If the 407 is private can someone please tell me why McGuintys government is going to extend the 407 highway to hwy 35 & 115? This means that the taxpayer is going to pay for it.

Will there be more Mayor Ford's appearing across Canada?
treehugger replied to pfezziwig's topic in Local Politics in Canada
There is a federal deficit because the world just went through a recession and it seems that Canada is the only country that is still on top. Now they are working on the deficit and it will take about 4-5 years to pay it off. -
Is that what your job is, city planning?

Will there be more Mayor Ford's appearing across Canada?
treehugger replied to pfezziwig's topic in Local Politics in Canada
He has already accomplished a lot, three promises done the first day in council. Council has taken $20,000 of each of their spending accounts. The license fee of $60. has been stopped. Got council to agree to transit being an essential service. There has been more talk about transit by Mayor Ford and council, in the last month than years of talk in City Hall. He is closing in on a graffiti law. Owners clean up your graffiti on buildings or the city will do it and charge you. hurrah! This is a lot for one month of work. -
On cp24. The year 2010 was a slack year for Federal MPs as they only worked 119 days in the whole year. "They have resorted more frequently to passing enabling legislation giving the government a broad discretion to act in the future without going back to Parliament for approval. The upshot is the gov. evades scrutiny and Cdns are left in the dark about what their Federal politicions are up to." Before all of the left wingers start getting heart palpitations and ready to attack, "This problem predates P.M. Harper, The hours have gone down steadily since 1975." The cp24 poll also said that 93% of the people wanted then to work more days. What do they do with all of the rest of the year??

Are Canadians soldiers being propped-up for Karzai regime?
treehugger replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Many of the Afghan soldiers are already corrupted so all of the training they received couldn't get past their corrupt lives. According to the National Post, today, "A Canadian armoured vehicle accidently clipped the bumper of an Afghan Ford Ranger." The Canadians stopped to do the paperwork for the Afghans compensation, the ANA crew refused the paperwork and demanded cash payment on the spot. The Canadians refused and drove off. The ANA soldiers drove ahead and set up a roadblock and stopped the heavily armed vehicle. The Canadians refused to pay cash the second time and shots were fired first in the air , then at their vehicles. What a lot of crap over there! -

Paul Martin Kills his wife so said... coincidence?
treehugger replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Martins went for the holiday to try and patch up their marriage. I guess it didn't go right for him and while in their car he slashed her throat. They were seen by a taxi and before he took off, she managed to fall out of the car.The taxi driver phoned police. She survived, too bad for him as he made up the story about him out taking pictures and when he came back to the car a man was killing his wife. Where is the coincidence to anything? -
Ford Campaign Pulled a Sandra Bussin Against Tory
treehugger replied to nicky10013's topic in Local Politics in Canada
I guess you must of missed the many many "tricks" that was done to Rob Ford. John Tory (bighead) had to come down a few pegs anyway. But at the end of the day. Tory may be working with Ford at city hall. So you and the star are the two upset ones. -
Heartland is a really good show and has been renewed again for the fourth year. Rick Mercer is the best. Mantracker is a reality show but it is enjoyable and he's nice to look at. Republic of Doyle is good. Hockey game -- Curling The history channel.ca used to be really good but they are slipping. Wind at My Back, was the one of the best series that was on Canadian tv.

I agree with you. I have watched all of the Anne movies. Emily of New Moon was good too. I really loved the Waltons even though it wasn't Canadian.

If you carpool you have to get special insurance. You have to go straight home, if you have a meeting or have to attend something you are out of luck. The transit as it stands, in the rush hours is terrible. -
Toronto Municipal Elections 2010
treehugger replied to August1991's topic in Local Politics in Canada
What do all of the Torontonians think of their so called mayors-to-be, excluding Ford, for what happened in the dark hours of Monday night? There can only be one person who is behind the nasty signs that were planted on University Ave last night. One sign read "wife-beating rascist drunk for mayor!" there is another one but coudn't see it. There is only one person who is behind these signs. There is nothing worse than a b-tchy male. Our favourite cop, Cam Wooley said "Fortunately these kind of thing always backfire on the person." There are stupid people who would rather have someone so unbalanced, for mayor, than to vote for Rob Ford. Maybe you all should seek counselling for everyone else's sake. note: Rob Ford never touched his wife on that night. He got custody of his two children for the night and his wife went to counselling and all is well in the Ford family now. Everyone has problems including all who are on this site. The "drunk" thing came when someone yelled something rotten to Rob's wife and he responded to the jerk. If any of you men would sit there and not stick up for your wife, then you are not a real man. The "rascist" thing came when another boatload of Tamils landed on the west coast. The first boatful of Tamils ALL came to Toronto, and Ford said that Toronto cannot afford to have all of these immigrants come to the city.Which is true. Who do you think is paying for all of these people, we are taxed to death. -

Toronto Municipal Elections 2010

Mel Lastman was mayor for 25 years in North York and Toronto. Obviously the majority wanted him. He was a good mayor until he got very ill at the end of his career. -

There may be two marathons in the summer but there is a dozen other big runs that are held on the city streets in the summer. Only on the weekends? Do you think that people don't work on the weekends? There is police,EM, fire, ambulance that all have to take different routes. And regular citizens that want to get where they are going. There is nothing wrong whatsoever in moving the runs to places such as Downsview Park or another park with a lot of space.
