  1. Perhaps the military and such may need advanced polls, but Joe Average can bloody well rearrange his life to vote on election day. What makes the dudes that think they have the right to do as they wish that important. An election, especially a federal election is imprortant enough that folks should make adjustments.
  2. I worked in the oil industry most of my adult life. And several times my work has moved me off shore for short lengths of time. But many of my friends have been off shore for significant periods of time. But they were all Canadian in heart. But what really Pis*es me off is the dual citizen Lebanese, who come here, get citizenship, go home till they have a medical issue, or till another war breaks out and my tax dollars has to pay to bail them out of their chosen situation. What a travesty of common justice. (Not in the legal, but in the moral sense.)
  3. 1) Amazing amount of truth there. 2) But I still like the monarchy, and this is why. In the US, if you critisize the pres, you are critisizing the government/country/everything. In Canada, I can shit all over Harper or Martin or Chretien or especially Trudeau, and that isn't insulting my country cause the GG, representing the Monarchy, is the representative of my country.
  4. As I just posted in another thread, I just put "liberal" into dictionary.com and the answers mostly were along the line of conventional conservative philosophy. I was shocked, so you are probably right.
  5. I was shocked today. I called up Dictionary.com and typed in liberal. The definitions they came up with sort of were way more the conservative philosophy than the Liberals. I'm afraid to look up "progressive".
  6. As someone else posted way above, it may not be a writen rule, but tradition means a francophone is next. Sucks to be Brison.
  7. If we knew, we'd play oil futures and short stock and get rich and retire to a south pacific island populated by big chested young women, but instead we enjoy crossing mental swords on forums like this.
  8. I love how an abortion thread can evolve to an immigration thread. What fun.
  9. 1) Do your USA numbers include illegal immigrants from Mexico and other Carribean and South American countries? 2) Does that Saudi beat Canada make you happy?
  10. The Vancouver Sun had a story today about the Canadian Border Agency doing spot inspections of the Tamils that illegally entered Canada some months ago. I'm really disappointed that it appears most of them have been inflicted on us. Anyway, the thrust of the story was that they were shocked that they were being investigated, they thought that Canadians weren't subjected to such things. Well, they aren't Canadians, they are illegal immigrants. Who are being supported by my taxes. They should have been forced to stay on the ship till it sailed back to Sri Lanka.
  11. Nah, I think we should have 15 political parties, proportional representation and an election every 6 months like most European countries, or even better, 15 or so months without a government like Belgium is facing. When there is no government, they can't screw anything up.
  12. Sovereign and independant had better mean no foriegn aid from English Canada or I will grab a pitchfork.
  13. With their hate on Harper, perhaps with the surge of the poll numbers for the NDP, they will switch to NDP on an 'anyone but Harper" wave.
  14. In my sentence, "you" was plural.
  15. My point was that you calling it "conservative pork barreling" ignores the fact that he was taught by the experts, the natural ruling party that made a science out of payola via senate seats. Nice missing the major point since you have no defense.
  16. Conservative pork barrel'd senate? Harper tried like hell to reform the senate, unlike the natural party that just packed it with their flunkies for years. But you beat your head against a brick wall (the natural party) enough and you finally learn. If that's the way the rules are, lets use them to our advantage for a change. Reap what you sowed.
  17. I would have thought so till I saw what the BC NDP just did. There was a clear choice between a center-left guy and a left guy, and the left guy won big-time. Tell you the truth, it surprised me. And our local joke Conservatives are a ways away from splitting votes with our so-called Liberals. Hell, the BC Liberals are way to the right of the Albera Conservatives.
  18. If Layton's health hangs in enough for him to be around for the next election. If not, I bet they elect another left wing-nut leader and lose all they have gained.
  19. And a larger number of Canadians chose not to vote for Layton as well as Iggy. You don't do statistics or logic very well.
  20. Are you implying that the NDP and Liberals support terrorism?
  21. OK you Lib/NDP types. Welcome to our world. All the days that Reform/Alliance split the vote with the Tories. Now it's your turn. Iggy et al need to decide who or what they are. All they say is that they aren't the Cons, without saying what they are. So you both lose.
