  1. You will have to refresh my memory. When was there "violent rioting (when other people were being assaulted and murdered, and watching their businesses and communities get destroyed)?" The Stanley Cup riot comes to mind but I don't recall anyone being murdered. Could you please elaborate?
  2. It sounds like you are saying the Conservatives should not denounce racism.
  3. As usual, an excellent response. We will continue to have differing opinions on many aspects, but this is a learning experience for me. Thanks.
  4. According to the Bible, the uniform I wore as a Peace Officer was an abomination in the eyes of the Lord. I was often scheduled to work on the Sabbath and , according to the Bible, I should have been put to death. The Bible forbids eating bacon on my teen burger. Like most Christians, Hindus, Jews and Muslims, we cherry pick the rules. If a person is born gay, is that not the will of God? Abortion is killing, but it is not murder. Murder is a legal term. I once had the opportunity to meet an elderly gentleman who was awarded the Victoria Cross because he devised a way to kill German kids and was a mass killer. If killing was murder, then he would have been a mass murderer. Abortion, like battle, is a terrible thing and who are we men to judge? As I have discussed with you before, I will not criticize your faith. The scholars I mentioned were not screwed up. They have a far greater knowledge to Biblical scripture and who wrote them than you or I. They are men and women of faith. The Bible was written by men and women, with all their flaws. The Book of Revelations was not supposed to be included in the Bible because it was deemed to be of dubious credibility. The United Church of Canada and the Anglican Church are the dominent protestant Churches in Canada. The Anglican Church could be deemed the State Church since our Head of State is the Church's Supreme Governor. The Roman Catholic Church is slowly moving in the direction of recognizing that sexual orientation is God's choice. It took the Vatican 400 years to admit Galilao was right, so we should cut them some slack for their hesitation.
  5. 1. I support a woman's right to an abortion in the knowledge that no woman makes that agonizing decision lightly. As a man, it is totally inappropriate for me to judge a woman in that situation. 2. It is important that children receive accurate information in sexual orientation and gender identity so they will understand it is natural. 10% of human beings are gay. 3. I support same sex marriage. So does the most of the Christian Churches. 4. I support medically assisted dying. I cannot judge a person in those circumstances and I hope none of us ever have to. Blackbird, I respect your views, but you understand I have different views, especially after being married to a theologian and spending reteats with some of the leading theological scholars in the country.
  6. The USA since its entry into World War II is a different country than the pre-1940 country. It suddenly transformed into a World power unique in world history whose conduct is motivated by generosity and compassion rather than greed and imperial expansion for its own sake. Most people in the world recognize this and that is why there is so much illegal immigration. The execution of this policy direction does not always have the desired outcomes but the intensions are good.
  7. I used to advocate for a viable Canadian military but nobody wants to pay for it. Any Defence policy that is not able to defeat any enemy independent of alliances is a waste of money. Do you seriously think Canadians would pay for rebuilding the Canadian military. I posed the question the Stockwell Day when he was Leader of the Opposition. He had no concept of what an effective military force would cost. The only effective strategy for dealing with an invasion of Canada is to absorb and then bleed the invader until they leave. If it was an American invasion, we would remove them politically.
  8. I mean no disrespect to our Great American friend. It is just important to remember gratitude id a two way street. It is also important to remember war is the most terrible of any human enterprise. While the current Russian administration has become a potentially current threat, that is due to the enabling policies of the previous US administration. The former President destabilized the structure of international relations causing President Putin to mis-judge the resolve of NATO. China is not a threat. They are not prone to invading other countries with the exception of assistance to North Korea and a stupid invasion of Viet Nam, which resulted in a humiliating defeat.
  9. Let's see, the US has invaded Canada three times. They got their ass kicked all three times. When Canada fought in the Great War, where were our American protectors? They hid for three years and finally joined the allies just in time to claim the Glory. Then, they decided draw up a plan (Plan 1919) to invade us for a fourth time after the Great War. That plan was never implemented, but it begs the question, who are the Americans protecting us from. In World War II, same thing. They hid for three years and finally joined us to defeat the Nazis. I will say the their participation was critical and the Marshall Plan was the greatest act by a victorious power in human history and showed the true spirit of the American people. In the Korean War, it was the PPCLI who stopped the communists from driving the US forces into the sea. My point is, who are the Americans protecting us from? The US is the only country that can logistically invade Canada. Fortunately, for the forseeable future, that is a remote possibility. If a future US administration ever considers an attack on Canada, they should sit down with General Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Army, and ask him for his wisdom. In the meantime, we shall enjoy our warm relations with one of the greatest countries on earth.
  10. Having an American try to lecture Canadians on politics is like having Kim Kardashian lecture Stephen Hawking on physics.
  11. Either Charest, Brown or Aitchison can win a Federal election. The others will turn the party into an NDP Right and restore the grits status as the Natural Governing Party.
  12. There is just not enough coffee to get me to weigh in on this one. ?
  13. You claim to be a nationalist, but for what nation? ************ I say that and then I read your moving posts in the Altruistic love thread and I see the real you. Thank you. I'm not doing very well today. I need to learn to put mind in gear before mouth in motion. I'm retiring for the day. Quit while I'm behind.
  14. Until the Conservative party gets serious about returning to the idea of good government, the Trudeau dynasty will continue. I have always supported Mr. Charest and it is telling that when the Quebec Liberal Party was looking for a leader to defeat the separatists, they turned to Mr. Charest, the federal leader of the Conservative party. That is how much respect people have for him.
  15. When a candidate says something that stupid, it doesn't really matter who calls him out. Electing a moron as leader is not a winning strategy for the Conservative party. I am sure Mr. Poilievre is a nice guy and he certainly has a reputation for integrity, but he has shown a pattern of lapses in judgement. The attacks on the Bank of Canada is by far the most serious. A Poilievre victory in the leadership campaign is not scary, just disappointing. It means we will have a leader incapable of defeating the Liberals for the next 7 years. Prime Minister Trudeau can relax and enjoy the office, while he keeps the seat warm for Xavier who will be in his twenties.
  16. Mr. Poilievre failed to consider the ramifacations of his promise to replace the Governor. The immediate impact would be a loss of confidence in the Canadian economy. The inflation situation is world wide. Canada's inflation is lower than the US, thanks, not to the grits, but to the Bank of Canada. The long term effect would be the precedent of interferring in the Bank, breaking a long tradition of the B of C being at arms length from government.
  17. I didn't notice President Biden or President Trump in the debate last night. I'm not sure why they are in this topic. Neither are Conservative. Conservative values can be summed up in three words: God, Queen and Country. The grits are more stream lined: Money, Money Money.
  18. My time, at the moment is limited, but I must apologize for my comment about colours of suns and all that. While you and I rarely agree, I have the utmost respect for your intellect. I would like to blame my having responded before I had my coffee. It will happen again, so I apologize in advance. Cheers.
  19. And PP is from fantasy land. If you agree with Mr. Poilievre, I have to ask what colour is the sun on your planet? Your use of terms like fascist and communist are immature.
  20. Stupidity, as Mr. Poilievre has exemplified with his promise to politisize the Bank of Canada, is not a Conservative value. His crypto-currency idea is a gift to the scam industry. It has another name: counterfeiting. I have always questioned his aptitude for the leadership but, as David Dodge said, when asked about Mr. Poilievre'ss statement that the B of C was financially incompetent, "He doesn't know what he is talking about."
  21. What would that look like? I think that could work if we abolished the position of Prime Minister, and GG and got rid of the lower house. We could have the Upper House and the executive with direct rule.
  22. Then that is the government they should get. You are wrong, but I sometimes get the mistaken impression you have never studied Marx.
