we have signed on to, you know Norad, or NATO. We as a nation have promised to keep those commitments, they can be modified at any time but that has not been done...

Yes the Gap....the liberals are proposing that, Instead of spending up to 500 Mil on upgrading our existing CF-18 which will bring there life span to 2025 so there won't be a gap.........Now they are will to spend countless bils on a interim aircraft...No mention as to where all this bils are coming from, nor how many they are looking to buy... But is politically motivated, to keep several promises....Not to buy F-35's, To purchase a cheaper aircraft,so it can find savings to fund the navys ship building program, But it also fills that statement of a leaner military.... And doing it with a sole source buy, that they chastised the Cons for attempting.....It has very little to do with what is best for our forces, but rather what is better for the liberals....

Those few that are willing to speak out should be commended, and should be taken into account when discussing Islam. I think your not digging deep enough for your answers, mental instability or a malignant aggressive personality is not the end all be all solution. According to your train of thought one would have to be on the edge of sanity before taking a life...So how do we explain Soldiers, police officers who's job may entail them to take a life. My point here is anyone can be conditioned to take a life....me ,you, your children, the list is endless....In the military they train soldiers to reduce the enemy to a less than human, training soldiers to reduce the person in the sites to nothing more than a paper target....It is part of the military culture.... But this project is on someone's desk, one could only assume that news of it has reached the PM office, because of all the barking dogs and alarms going on at the PM office, talks about short timelines, rushing in the Super Hornet so not to loose any capability. And if that is the case, Why not just explain it to the public, lay it all out by time line....and answer all the who, what , when and whys.....That has not happened.... instead we have someone leaking out a sole source for SH might be taking place, to the public it sounds like they are testing the waters, because it fits in with all there campaign promises , not purchasing the F-35, getting the airforce some planes , saving some cash for the navy....like a nice bow on a cake.... Because 5 years is not enough time to get a contract in place, and get the equipment on the aircraft prior to 2021....even with the PM putting his weight on it....Then most Canadians would agree and the airforce would have 2 airframes in inventory.... And I did not blow off your question, I simply stated if the contracts go through to upgrade, then there is no need to purchase the SH, as they would have 9 years to find a replacement.....I also stated that if the F-35 is not ready once we or if, we decide to purchase a replacement for the F-18...then it would not qualify as a competitor would it....But both sides are just guess right now, saying it will or won't be ready.....lets wait and find out.....instead of flying a 2 airframe airforce, that can not afford not only for logistical and maintence reasons, but you would need more of each type to satisfy all our Nato and Norad requirements. all of that does not make any sense, unless you had skin in the game like the liberals do....

You presume that the LT Col has not meet his dead line, to identify the required work that needs to be done, you also presume that the work is not being done at this very minute.....Once again other than your source I have found nothing that states the work has been or has not been done, of course why would it be announced to be completed because it has until 2021 to be completed... And no it has nothing to do with the F-35, if it is not ready by then "still 5 years out mind you"....Then a fair competition will rule it out, And while it is die hard fans of the F-35 that will remain positive that 5 years is more than enough, given the fact that project has come along ways in the last 5 years....But it does not remain a fact....so hopefully it is up to the challenge in 5 years time.... Purchasing an interim aircraft makes sense if we could afford one than one type of airframe....we can barely afford 65 of one type....But we still have plenty of time to hit reset on this project....it is what Canadians wanted after all a fair competition, a fly off to decide this once and for all....Now that would be a wonderful concept.....

It is not "me" who put me on that track it was "you", or have you forgotten already, I had posted that I could find lots of sources that had stated that the ELE for 2025 had been approved but none that had said the work had been started or completed.... to which you posted this....Perhaps my reading comprehension is not up to speed, but does this not suggest that the ELE for 2025 has been approved, and work is under way and to be completed by 2021.....which would also mean the new figure would be 2025.... That is your post is it not....number 1069.... Now your saying none of that ever happened, funding was not approved in 2014, nor is any of the Lt Col work done, and the aircraft have not received any additional work to them. To which if true, all that needs to be done is spend 500 mil get the upgrades done, no more time issues, enough to do a fair competition....
