Well when you have a two way range things get a little sporty, and since we all have this will to live taking a well aimed shot is extremely difficult... I doubt that...but then again they walked within a 100 years of each other lined up in nice neat rows...one would have to have balls the size of a wrecking ball to stand there and take a well aimed shot....with out soiling ones pants...

Well it i would say, NATO has been cashing in their peace bonds pretty hard, and are struggling with out of date equipment, lack of any serious numbers of equipment or soldiers.....Take a look at our military....it's infra structure on average is 50 years old....in some cases it has been condemn and people are still using it...we have a huge lack of housing , and some of it does not have drinkable water, or working toilets...Equipment wise most of it is over 40 years old....and is on the verge of being obsolete....Lack of funding effects funds for training, ammo, ...Capabilities , we have lost dozens of Capabilities, as we have not replaced them or retired that capability because we could not afford them.... we lack any credible ground air defense capabilities, very little on Shorad, nothing on medium range or high alt, no tracked SPA, No tracked IFV, No attack helos, NO recce drones, and very little long range drones, Our maritime mine warfare ships are retiring no replacement in the pipeline, no under sea infra structure ship, one operational sub ( west Edmonton mall has 4) the list goes on for pages.. I'm sure if anyone did some research we would find a very long list of stuff we need yesterday....And really how confident are you we will even reach 5 %....took decades to meet 2 %.....it is not realistic even PP has said 5 % is just to much....I have zero confidence that we will even come close to that amount, to be honest it would not surprise me if we dropped below 2 % again...

So you have written off anything the air force has had to say on the topic...Why even have the military write up specs on what they want, or have them test it...that's all smoking mirrors...instead we have Herbies that know much better...The gripen has never placed more than third place in 3 competitions....and that was because 2 off the European aircraft dropped out....And the F-35 is running about 80 million a copy.... When it is your ass strapped into that aircraft, then i would stop and listen to what your opinion is....I get it it will never be your ass, but your daughter or son or grand kids may have to strap in, and well you can always pray we bought something that saved a few bucks...so they come back up right instead of a body bag.. if they can find enough left of them to bury that is...and if not for them, how about them just being Canadian...But we as a country have been brain washed into thinking most of the time it is cheaper to bury our soldiers than buy equipment that is modern and safer... Better to spend our dollars on social programs than give those that volunteer a chance at coming home....And then wonder why we can't get anyone to join....Because this nation has your back, buys the best equipment..... treats it's vets with respect or looks after them when they are broken... RIGHT....not really Cost estimates $80 million to $100 million: A general estimate that includes the F-35, though this doesn't account for the more recent, higher prices from newer deals. $85 million: An older estimate sometimes cited, which is lower than recent figures. $138 million to $146 million: Recent estimates, with a Thai deal indicating a price of approximately $138.25 million per jet. Peru is reportedly calculating a potential purchase at $145.8 million per aircraft.

New Submarines: Carney vs Poilievre
Army Guy replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Look i'm glad you took the time to tour a few battlefields....while posted in Germany i did the same thing toured every battle field and there is a ton of them ....And i was in awe of how the conquered fear and terror and still accomplish their jobs, nor did i glean anything from our history on the battlefield, that would make me second guess any of our military commanders, except the current CDS...........But i did not give me the experience or knowledge to second guess a man who spent his entire career plying his craft until it was razor sharp and why the needed certain equipment.... -

With two hands tied behind your back sure....unleash the dogs of war and the drug problem would be gone in a few years... -

Army Guy replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You do know that our military does most of the drug seizures at sea, RCMP, or coast guard have very little assets....maybe if we funded them properly.... They have been deemed terrorist, and western nations kill terrorist all over the globe everyday....including Canada....not sure why this is so hard to comprehend...I have given you plenty of examples and sources to confirm that...Why is it different in the US...because the trump is doing it....when every prime minster and president have been doing it for decades. -

So stopping the flow of drugs into North America is not a worthy effort....how many people die every year for drugs....and what is the line in the sand for the amount of deaths before we do take action... -
Even combat troops become over come by fear, including combat vets have bad days......in WWII only one in 10 troops returned fire dur to fear...., today it is about 1 in every two...but they also estimate over 1 million rounds fired to every enemy killed.... Sometimes the bear wins...

Most of the public servants I've dealt with work in the military structure some place they are unionized, and make good money, most of them are already aged out, a good number are ex military....those that are not are not physically fit...Walk into any CRA office or any other governmental dept, and take a good look around and see for yourselves....And most of them are going to be earning more than any military guy to begin with...next age and physically fitness levels it would be hard to find 400,000 k to meet even very reduced standards... It is not that they despise them, it has more to do with being unionized and using that at every opportunity, , having much different work habits and drive, having the same or better benefits, wages are not that far off...they are listened to by the government....while our military and vets are only thought about on Nov 11.

Well i guess the public did not take the plan to recruit from [public service...and is now second guess the tiger tewams report or suggestions... It should be noted that active duty pers are asked if they want their names added to the supplementary reserve list , of all the people who retire only 4384 of them decided to put their names forward to be recalled if this nation faced crises.....it has to be telling that's thousands that retire year after year that only 4383 decided to serve once again if needed....It is not that they don't believe in this country, i mean they have already pledged to defend it with their lifes.....it is because what our government has done to the military, lack of training funding, lack of modern equipment , lack of veteran coverages, benefits, lack of Canadians having their backs...What they asking Canadians is to have their backs 365 days a year, like they have yours, and not just one day on Nov 11 ..but all year... https://torontosun.com/public-service/defence-watch/top-soldier-public-servants-reserves/wcm/353eddba-a3b8-4f7f-a5b9-7a67669e3fd7 Not sure if these guys are right wing or not...but apparently they are of the same mind as me and many others.... https://torontosun.com/public-service/defence-watch/top-soldier-public-servants-reserves/wcm/353eddba-a3b8-4f7f-a5b9-7a67669e3fd7

What is so good about it, the jobs, the price, or they are made in Canada maybe ....or the fact that the air force does not want it...

New Submarines: Carney vs Poilievre
Army Guy replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
BS, the admiral has had a major hand in setting up the specs for the new subs, one of the specs is to be able to remain submerged for 3 weeks or more....to be able transit the artic circle in the winter...if that was not the case he would have removed that spec.... Stop....do some research on this, you have no idea what they will be used for, part of the subs capabilities is to be used offensively in the attack role....every weapons system in the military is designed to be used defensively and offensively , one can do both in the same attack actually... Herb these are the guys you voted for was it not, they are setting the new rules....not conservatives...you can't have it both ways....The NAVY set the specs, and the government is going to buy 12 of these subs... -
It would take all of the reserves and regular force years upon years to train 400,000 civilians....not to mention you would have to continue this training on a regular basis to those already trained....it would be one big circle of training....and in 10 years you would have 400,000 reserve soldier trained to the basic level....not to mention regular force troops who would be need of updating more courses, etc....Why waste this effort in peace time , why not pour all this funding into training more Regular force soldiers along with more primary reserves...instead of waste time and effort on wannabees...that most would not even meet basic military standards for being physical fit, or in the age category....I mean if any of those in the civl services wanted to be in the forces that would already happened.....Have you seen your typical civil servant.... This is all part of the mobilization of a mass amount of troops in time of crises....lots of double talk going on here....first you say they will not be deployed to war zones....but suggesting they be part of the reserves....but the facts remain that the reserves be it primary or supplementary are meant to either form new combat units or act as reinforcements to regular force units in time of crises or for any operation....So ya they are going to have a rifle and shoved where they are needed...even our truck drivers, Loggies, cooks, maintainers, drone operators are expected to perform their duties under combat conditions...suggesting other wise is a lie.... This is not about a bunch of right wingers freaking out, this is about members on here or other media sites, with operational experience saying are you crazy....you might get maybe 50,000 adults that fit military duty requirements out of all the civil service.... the rest are aged out, not physically fit, ... Ya, not my monkeys not my circus.

It would be worth a couple cases of beer just to sit on the side lines on the range, and watch this train wreck take place in real time...It would make for good TV...

New Submarines: Carney vs Poilievre
Army Guy replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The cost of the subs is not 600 bil.... it is estimated at 100 bil for the next 30 years. if your going to lie, you should not be afraid to be fact checked...Hence why we belong to NATO and other defensive contracts and they will defend against the world. Again Canada belongs to many defensive agreements that most of the free western world agreed to come to our aid. And it is the very reason why we must be ready to defend another nation as per the pacts... Canada already has agreements as you suggest with many nations, The world is not full of unicorns and rainbows....every nation must be able to defend its sovereignty or risk losing it...end of story....that is what is going on here. and many snow flakes are afraid this is going to cut into their social programs...And yet Canadians cut our military to the bone in order to have it's current social programs....for decades...and now it is time to pay the piper, Because the world demands it....your shedding tears because the free ride is over.... yelling we don't need this or that...is what is wrong with this nation... -

If we are going to patrol the artic then your going to need those features....Or are you saying the NAVY does not know what it is talking about....or is this your opinion Admiral. -

Nothing is wrong with China using inter national waters, but Canada has it's own claims to its borders, you or the world does not have to like it, but that is what our elected government claims...and patrols and defends. -
This is perhaps the scariest idea every to come out of the puzzle palace, and if this was actually sanctioned by the CDS it is time to find a new one, the days of breaking glass callings is over...and the tiger cell that actually thought this up, well Walmart greeter is your next calling....I've heard of better ideas from Ptes in recruit school... This idea would not even work during war time let alone peace time.......And then for the government to actually heard it, and gave it any credence that's the scary part, these are the people we trust to rebuild our military....we might as well hand this entire project to a kindergarten class....even Herbies ideas make more sense than any of this.... I've worked with public servants shit i was one for a few years....would i entrust any of them to defend our nation.. Not on your life...This is where our nation is right now....stuck out in left field, high on mushrooms grasping at ideas, coming out of our so called military higher chain of command...........We are the same nation that won't even trust the people with a hunting rifle with a 5 round mag....because it is to scary...now lets train 300 k civil servants when we don't even have the money or resources to train our professional soldiers...Shit we can't even get civil services to work in an office 5 days a week....This country makes me laugh at times, and it shows you how sick it really is...There really is no coming back from this....Someone needs to take a huge broom to NDHQ and sweep all those crazies out into the streets....and lets not forget all the politicians that even allowed this shit to be heard let alone agree with it... Why not just bring in conscription, force our young people to join our military or medical service, police or fire dept....forest fire fighting service, anything except the other civil service...

New Submarines: Carney vs Poilievre
Army Guy replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Sure anti drone tech is progressing just as fast as drone tech is.. new shot gun rounds, electronics jammers, radar guided Auto cannons, small missiles design for drones, even anti drone drones that hunt other drones and fire shotgun rounds or explode when close to other drones, they even use fishing nets/ blankets, cam nets, to trap them....steel cages on tanks...the poor soldier on the ground will always find something...even lasers are now knocking out drones... They said the same thing about tanks when the anti tank missile came out...tanks days are numbered....then someone invented explosive armor, smoke with metallic strips in it...spaced armor etc ....and we still produce tanks by the thousands.... Right now the Canadian army is looking at them for recce to see what is around the next corner, or over enemy positions, the same thing for the navy they are looking at replacing men on dangerous assignment like mine removal, or patrol a heavily contested area... The military is spending huge amounts of money on research to defend against drones to protect those bil machines... -

Don't get me wrong, i know jack shit about the navy, been on a frigate once to do amphibious landings, and i did not like it...But i do have full confidence in the senior naval commander choices....Surveillance is one of their big missions, along with landing spec ops, anti ship, anti under water infra structure, like cables, pipelines, etc...launching Ballistic missiles as in the KSIII, they make up a huge range of capabilities most of them are mentioned in their bios for the two boats we are looking at..... -

Again not sure where your getting your info from, why would the Naval commander put into the specs of these new subs that they be able to operate under the artic ice....If they have NO defensive stance....Subs are a major tool in the navies tool box to respond to threats or to conduct naval operations in the all 3 oceans. Not sure what you mean by limiting both parties choices on how to proceed....i if you mean escalate to the point of a engagement, and risk WWIII you severely under estimate the commander of the sub decision making skills.. lots of things would have to go bad before it got to that point. -

Your making my point here, Manned subs, ships are always going to play a major role in Naval combat, that much the Canadian Naval commander has made clear.......drones are going to play roles as well, but they at this time and into the future are not going to make Manned Subs obsolete. -

I'd be interested in what source you are using that states Sub's are on they're on the way out...I mean Subs came to light in 1775, and in all that time we have not been able to find a weapons system that would do just that make subs obsolete... same can be said for tanks, IFV's, planes , ships....and yet here we are today still operating all of them... -
I did not write that article, nor did i say he was for jailing any oil and gas supporters.....That was the other NDP member who is not adult enough to talk or discuss the topic without some feeling some sort of violence.... I am a supporter of free speech, are you that weak you can not control your impulses from advertising....We are bombarded by advertising every day.. what's next we ban or jail anyone talking about the liberal party or trump....
