The World Can Be Powered by Alternative Energy
Bryan replied to ReeferMadness's topic in Health, Science and Technology
They aren't "oil" companies, they are energy companies. They want you to use whatever they can sell you. If they could make money with alternative energy sources they'd be all over them. The only time you see that though, is when there's a boatload of taxpayer money involved, because that's the only way to make a go of it. It's the same with consumers. No one is opposed to windmills, solar, etc. What they are opposed to is the extreme extra cost, the milking of tax dollars to make them look less expensive than they really are, and the unreliability of the service. Give the people the same or better service at the same or lower cost, and they will buy it.- 72 replies

By definition, that's exactly what it does.

Every? I travel a lot. I've been to a lot of Loblaws, amusement parks, subways, and Ikeas. The only place I've ever seen a moving sidewalk is in particularly large airports. Are you talking about the escalators? I'm not saying moving sidewalks don't exist elsewhere, but they are nowhere near as common as you're trying to make them out to be. They certainly are nowhere close to being "everywhere".

I'm continually amazed at the range of gas prices within Winnipeg. There's usually more than 20 cents/litre price gap at stations that I'd pass by anyway. What I do, is use the "Gas Buddy" phone app to show me what the prices are around town. It just shows me the current prices, and I can sort by proximity to my current location, or by price. More often than not, I can find a place at the lowest end of the price range within a few blocks of the highest price ones I'd be most likely to go to by default.

I'm not a big fan of any of the ones in the Fusion series, only because of that bottom pivot point. I find it a little less responsive, especially in "tight" areas, like right under the nose. I'll still use them, but only if they're the only option. Sensor Excel is probably my default when none are on sale.

Carbon Tax Reduces CO2 Without Harming Economy
Bryan replied to ReeferMadness's topic in Business and Economy
Is that a joke? The regulations are constantly increased all the time. The days of being allowed to just dump whatever you want where ever you want are long gone. There has been a constant tightening of laws (both local and international) with respect to what pollutants are banned out right, the maximum levels that others are allowed at, the degree of filtration that is required, and the security of containment and storage. Emissions are monitored (and enforced) much more stringently. Whether it's PCBs, CFCs, or DDT, or the weed killer on my lawn, things are MUCH stricter than they used to be. -

If there is anyone out there who still had any doubts that the federal bureaucracy has different standards for Liberals than they do Conservatives, this is your wakeup call. -

Good thing we have much stricter environmental regulations now than we ever did before. -
Same here. Every electric shaver I've tried has burned my neck something fierce. Blades are expensive, but there are ways to minimize it. I have several handles of different brands of razors, and I only buy blades that are on sale and/or I have coupon for (preferably both). No matter which one I can get the best price on, I always have a handle that will use them. Once I got the triple discount: blades already on sale, and a $2 off coupon, and I paid for them using my Shopper's Optimum points.

Employment Insurance whistleblower suspended without pay
Bryan replied to The_Squid's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Most frauds absolutely do result in overpayments. They aren't doing it for the conversation. -
Election canada lets liberals off the hook.
Bryan replied to PIK's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Absolutely, they're just making it up as they go along. -
The point is, the govt put the matter before the supreme court FIRST. Getting the answer as to what they can and cannot do before anyone tries to challenge it is a very smart tactic.

Funny how EC has no problem going against their own regulations when it's a Conservative they want to go after. -

You're lying. If you talked to a real investigator, he told you that fraud is a very big deal, PERIOD. edit: Wait. I take that back. that was harsh. Perhaps you were talking to someone like the person this thread is all about: a self-entitled government worker who objects to actually having to do their job. -
I've said it before, the upper house should be like jury duty. A random cross section of the public gets subpoenaed to it.

Again, if you know anyone who actually works in those departments, you also know that your claim is ridiculous. Go talk to an actual investigator, then get back to me. -

Welfare fraud is rampant. -
Employment Insurance whistleblower suspended without pay
Bryan replied to The_Squid's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes it is. You know why? Because the people I know are doing the job they were hired to do, and following the agreements they signed not to go public. It's also why those in the know really don't care if you approve of the tactics or not. They're the ones who have to deal with it on a daily basis. The official data you ask for has already been quoted in this thread, more than once. -

Elections Canada's double standard is appalling. They go on witch-hunts against Conservatives who are following the letter of the law, yet allow Liberals to openly flaunt their infractions. -

Bryan replied to The_Squid's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
My source is the people I know who work in these government departments. The most common infraction is people claiming to be unemployed when they are in fact working. Another is collecting benefits multiple times under different names. ...and yes, it absolutely is a crime, and the investigation into it is serious and important. -
Some smaller carriers own their own piece of the network (MTS and Sasktel for instance). The big guys rent from them.

There's no credible evidence of any of that. -
I didn't even know about that one (it's better than I thought), I was referring to this: http://www.forbes.com/sites/susanadams/2013/06/27/the-worlds-most-reputable-countries-2013/
